Oh Yea ! THAT is the sound or a REAL siren. Made the hair stand up on my neck ! The way they can prolong that wailing and make it get more and more intense.... it feels like someone is yelling GET OUT OF THE WAY RIGHT NOW !!! Vintage stuff. So cool.
It's a PA15A, not a PA15. The PA15 has the 'alert' tone. This particular unit plays at a lower pitch than the typical PA15A series 1E. The PA15A 1E is normally a high-pitched siren, but this one likely lost its high pitch due to normal wear and tear. But I don't mind the sound. I like sirens with lower pitched tones.
You just can't beat the old directors. I had one on an ambulance that had the old alert tone, and it was loud. Some friends in Amarillo who had an ambulance service had one on a van that was powered by 3 CP100 speakers. You could hear it!
Yeah, I drove that rig Tram Corp Titan II.Metropolitan Ambulance. We had 2 of them, one a GMC chassis and one Chevy. We mostly ran Directors and Interceptors, but we had a Cadillac with a B&M Super Chief and one of the vans had a sweet Q2
what year of a car might this be used on? the yelp sounds similar in speed to the dirty mary, crazy lary cop car sirens... which is the sound im looking for,

love the way the wail starts
me too, I love the drop tone!!
That takes me back...."one-eleven, Fremont; ten-eight one-seven-zero."
"ten-four, one-eleven, KJF-232".
@nmtoc
It might also be a 1D, which would explain the lower pitch...

I have three PA-15A's. I only have one currently, but it WORKS PERFECTLY! I actually just uploaded a video of it.
From 0:24 it basically sounds like a Zura PS-100R siren
