  • A quick review of some Daron MTA / New York City Subway toys. This isn't a paid or sponsored promotion, they're just something I picked up at an auction and wanted to try out.
    Spoilers below!
    The result: Total junk! These trains are cheaply made and extremely flimsy, with easy-to-break track connectors and train couplers. The tracks have little ridges or cogs for some reason, which looks stupid and makes more noise. The two engines I got had one with broken wheels and one with broken sound. They're a low quality novelty toy that would last the average kid about 10 minutes before breaking.
    These are definitely not worth money, if I found some in the trash I'd take the train cars for spare parts, but I'd put the track back in the trash.
    That being said, I was able to make one working train out of two sets, and they'll work with my existing '90s Christmas tree trains, so I can just use that track instead! These might show up in a future video as decor in our underground speakeasy cave, the Sand Bar.

    The ridges on the rails are for added traction for the single-powered axle with the rubber tires.

    Thank you for your review!! I was just about to purchase a set from QVC for $37.99!!!! For some reason it didn't have a video like thru normally do, so I jumped on you tube to see if anyone reviewed it. So glad you did!! Thanks!!

    These cheap plastic breaks after christmas day toy trains are what inspired the President's Choice Insider's Express line of model train sets that lasted for years in Canada

    • @SMTMainline
      @SMTMainline Před rokem +2

      Those President's Choice sets (Mehano IHC) where arguably the best budget train sets ever made, the rolling stock and track might have been cheap but the locomotives were high-end for the money and I rarely see them break despite not having been made in over 15 years.

      @MooseA054, I one met a lady who bought one of these sets you mentioned ; she said that she way buying it for her _husband_ who wanted a train set. I told her about the Bachman Acela set, but then I remembered how much the Bachman Acela HO scale set cost ($500.00 CDN) and I realized that she'd never buy him a set for that amount of money as a Christmas gift.
      There needs to be-for children and adults-safe electric HO scale train sets that won't cost $200.00-$500 dollars made by some manufacturer, somewhere (or at least a radio-controlled train set run on batteries that both children and adults can use that's also not so expensive.)

      I've been buying old sets on eBay that use the same track size. You'd probably be better off with something standard like G-scale vs these weird off-brands that aren't matched to any particular scale.

    Are the train cars smooth and flat on the sides with the doors and windows being mere decals? It's hard to tell from the video.

      Anything from New Bright labeled "HO gauge" should work. Dickensville Express, Wintersville Express, etc. They're not made anymore but they're at thrift stores and garage sales or sometimes eBay. They're not really HO, just a 90's imported knock-off that's closer to S gauge. Seems someone in the overseas toy train factory latched onto this size and started using it for everything 😂

      The closest thing seems to be "S scale", if you can find track that size, it might work.

    If you do what I think you will do with this train at the sand bar then it’s going to be cool. If you make underground tunnels for the train at sand land you should try to put a GoPro on its. You should also check out a CZcamsr called half asleep Chris, it should give you some inspiration.

      The closest I've been able to guess is "S Scale" (1:64), but there are a bunch of cheap imported playsets like this which don't conform to any real standard. Nothing else is really S scale except Matchbox / Hotwheels cars.

      Those Dickensville trains are way better IMHO, the track is more realistic and the quality is a little better. You can find them on eBay but they're usually more expensive there. I'd try local thrift stores or Craigslist and see if you can get them cheaper.

    I purchased one

  • @TheAmazingEddySarr_train

    at least the trains are good

  • @WesternOhioInterurbanHistory

    I've always noticed that battery powered trains with the plastic black tracks were always terrible. I've had atleast five of them over the years. They would usually be like this:
    -Loud unrealistic sound chip
    -Red light
    -Derails all the time
    -Unrealistic looking
    -Track breaks too easily
    The only battery powered trains that are actually good in my opinion are the Geotrax ones, Lionel Great Railway Adventures, Tomy Playrail, and Powertrains. These have mostly been discontinued. At this point the only good toy trains are wooden ones and model trains.

    What prop are you running. Do some math. Make sure your motor is not too deep in the water. The cavitation plate just above the prop should be even with the bottom of the boat. If you have a long shaft motor on a short shaft transom, you won’t go anywhere. Use good gas. Use recreation gas, no alcohol. Most premium fuel is sans alcohol. Check your points and timing under the flywheel.

    • @saveitforparts
      @saveitforparts  Před rokem

      I assume this is a comment for one of the boat videos, maybe the tri-hull? I've gotten rid of that one, never got the thing to run even after checking all that stuff. I think the new owner replaced the motor right away.
