Ambient performance with Ableton Push 3 (Pigments, Bioscape)

- This ambient performance was recorded with a simple FM patch in Arturia Pigments. I used the MPE mode of Push3 to play it dynamically while the aftertouch controlled the FM depth of the patch. Horizontal slide controls the pitch but unfortunately I could not figure out how to assign vertical slide to any parameter in Pigments. Please let me know if you have an idea!

Damn, I nearly got a push 2, but this is much better.
Good stuff as usual 👍 Probably you already know the solution how to use the vertical slide. In case you did not - if you enable MPE in Pigments, M1 (Macro 1) becomes the vertical parameter instead of the Macro-Function. Works fine here.

Got my Push 3 today. It's a great controller: Great haptics, great craftsmanship and beautiful, too. But ... I can reach all functions in Ableton Live through shortcuts, the monitor screen gives me a much better overview than the small one on Push and sound files are faster to reach with the mouse, because I don't have to scroll through Sounds I don't need. Okay, the pad are really gorgeous. But not all instruments can be played with the MPE function. This is disappointing because for me this feature alone makes the Push 3 "a must have".
Of cause for live performances on stage, I would recommand the Push 3 without any doubt. But for making music or playing music at home my Launchpad und my Launch Control XL are quite satisfactory. For chords I can use a hardware synth like the Summit.
I'm not quite sure to keep the Push 3, but I probably will return the controller.

The MPE pads are really really good, I am surprised. I was using the Haken Continuum Mini a while ago but Push3 feels much better and has of course a seamless integration into Ableton.
@@MartinStuertzer we’re you using pigments in stand alone or w/Computer? I heard only Ableton plug ins can be used.
@@MartinStuertzer : Yes, it does look very nice and fluent... I had a Roli Seaboard but couldn't get used to its surface, unfortunately. Btw, considering the parameter control: maybe it's because Live wants you to ' confugure ' that parameter first in Live? I had the same problem when I wanted to get stepic to control the filter of a vsti.

Sounds beautiful @Martin. As a matter of interest is that a patch you created in Pigments? I'm still trying to get to grips with it. Fabulous use of the Push for ambient though - I never really imagined it could be played like this!
So, a few months after I get the mk2 they bring out the mk3 oh well, not that I am able to get one at the moment anyway so will enjoy your playing and demonstration of the incredible versatility of the Push 3. Nice one.

Very similar sound to Hybrid by Michael Brook. If you haven’t the album I would strongly recommend it. This is the reason I’m getting a Push 3 again. I had one but there was an issue with errant pad triggering.

But, referring to Push 3:
The Push will only be a stand-alone device if it can handle plug-ins. And if it will be fully compatible with M4L. Push 3 is currently like a green banana.

thanks for this.. i wish you could load VST's in to PUSH 3 . i think MUSE RECEPTOR was running linux also so there may be hope for VST support in future upgrades

Sounds great ! Are the pads on push 3 better than push 2? Are they velocity sensitive?
I tested the Slide with KB-1 on my iPhone as Ableton didn't send me a P3 :-) - The Slide parameter is mapped in Pigments to CC74 and/or Macro 1 where I can assign it to the parameters needed.

So far yes! My Push2 was eight years old and fell apart. If I had a new one I am not sure it it was worth the upgrade.

Hi martin, today from scratch leraning, which daw would you choose between Ableton and Bitwig ( the dual clip/linear seq seems fantastic, and the GUI is way less depressing )?
And because you choose ableton ( lol ) do you think the Push 3 controller worth to choose ableton on its own?
I am not sure I can answer that. I use Ableton since 2006 and I am so used to the workflow that other DAWs can't compete. But I am sure that Bitwig is equally good as Ableton. The integration of Push with Ableton is certainly very well made.
What you feel compared to push 2 and which version did you get of the 3 ?
My Push2 would only react to a hammer as input while the pads of the Push3 are very responsive. It is much heavier and a bit higher. Display looks exactly the same. I got the version without the built in computer.

Ask me again in two years but from my first impression I would say no. The material of Push2 was a nightmare, mine is almost impossible to touch anymore due to that abysmal glue.

I’ve ordered one of these, no brainer for Ableton and my mk1 was sticky as hell
I only have Push2 and the pads would not react to anything less than a hammer. Push3 however is very responsive. I hope that i stays this way, the build quality of Push2 was a terrible.
@@MartinStuertzer Strange, my Push2 is crazy sensitive... try a MPC those are really unresponsive :)

I was indeed a bit afraid when I left the house earlier because the new pads are very sensitive. I hope that there is going to be a decksaver soon, the one from the Push2 does not fit.

hab meinen heute bekommen ... bin schon fleissig am bauen. die paar jahre (10!!!!) warten haben sich jedenfalls gelohnt ^^ wenn ich das miniklinke midi mal mega uncool finde ...
...zumal die Push3 deutlich dicker ist als die 2. Ich nutze das aber eh nicht weil meine Sachen weiterhin über das Motu Midi Express laufen werden.

Ich hab extern bloß den op1 Field und die TR8s. Wenn das läuft passt alles 🤟🏾
I love this new device, all pads are tactile sensitive. But unfortunately, this is out of my pocket :( $1,999 USD is very expensive.
That is true! I ordered the "small" version without the standalone function. I don't see the point since it does not support third party plugins and I am with a computer in my studio anyway.
