- Michel Legrand was only 22 when he created this best-selling album, utilizing fifteen Paris-themed melodies. The songs are engagingly woven together such that one blends into the next, sort of a sonic 'lap dissolve'. Thus each side comprises a suite, easily listenable as a whole. Released in 1954, this album went on to sell over 8 million copies. It was one of the monthly offerings of the early Columbia Record Club--(that's how I got my first copy, long since worn out).

(Note: please pardon the low level 'bumps' over the first 28 seconds or so--a localized warp in the record is the culprit). - Hudba
My Mam played this to me when I was about 4 years old (1966). It didn't do much for me at the time but I love it now. BTW, for years I thought the guy on the cover was Michel Legrand.
Gracias mil!
Michel was making honor to his name Legrand, one of the greatest musicians in the world, Grand, great, grande. I got this record when it came for sale, none other grande like him.
My Dad had this album. I used to listen to it it my teens. It is beautiful music beyond compare.
Many great memories along all these years. Voila Michel.
I was an American jazz, blues musician and I found this music on an LP when I was just starting in the "business.' I am now a "classical" music musician. I once played a "society" function where M. le Grand performed and WAS IGNORED! I am an American musician. I am not "French" and I find this music to be (I can't find the word) it reaches into my heart and soul.
Thank you for visiting, and sharing your story, Doug! Captivating music indeed. (I think the phrase you may be looking for is 'Je ne sait quoi', meaning 'I don't quite know'...)
Best Regards,
David
Je ne sais quoi.
@@UnclaimedFr8 "je ne sais quoi" means "i don't know what"
I bought this on a whim for $2, at a used record store a few years ago. Lovely music.
(Trans.: "This melody will not die while a person who loves music lives".)
You're so right, Sir! Timeless stuff. Thank you for visiting, and commenting!

J’adore!
I bought a copy of this around 1960. I had just purchased a stereo system and this was one of the first albums that hooked me on it... this and a Melachrino Strings album called 'Renedevouz in Roma'
No doubt you owned lots of great vacuum tube equipment and giant speakers. My dad was bitten by the hi-fi bug in the late '50s, and so, growing up in the '60s-70s I had the benefit of hearing all of this "beautiful music" as well as big bands and jazz via Dynaco tube separates and big JBL D-130's.
Cesar Ferreyros (Trans.: I didn't know what I was missing, Michel Legrand only known by the subject: The Summer Knows, (Summer of 42) for me one of the best achieved musical themes in film music, thus also the beautiful I Will Wait For you (the umbrellas of Cherbourg). But listen to these beautiful melodies inspired by Paris, definitely make it to reaffirm my taste for the music of this great master, and remained as one of my favorites.Thank you for giving us such good music: UnclaimedFR8.)
It's my great pleasure, Cesar! Such timeless, classic music indeed. And Legrand's arrangement and orchestration here are just--magic. Thank you for visiting, and commenting!

You've summed it up well, Carlos! It's just a wonderful album, and I'm glad that you've enjoyed this. Thank you for visiting, and commenting!

David

Welcome, Carlos, I'm glad that you found this. Thank you for commenting!
Love this album. If you wanna save your ears from the dreaded 1950s Columbia resonant peak, knock off a bit around 8KHz with your equalizer.
Glad you like it, Chuck--thanks for stopping by!
Best Regards,
David
this is the soundtrack to a movie in my head... starring BB and Jeanne Moreau. ooh lala!
Viva Maria! by Louis Malle, 1965. Thanks for visiting!

wonderful--
magnificent!
A lot of people say y it sounds like Muzak.I don't care, though; I loved it since I was 9 or10.my pop bought the album many years before I was born.
steve j i like your picture of Baron von Raschke. I saw him many times in San Antonio, Tx many years ago when I was a kid. He teamed up with Dirty Dusty Rhoads. I would give anything to see him wrestle again.
Nice catch, Steve! Good stuff, this--thanks for visiting.
Best Regards,
David
Can one get the original music as played by Legrand orchestra?
All of these songs become very important cultural heritage of France nowadays.
A poignant statement indeed, in today's world. Thank you for commenting!
Best Regards,
David
really ? as a parisian born and bred myself, I see this as pure tourist pap, for export purposes only
Pas de son entre les 6' 57" et les 9' 57". De toute façon, merci pour le partage. No sound between 6'57" and 9'57"
Indeed, Adriano, the song 'Autumn Leaves' was silenced, due to copyright claim. I addressed this in the description. Here is a link to my new upload of the entire album, minus 'Autumn Leaves': czcams.com/video/1n0eMXPcB-I/video.html
