      @Rodger Hodgson no the problem is using those terms as if they identify a person into a stereotype. Which news sources on both political parties shove down your throat and you believe. That's why all people should be neutral and not claim to be part of a party, and just vote for the candidate that best represents what they want from government. The fact is neither side gives accurate non bias facts when it comes to news, if they even give the actual story. Most news programs are talk shows with actual news on a continuous line at the bottom of the screen and all you get is a headline no story no facts nothing. Because the government as a whole(not party) wants the public to be uneducated to what is actually going on or the fact that its run by the 1% for the 1%. Both sides work for the corporations on a global scale and don't care how poor or how uneducated we are, all while giving us bullshit stories to distract us.

      There are more people like Katie Porter all throughout the US. They just need the right push to run or a little bit of volunteering hours if they do run. That's the secret that our political process tries to hide. If you want to find more Katie Porters, look at the Justice Democrats and Brand New Congress.

    521% for the APR calculation (I think). Hugely more than the advertised interest rate of 10% and you'd have to be very savvy to pick it up as a customer. This is not uncommon for short term loans that are annualised though. In Australia, we previously has caps on APR's of 48% for small and medium loans. Now we have a 20% start up fee plus 4% ongoing free as the typical limit.
    I'm always stunned at high up people who can't do the basic calcs or even articulate the concepts. Wonderful style of questioning emphasising the gross lack on understanding to not be able to ball park the answer

    • @edme8865
      @edme8865 Před rokem

      Wow at the cap of 48%. Due to the nature of the exponential formulas and their impact upon the economy, especially in terms of devaluing money, that is a high cap. The 4%, with a 20% start up, is way more reasonable, as it provides needed flexibility for policy change to maintain some stability in the economy, given the time gaps of a year just from the APR.

    • @edme8865
      @edme8865 Před rokem +1

      @Mark Johnson Quite the opposite. I understand the 'free' money causes additional complications, such as contributing to the current inflation spike, which as you correct state actually makes you poorer. It also contributed to the sub-prime housing market collapse in the 2000s, and even the S&L failures of the 1980s. However, when people, like Democrats, get major stuff incorrect, they can still get some stuff correct. And in this video Rep. Porter got stuff correct. Hopefully the point is clear that we all need the correct stuff without the incorrect stuff.

    • @edme8865
      @edme8865 Před rokem +1

      @Mark Johnson I am glad you also understand the point of voting yes on a lot of wrong and very little correct stuff. For many people have difficulty understanding, as the real world situation is rather complex and multifaceted. However the step past that needs to be be getting correct stuff without the incorrect, instead of leaving it at 'enjoy the big fat mess'. I empathize that shifting to getting correct stuff is a daunting undertaking, however it is needed.

    • @edme8865
      @edme8865 Před rokem

      @Mark Johnson Do you really want to harm others by denying them the resources they need to produce refined/additional resources that would benefit you? Because 'I WANT MY MONEY' looks at only 1/3 the picture by holding resources, instead of transferring resources to where they need to go to result in more refined/additional resources being produced that are needed to increase benefits for everyone.

    It drives me nuts how they can just avoid questions. I'm wondering if you know, like Perry Mason moves would have helped, maybe by starting off by asking her if she knows how to do TVM calculations. No, does she know how to figure out an APR. Something, make her paint herself into a corner.
