"It's All Worthwhile Because Our Cause Is Just." - The Pacific (2010) #shorts #thepacific #movie
The Pacific is a 2010 American war drama miniseries produced by HBO, Playtone, and DreamWorks that premiered in the United States on March 14, 2010.
The series is a companion piece to the 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers and focuses on the United States Marine Corps's actions in the Pacific Theater of Operations within the wider Pacific War. Whereas Band of Brothers followed the men of Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment through the European Theater, The Pacific centers on the experiences of three Marines (Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge, and John Basilone) who were in different regiments (1st, 5th, and 7th, respectively) of the 1st Marine Division.

Ack Ack briefed the 5th Marines just before they went onto the LVTs heading for Peleliu. Whilst the marines were fighting, Sledge had to exercise great effort to get off the beach. He froze at one time, but then Ack Ack came by and got Sledge on his feet. Ack Ack then put Sgt. Elmo "Gunny" Haney in charge of the squad while he tries to find the others. Soon, Ack Ack returns and the Marines move on towards the airfield.
Ack Ack is later seen leading the other Marines through the airfield where Sledge witnesses the death of fellow replacement, Pfc. Robert Oswalt. Ack Ack is later seen leading Sledge and other motarmen in the squad to clear out a partially destroyed building. That night, Sledge confides his fear to Ack Ack in a heartfelt talk with the Skipper, who tells him that every day, he tries to think of a good cause for the war that they were currently fighting, before he leaves. Thank you for these videos and all this information!! The one thing that jumps out to me the most is.. Gunney Haney's first name is ELMO??? Incredible. He was one of my favorite characters, literally the "old breed" referred to by Sledgehammer's book title.
Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt) Haney.

Courage is being scared to death but still doing the damn thing.
Japan wanted to conquer the entire Indo-Pacific region. Folks can say Americans shouldn't have helped stop this if they want, but this Aussie appreciates it.
The communists won WW2.
So do the South Koreans.
I haven’t met many folk that have said that, do you know why they do? Besides the nukes
@@kaliviniski1114 some folks bought into Japans propaganda of going across Asia to “end European colonialism”, but the thing is, everywhere they went wasn’t “given to the locals”, it was the same imperial management, just a different flag, and sometimes worse than previous management like in the Philippines.
@@kaliviniski1114the Japanese aren’t mad about it either the only people who get mad about the use of nukes were the revisionist historians from the U.S.A and the other country’s that are mad about the bombings no reasonable person would send millions to die in a long bloodier war then the one that just finished in Europe the bombings only killed thousands which is still very bad but more civilians and soldiers would have died in the fight for main land Japan then the total people killed by Hiroshima and Nagasaki which the Tokyo fire bombs did way more damage and killing than the nukes
It's a damn shame that they lose both their XO and CO within days. Seeing the men break down just tears me apart every time.

So demoralizing losing your leader and also second in command back to back within a day or 2

Exactly. Dont know how these men got through it.
Thankful that they did because my gramps was in all of this.
There’s some sad and disgusting people in these comments, unfortunately.
I’m not sure people understand that this was World War 2. The allies fought against the axis powers. Which consisted of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan (and others).
Both of which were cruel and evil. It was a justified war.
Remember, half the population is below average.
Yeah, because America, Britain, Russia and China were never cruel to or invaded anyone before or since WW2 😂
This Holyier then thou BS is so played out I can't believe people still say it with a straight face.
The "Good Guys" were just serving their own interests, (as always) and have all committed horrific atrocities over a much longer time period than Germany or Japan.
Remember that our own history followed back far enough is equally cruel and vicious. We didn't gain the West by being just. We gained it by merciless conquest. We didn't silence the Philippino revolution by being just. Its easier to claim the high ground it's how empires have justified barbarism for thousands of years and the US is indeed an empire. Let's talk about our allies as well. The British and French? Their crimes of the past make Hitler and Tojo look like choir boys. Its ok to acknowledge the heroism of the past, but stop lying to yourself to make yourself feel better. The winner writes the books and you dont win wars by being honest and fair..
Japanese empire and Nazi Germany had to be stopped.
And we haven't had a just war since.
I would argue the Korean War. If you ever look at the contrast between North and South Korea and think of how many more people would have suffered had we not fought, I would say it was just.
And even though when I was deployed to Iraq there were many Iraqis who thanked us for being there, that would be a tough one to argue.
I would also say that had it not been for the politicians in the wars following WWII, things would have been very different.

@movieinsightreal really like what you’re doing with the pacific and band of brothers, don’t think that there were many short form clips of them from before
They did have a just cause. Could you imagine if the axis powers won and took control of history?
Every man would wrestle with their faith in their cause when seeing what these men saw
Humans would be just subjects to its country and easily spendable. If the axis would have won it would have not looked good first for everyone who is not "arian". Afterwards the people living around the entire planet would be germans and theire lifes worth nothing. We now have rights but also to many and some of the to many are for example evil organisations like lgbtq wich force people to live theire way. For me a Christian, i know this Organisation is satanic and has to be stopped also because they destroy our rights wich these ww2 soldiers fought for
Yeah. Europe would be speaking German instead of Arabic.

WW2 is just compared to WW1
As a Christian i believe things happen for a reason
The men that died may not be heroes but they sure didn't die for nothing
Only the actual reality is that they did die for nothing, and there wasn’t a grand purpose laid out for them. And Christianity is evidently nothing more than a man-made fable, like all of the other mythologies that came before it. But to each their own, I guess.
WWII was probably the last time the US did anything just
Just because....
Does that include firebombing hundreds of thousands of civilians to death?

Pelelua seems like a nightmare
Did we really need to sacrifice our boys for that island though?
At least people are bringing it to light these days and it's not as pushed aside as it was so people understand the sacrifice they made for each other
"Our cause is just."
Now we only fight for each other. our just cause.
They wanted to recreate the blyth - spiers scene so bad but this one doesnt hit the same
In my opinion it does, in the context of the chaos and carnage which we see when they cross the airstrip, the scene hits harder because you see more human loss. But without the context the rest of the episode then i agree with you
At least they have 3000 miles, 3 major island battles and thousands of casualties to say that unlike the men of E Company who was in battle at Normandy for the first time.
Nope, this was actually in the memoir of E.B. Sledge.
@@migueldelacruz5054 im not saying it didnt happen. im saying the way the shot is set up, the lighting and the topic of conversation is similar to the blyth speech in the original BoB. I think by themselves, the original is done better, and i wish they did it in a more original way but thats my opinion. The show and book are good all-around regardless.
This reminds me nothing of that blithe/spiers scene. It was its own thing and the message it’s sending within itself was executed just fine. I swear all these band of brother dick riders will pick apart the pacific in every which way possible. Your problem is that you comparing it to band of brothers. Band of brothers is about camaraderie and brotherhood of the unit and honestly it glorifies war in a way, pacific on the other hand is about the gritty, brutality and toll it takes on man who endured combat. As you see nobody wins in the end, they either are in the ground or go back home broken and unhappy in one way or another. That’s the reason why I like the pacific more just a little more, it doesn’t glorify it. None the less both are phenomenal series that just simply send different messages.
The vast majority of soldiers that ever fought in history believed that their cause was just in some way, at least at the beginning. Sadly an even bigger majority within that majority, were wrong and being manipulated.
The pacific theater was a just cause for the allies, I get what your saying but ww2 was just a different war all together.
WHY DEY DO DIS!?!?
Everyone believes their cause is just.
Well given that we the Allies actively tried to help people and didn't exterminate our fellow man on an industrial scale, I'd say we can make an exception for the western powers.
True, but are you saying World War II was not a just war?
But that doesn’t answer the question. is it?
@@lllllliiillllll youre so close to getting it.
