This is a wonderful coincidence as I come home to this: I spent most of today explaining the exact same concept to my students (along with the highly behavioural altering principle of FOMO) as, like Liv, I used to 'work' in the gambling industry; worked with 1000s of professional poker players & specifically worked in the addiction/ harm sector. TikTok's slot machine likeness doesn't just stop at the Dopamine hits; the UI, graphic motif & design aesthetic all mirror those of well know slots operators like PlayTech & Evolution
TikTok is bad for so many reasons but it is what bad videos these naive audiences pay attention to rather than the audiences themselves. If you had any critical thinking skills , you would know why you should not blindly accept the assertion made by a total stranger ( even if they were mildly entertaining in a video you glanced at ).
You compared “using TikTok” (consuming) with posting videos; while it’s a subtle distinction, it’s a little disingenuous if your goal is to communicate. If your goal is to create the kind of engagement that you’re warning people about though, it’s a great strategy.
While I appreciate the message, I'm also immediately suspicious of any argument involving 'think of the children'. A desire for connection and appreciation seems fairly positive, it's just business incentives that pervert that goal - and bytedance is hardly the only company that abuses those natural human impulses
It's not a slot machine it's a social media application. You don't lose or win money based on outcome. It has completely different surface area. Bad metaphor bordering on propaganda.
It's actually a very good likeness & the true harm can't just be measured by Win/Loss in results: attention drain, emotional maelstrom, damage to posture....

Wow. Thanks for sharing that
That explains why one of my last videos got a ton of hits for no reason... Tell you what TikTok you keep the fame, I'll keep the money 🙄
Those babies scrolling tiktok, oooof
That's why I'm not on tiktok!
TikTok is 3X more powerful than a slot machine. Only 1 spinning reel.
Neurobiological exploits and attention engineering, yay. 🎉
nailed it
i think this point might hit a lot harder if it wasn't posted on CZcams's own version of tiktok...
So if I just keep making new accounts, I'll get this little boost on all of them? Asking for a friend.
Great video 👍
What about CZcams Shorts?
Bro these youtube short are just TikTok.
and what about Instagram and Facebook
Yes, but should it be illegal?

Re-post.Why, i dont like tiktok. It's like clock, on a time bomb. It will implode and hit à super jackpot.
