The best Alfredo I've heard. What a gorgeous melodic voice Jonas Kaufmann has and those strong baritone-ish tones give this wonderful tenor a quality not heard since the days of Correlli and Windgassen from what I can tell. He's glorious in this. No wonder he got such a standing ovation at the MET. The only thing I can't work out is why they have never released this wonderful performance onto a DVD. 😢❤

This was the performance that made the world discover Kaufman. He writes about it in his book. The audience went nuts. I am distressed by some of the nasty and inappropriate things some write here. Kaufman has been praised by knowledgeable critics as unsurpassed. Yes, he is a baritonal tenor. I love the depth it gives to his splendid voice.
Too bad the sound of this video is not good enough. Obviously made by a spectator without the right equipment. Plus the click of the zoom which is annoying.

@@Come-Dians She does not sing any high notes - of course the audience expects those to be sung according to the notes and script of the opera - composed by the author - Missing those high notes means that the singer is not able to satisfy the demands of the opera - so they should not sing it - period!!!

About wich other missed high notes you are talking???? She is certainly one of the best Violettas ever heard! Her debut in Covent Garden with Traviata in 1994 made her star, there is nothing to say about that if you want to be honest and know something about singing!
@@Vayou2023 he is dramatic tenor, but more dramatic than Domingo for example...But like all the tenors, Kaufmann began as lyric because it is healthy for the voice not to be a dramatic singer from the beggining...
