Great singing, but I don't like this production. It's weird and distracting.
I couldn't agree with you more. Yet, it's extremely challenging to find opera videos featuring great singing and production quality that are not blocked or subject to strikes on my channel. FYI, yesterday, I received a strike on my Maria Callas Gala video. Fearing additional strikes (as CZcams removes a channel after three strikes), I decided to delete two recent productions: 'Lucia di Lammermoor' and 'Rigoletto,' both performed in 2022.

Fabulous! Especially Jonas' and Anja' performances were moving and powerful, the roles are difficult and demanding.
All the cast is very good.
Unfortunately the staging is questionable, cluttered with useless symbols and complicated set elements, that often diminish the visibility of the performers.

Was that even him singing the last notes? Looked like he was mouthing and didn’t sound like his B5s.
I don’t like the staging as well, but the opera is so good… worth to close your eyes and listen through more than two hours.
That I did... Appreciate just the voices...Visually it hurts.
The only thing I can think of is comical and absurd.

_The tenor in the opera was terrible. He was booed mercilessly. Someone in the audience called out, over and over :: Bravo ! Bravo ! for this poor tenor. The audience turned on the man praising the tenor. The man defended his position and said ::_
_No ! No ! He sings it until he gets It Right !_

@@salvoferraro6976 he is a tenor, not baritone - the Russian baritone is OK - not as bad as the others.. The soprano is pretty bad too...

Kaufmann and Harteros together......great pairing. Not so keen on the baritone.......there's a production of FORZA DEL DESTINO where they are joined by Ludovic Tezier as Don Carlos di Vargas......now that is really something. I am still coming to terms with the production......I don't really get it. (But I like the fact that she looks like Jane Morris in the paintings by Rossetti! Was that intentional, I wonder!)
Thank you so much for posting as always. love the music but hates this production. I usually like to watch and listen to enjoy the opera. With this one, i can only listen even when i tried to have an open mind. It is just too much. Not sure if it is only me and i do not want to be too judgmental but I found European productions especially German like to experiment with contemporary or futuristic setting with a lot of disruption on tthe stage

I don’t know where to begin…yes the singers are fine..but this production!!! Singers outrageously upstaged by dancers, sets and nonsensical pantomime! Where oh where are opera directors who respect the works they are supposed to be directing? I have been attending opera for more than 65 years and am watching the art decline into burlesque!
How right you are. I don't mind some newer productions when they either explain a different view of a work or meet the spirit of the composer.
Germany is a big dilemna. What is it with German producer that they NEED to destroy a work and show it under its worst vulgarity.
Chéreau changed the world of opera in 1976 (The Bayreuth Ring) but did it with respect, finesse and elegance. The last two just don't figure in German visual arts or architecture. Always heavy, tacky, grotesque. (Compare Versailles and any dreadful royal palaces in Germany to see my point).
I figure that the 'destruction' of Wagner is a form of atonement for his antisemitism. Perhaps, who knows...
I am so over the 'set designers' rubbish and tosh. To me Opera is music and voice. That's it.

Den Ansatz von Claus Guth : Turandot als traumatisierte Frau zu sehen, das ist akzeptabel....Schlimmer aber sind die Sänger....bei Asmik Grigorian bin ich unentschieden, halte sie aber insgesamt ungeeignet für die Turandot, d h ihre vokalen Mittel nicht rexgt angemessen . Jonas Kaufmann, dazu muss ich nichts sagen oder ich frage mal : was benötigt der Tenor für den Calaf unbedingt? Die Tophöhe wird man antworten, richtig und damit ist alles gesagt . Lieber Herr Kaufmann: Ihre verdiente Weltkarriere verfolge ich (live) seit Jahren (Soloabende in Mörbisch, Wien, Bacchus in Szbg, und in letzter Zeit Radames, Otello, Calaf in Wien und jetzt auf CZcams diesen Manrico ). Sie stemmen auch, dank Ihres superben Könnens, die erwähnten italienischen Partien. Klar, dass Sie stimmlich kein del Monaco oder Corelli sind, aber Ihre Rollengestaltung übertrifft beide bei Weitem. Was mich bedrückt: Wie bei ihrem Kollegen Florez vermisse ich die Leuchtkraft der Spitzentöne und die strahlende Höhe bei "Freunde, das Leben ist lebenswert" die von Mörbisch bis Ungarn schallte. Schade. Ob die angeführten Partien dies verursacht haben, kann ich nicht beurteilen.

Just popped up on my youtube feed, so yes, I’m watching! Well listening… So sad for the distractions on stage. Im making a list of these ‘directors’ so I can avoid their shows in the future. I travel thousands of miles from CA to see opera, I’d be p-od for this crap. Sadly, the woke and ‘inclusives’ are ruining the greatest art form. The GDs like Gelb and Shilvok should be canned!
Same here. I travel thousands of miles from CA since we no longer have good operas both singers and production. Please do share your list once compiled. People complain about too many David McVicar's production but at least i can trust his productions, not an experimental art form. I think Gelb should be gone long time ago.

Kaufmann has been a pretentious singer. He followed the footsteps of Domingo. Opera is not a Jack of all trades. one of the most embarrassing cast and production.
