    Many bodybuilders know they need to have "good nutrition" to build a great physique but they are not quite sure where to start as nutrition seems complicated and mysterious -- its not! Bodybuilding nutrition is really quite simple if you use a top-down approach. A lot of the confusion people have is that they hear "you should do this" and "you should do that" only to find that all the advice seems to conflict and doesn't seem to fit into a bigger picture. here I'm going to give you the bigger picture so YOU can put together your OWN nutritional plan to meet your goals.
    A bodybuilders nutritional plan is very similar to a personal financial budget. Both are about making difficult choices and then sticking to the budget -- in both cases, disaster strikes if you blow the budget. If you blow your financial budget, you end up over your head in 21% credit card debt. If you blow your nutritional budget you end up fat or weak.
    In a financial plan you start with your income and then subtract out the nonnegotiable expenses like taxes and rent to find out how much spending money we have. For our nutritional plan we start with amount of calories we can eat per day, then subtract out the things we need for lean muscle growth then see how many cheat foods we can have. Lets look at how easy the top down approach to bodybuilding nutritional planning is.

    @masterpiecebeta I try to speak slowly and clearly because I know a lot of my viewers speak English as a second language. Talking fast, mumbling, and using lots of non standard slang makes it very difficult to jnderstand. I spent 2 years in Germany so I learned to really appreciate those who spoke clearly.

    Thank you for this video! I have started working out, and I have been stressing badly over my diet for muscle gains. I am a numbers guy, so I took your approach. After breaking down everything I eat this way, I saw I could meet my Macro goals with only a little tweaking of my current meals.

    Thank you Scoob! I've been a "fan"\"follower" and I have enjoyed your videos consistently for more than a year. They keep me motivated and keep me trying harder. I'll admit that hard times can and do push me off track, but I'm always coming back and the information you're bringing forward is both accurate (I'm a doctor) and convincing. This was a great video.

    @Athrun000 It appears that unfortunately you didnt watch this video or you would know that nothing here talks about meal frequency or number of meals. This video is purely about deciding how to do a daily nutritional budget. It also appears that you missed the fact that I do mention egg consumption in this sample meal plan. Its fine as long as its not more than 5% of your calories.

    Sorry, I did misunderstand. Yes, I completely agree. Applications like "Lose It!" and myfnesspal are awesome at tracking the nutrition of what you eat. You can set your targets like I show in this video and let the application do all the dreary math. Lose It even has a barcode scanner so that you can scan food and find it in their database.

    Hey man. This is a great video ! I've been watching you for a while and you know your stuff.
    Dieting is something that's extremely underrated by the people training, not just in body building, but in other sports as well. I'm an amateur boxer and I didn't understood proper nutrition nor did I have the will to go through a good diet so I ended up competing at heavyweight which is not very fun, believe me. Now I diet correctly (in most part) and am glad to be back at light heavyweight.

  • @scooby1961
    @scooby1961  Před 12 lety

    I am not saying ANYTHING about how much I think you should eat. Step 2 is where YOU decide if you run a caloric deficit or surplus and how much. This is YOUR nutritional plan, not mine. The only thing I warn against (the zone in red) is that a caloric deficit of more than 20% risks burning muscle.

    Good quetsion! After you do this a week or so, you can stop because its an educational exercise. Once you see HOW, WHAT, and HOW MUCH to eat you dont need to keep doing this. After the first week of weighing, measuring, and counting you will have it down. That first week, an appliction like Lose It or myfitnesspal makes the macro counting easy.

    Thanks for taking the time to comment, but I have heard conflicting reports on alcohol's effect on muscle building/athletes and I would have to conclude from the overall evidence that alcohol has very little effect in small quantities, but you are absolutely right that drinking no alcohol at all will be much better. Still, I drank 1/3rd bottle of rum and a litre of beer on Saturday, and have seen "gains" and lost fat - I guess I could have done a LOT better without that though.

    PILLOW SCREAM! This nutritional stuff is NOT just for people who want to compete. Its for all you folks out there who CLAIM you are hardgainers with slow metabolisms to explain why you cant gain muscle or get abs. There are no SHORTCUTS. If you want to gain hard, lean muscle you gotta WORK at it.

    If it fits into your nutritional plan that you make with the method in this video then your daily 330ml bottle of beer is fine. In realistic terms that means that if you are at more than a 10% caloric deficit then you cant have it. If you are from0-10% caloric deficit you can probably have the beer as long as you are strict about almost everything else.
