      Looking at a couple TD-6 & TD-6V modules right now on Reverb for my DIY conversion project. Possibly also a TD-4? Although, I'd rather not rely on a proprietary cable snake for my build, so the TD-6 or 6V seems like the way to go for my meager budget and overall needs. I really gotta thank you once again Justin for all the helpful insight that your channel has provided me thus far. Other than my old 90's era Mapex Mars Series shell pack (22" kick & 12"/16" toms) I currently have two 13" Lemon cymbals (one triple zone & one dual), and am looking at also getting both their 15" and 18" real soon. I really can't praise the Lemon brand enough to be honest, and have actually reached out to Lemon USA just recently. I'm also considering getting one of the prebuilt Lemon 13" snares as they claim to offer "positional sensing", which I'm thinking would be very welcome upgrade from the basic dual zone snares I've owned prior?
      That investment may ultimately come well after I suss out my build, module, and cymbals tho.
      Anyhoo...
      Thanks again soo much BTW Justin!
      Seriously.
      I'll be sure to let you know how my project is coming along as soon as I get everything initially up and running!
      Stay awesome my dude!

      Update: Just got a TD-6V for $150, and also just rigged up some hi-hats using a GoEdrum controller and an old Roland CY-8. Haven’t had time to test everything out yet, but so far I have two Lemon 13” cymbals (one dual, one triple) and a used Alesis 14” triple zone (one input). Looking to start testing everything with my Alesis mesh kit before I begin parting it out and selling it to make room for my A2E conversion. My Focusrite 18i8 has MIDI I/O so I can use EZDrummer as well as the TD-6V onboard sounds. Honestly? I think I made the right choice given my budget, and I can’t thank you more Justin for helping me along my journey!☺️

    Good vid! To start practicing drums at home I bought a full TD-6V rig a few years ago for only £200 (admittedly many parts where in bad condition and needed fixing or replacing). Over the years I and have found myself upgrading almost every part of the kit to make it better... except the module! I keep meaning to invest in a new module but have struggled to see the advantage and this video helps to explain why. It's a solid module, lots of great sounds and easy to use, I would also recommend it.

      I know this is way old but one huge advantage of some other modules is individual outputs atleast when playing live the foh engineer needs the ability to adjust the cymbals, toms, snare, and kick volume all separate from each other the T6 only has a left and right output sadly

      @@ironblast5 Yes, agreed, that makes sense. I love this module but only use it at home to practise and to capture MIDI (e.g. for Superior Drummer etc). I don't feel like this old piece of kit (released 2003) would be a very good choice for a current live setup.

    This is a wonderful video. I have been using the TD6V since 2003 or 2004. Twenty years!!! So, it spent some years in a box packed away. But, I was asked a few months ago to try a kick trigger to get more presence in a dance band...I said well let's try the ol TD6. The results were very pleasing blending it w my mic'd kick drum. This led to adding a snare trigger, which led to creating a hybrid kit...and I even used it to play on some records via MIDI out to ProTools and BFD samples. Now I have it hooked up in conjunction with my old pads, and live w/ the addition of an SPDS, a couple of acoustic triggers and a mic'd acoustic kit. THIS module stands the test of time. The MIDI in/out in it is priceless for some recording applications and this thing also has an internal sequencer which they STOPPED putting in their newer modules. That alone makes this a hot commodity for some applications. So anyway, cool video man, thanks for sharing!

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  Před 7 měsíci

      yeah, they really are great modules. I still use mine for live triggering acoustics as well. It works great for that. Solid triggering, good sounds especially blended with real drums. I've never actually used the MIDI sequencer, but I should. It would be cool attempt to sequence a whole original song in there and play to it live.

      I've been using a basic entry level pad/cymbal rig w/ an Alesis Trigger I/O into EZ/Superior Drummer for over a few years now and have finally decided to convert my old 90's acoustic Mapex shell pack to electric. Typically, (on entry level units especially) I've never liked any onboard module sounds ever, especially considering the price, but I must admit...
      The more I look into the TD-6? The more it seems like exactly what I've been looking for!
      I mean sure, I can still trigger Toontrack via 5-pin MIDI at home, but gigging? I'd much rather rely on something like a TD-6 that, even tho nearly over a decade old, is potentially way more stable, easier to load in, and doesn't sound awful.
      Ha!
      BTW?
      Thanks Nata!
      You've just helped be commit to my next piece of gear purchase for my conversion project!
      I initially was thinking of more full size cymbals and a prefab snare, but I think ditching this old AF Alesis Trigger I/O really makes more sense at the mo'!

    Drum module wars is one of the more annoying internet debates. My view is knowing the gear you have is way more important than having the newest, latest, best gear. With some small exceptions, if you know your way around your module, you can get it to sound like anything you want within reason. I have an Alesis strike pro module on a hybrid kit. I started watching videos about the TD27 and thought that if I got that I would somehow be a better and happier drummer. The reality is, the strike module is amazing and I I didn't give it time to learn it. Once I learned it (still learning it) I realized It is absolutely amazing and more flexible than I ever imagined. So ... know your gear, ignore internet marketing, and just play.Which means, if a TD-6 "outdated" module is working for you, then stay in that lane until you have to or want to move on!

If you have a video that goes through the calibration for your d-drum triggers that would be great if you can give me a link. Also need to know what your doing to your shells for muting the Acoustic resonant of the drum. If any? I’ve been trying to get a decent hybrid setup or a full muted just electronic version on my kit. It seems overly sensitive, resulting in "foot close" MIDI events / chicks even when putting extra pressure to keep it closed... using it with AD2 (adjusting the pedal sensitivity there didn't help so far, the only way for clean recordings is to mute all foot close events afterwards and re-enable the ones i actually need)

    Hello. I bought a Roland TD-6v, and since I'm an inexperienced drummer, I've been having some issues. I connected the TD-6v module to my computer using a MIDI-USB 2.0 cable, with headphones connected to the computer as my audio output. When recording in Cubase or Reaper, the drum sounds randomly disappear. It's not a latency issue; the sound is completely absent. I play relatively consistently, but the recorded output is a mess - half of the notes don't get recorded, cymbals are barely audible, the bass drum triggers inconsistently, and so on. If I play the drums without connecting them to the computer, everything works fine, of course. I've tried playing directly through the Superior Drummer plugin and without it, recording the clean MIDI signal and then processing it with the plugin. In both cases, the results are terrible. Please help! I have an udio interface - Behringer, but there's no MINI input, that's whI using MIDI-USB

    Hey man, I just bought a td6 used. When I power it on, all the letters are mixed up and theres no numbers. And theres no sound besides static. I was given the wrong power supply, but tried a different one that fit the specs but its still doing the same thing. Is there anything I can do besides get a new module?

    Dude! Is it possible for you to check the td7 Roland module?

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  Před 8 měsíci

      I assume you mean the TD-7 from 1993 and not the current TD-07? I had the old TD-7 in the past, but I didn't care for it. Not that the sounds were bad, but it was way too cumbersome to program. Roland hadn't quite figured it out yet on that one. The TD-5 is the first one that sort-of worked the way the modern ones work and they sound pretty similar to the TD-7.

    Do you know if td6 supports kt-10 kick pedal?

  • @IansDrumsandBass
    @IansDrumsandBass Před 9 měsíci

    I had one for years, my only complaint was that you could not eq the pads individually. My TD - 11KV you can. The TD - 6V is still very competitive to this day, in fact I'm even thinking of getting another one! I love that you can set the decay on the cymbals too, so at low volumes you can set the cymbals to ring for as long as you want - not so on the TD11. I also love the muffled toms on the TD - 6V, on the TD11 you can muffle them but it's not quite the same......? On the TD11 s factory settings, the toms all have huge amounts of ring - like acoustic toms - YUGH.

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  Před 8 měsíci

      I had a TD-11 for a while too, I regret selling that one as well, haha. I didn't like it as much as the 6, but it had a few sounds I really enjoyed.

    • @IansDrumsandBass
      @IansDrumsandBass Před 8 měsíci

      @@demonicsweaters Yeah, the cymbals are amazing and some snare sounds too on the TD 11, I won't ever sell it - (I don't think) I had a TD5 like yours too long ago,it had one set of toms that were fantastic.

    Snare drum sounds great in the mix. Pretty annoying you prefer this over the much newer 17 and 27 😢 but hey at least I can probably find one for very cheap.

  • @LDdrums20
    @LDdrums20 Před rokem

    To me the only thing that's "bad" is that it doesn't have multi layer samples. Seems to me that it's just changing the volume with different velocities.

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  Před rokem

      It actually does have multi layers, just not many. Maybe like 2 or 3 on some sounds.

    • @LDdrums20
      @LDdrums20 Před rokem

      @@demonicsweaters I do agree with you though that the td27 kind of sucks by default but you can tweak it quite well to get good sounds. Actually the convolver that it has both for the overheads and the room allows you to create a very convincing sound. It just requires work. Let's hope the 2.0 version improves upon that

    Bwahaha, I found this video because I just watched a review on the new SPD SX Pro, and found myself thinking how much better I’d expect the kits to sound than my TD-06, my first, and only drum module. Not sure if Roland is just nerfing the SPD SX Pro to avoid eating into their drum module line, but the kits sounded like cheap crap. TD64EVR
