  • The Oldest Electronic Music Gear I Own!
    Today we're looking at the oldest piece of electronic music gear I own, the Roland TD-10 drum module! While I do love my current TD-17 module, there's just something special about the old Roland drum brains. The amount of features packed into the TD-10 is truly astounding for it's time, and I can't wait to start using it more! Enjoy the video :)

    Dude, that's sick! I went to Guitar Center like every other weekend for two months around 1998? 1999? to test out the TD-10 (with the full Roland set of V-drums) and other electronic drum kits. The TD-10 was mind blowing at the time and so much better than everything else that was on display. The full Roland set was a couple grand, and as a teenager I just couldn't afford it. I had to use all my savings on a budget Yamaha DTX Express kit instead, which actually had a pretty good brain module, but those hard rubber pads weren't nearly as good as the V-drums. That TD-10 still holds up surprisingly well today. Super fun throwback video!

      I`ve got the new Roland VAD 706-kit with the digital hh, snare and bd. I actually have two of them, one for studio and one ready to go in bags for gigs:) Coupled with VST`s (toontrack sd3 and others) I can tell U right now, the td 10 doesnt hold up. Its like playing something cheap from Donner, compared to using a modern kit. So much has happened! The VAD series (506 and up) with vst`s is on a whole other planet than this td 10. To me, old kits like these are unusable in any context, other than fun for the kids:) Im a big Roland fan, but like I said: So much has happened:) Footnote: The most important happening in e-drumming world the last ten years? Rolands digital hh. It kinda got rid of the problems e-kits have had making a good, functional hh that works like a real one:)

    I have the TD10 kit (the red one). Been playing it since 2001 and, although the sounds are indeed outdated, it still works perfectly. All these years later, I still love the red rack and all the toms/cymbals that came with it. I've been looking at updating it, but so many of the kits don't have the presence that this one does. So for now, I'm still gonna rock the TD10's.

    I still use 1TD-10 with an internal Expansion Card and my TD-50 with the DDrum DDTi to allow for a massive amount of Drum Trigger pads, Roland and Pintech and Acoustic Converted to E-Drum pads. The TD-10 is a spectacular module and works incredibly well. I've used it since 1997, when it first came out. If you think about it, it's one of the best drum modules made and blows away most new modules in 2023. Thats insane! No planned obsolescence here. That you, ROLAND!! I've also sampled all the internal sounds and still use them as layered samples for drum tracks for at least 15 albums since 1997. Brilliant!!

    Great video!. I remember when it came out I was blown away. I was also impressed by a Modern Drummer's cover with Omar Hakim holding one TD10. My Best regards.

    I still use my Roland td-10 expanded daily!!!! The tones on the expanded version I'm still convinced can sound just as good as current models, just need to heavily edit every single kit

      Yeah I know the folks at Vexpressions have done some amazing stuff with the stock TD-10 sounds, however I'd also love to get my hands on an expansion card lol. Thanks for watching!

    25 years from now, someone will do a similar video with the (insert gear of today here) “I got this MPC live for 80 bucks of Tomslist when they were over $1000 new.

    I was a bit surprised you didn't have anything older lying around! My 1988 Alesis MMT-8 that I bought in 2007 is still the only sequencer I use today. Retrokits is releasing a modern successor this year, and I'm so relieved that I get to retire the poor thing.

    A TD-6V wormhole just led me here! Ha!
    i'm looking for a budget module solution for my current DIY acoustic to electric conversion I'm attempting on my old 90's era Mapex Mars 4pc shell pack.
    I mostly trigger Toontrack software currently via an old Alesis Trigger I/O, but it's overall limitations and stability issues have become somewhat of an unwanted headache as of late. I'm thinking for my budget that a TD-6V module is what I will be investing in, but I really dig your channel my dude!
    Just "liked, subscribed, and rang the bell" mi amigo!
    Thanks a million for this awesome content!
    Cheers!

    I do remember these units, they were out the same time I bought my boss Dr 770. Go on Mercari and plug in the Roland expansion card for this and turn on notifications. I’ve seen them go for $30 on there. peace

    I just bought a TD-10 TDW-1 kit today for a song. I already have a TD-7 and a TD-5.
    The TD-7 is the very first TD unit, and it also has a huge amount of features.

    • @jonathanbott1144
      @jonathanbott1144 Před 2 lety

      TD-7 is from 1992, the TD-10 is in a way its successor.

    Wow! I just replace my LCD screen on my Roland td-20 and I have no idea how to use the sequencer but I do have a midi keyboard got a lot of plugins from contact so I'm curious to try them on this. I also was told that I can use some of my drum plugins that I've purchased and use the Roland td-20 to play that drum kit but I'm not sure how to do all that yet.

    All of Roland flagship drum modules use the regular ac power plug like that. Even their currenet td 50 module.

    Ahh I own a ensoniq esq 1 from 1986 a really great synth but I’m thinking of selling it since the price has risen so much. Still looking for a dx100 since I think just the pure sine of that thing sounds so fantastic but those things have gotten expensive

    Can you use the headphone out as more outputs. Like assigning just the over heads?

    I had the td10 then a td10exp. You can make some great sounding kits with some editing. I would still use it but my brother sold me his td20 for a good price😅

    Anyone know what modern Roland kits pads will work with this TD-10 module?

    • @laptoples
      @laptoples Před 10 měsíci

      I'd assume almost all of them except for the newer digital snare, hi hats and ride cymbal with the USB jack.
      Other then that, I can't think of a pad or cymbal that wouldn't work.
      Hope you find some cheap decent stuff.
      Lots of stuff being sold out there.
      😁👍
