They're already reverting to the original homescreen design. The tiktok style UI is now moved into the 'Music' tab.
I just checked it out. Woof.
before the old ui was in the music tab, they’ve swapped those two around
The version in the music tab is actually an improvement on the original redesign.
Even Amazon has one now 😂
Thank fuck
When i saw you guys uploaded the video i was like "Thanks for giving more visibility to this issue, they need to know we users hate this" and then I went to the app and saw they actually reverted to the old UI, so I guess I can undo my 1 star review now
the funny thing is they were told, repeatedly in interviews, people absolutely hate this, don’t do this redesign, but they had their heads so far in the sand they still thought it was a good idea. Their main justification was “We think this could get us more money’ so, so dumb
People hated the Facebook wall too, before it turned into the iconic design that it became. It takes a while for opinions to stabilize and for users to see the merit in new layouts.
Nah keep it there. They never listen. Screw em
PLEASE tell me how you reverted it back to the old UI I hate this latest version.
@@DJMilez you dont. The company can but never will
Gotta love the "Do not auto-update apps" option
6 months later your version stops working, because of course they're that petty.
@@darukineo yes
If your app ever get automatically updated like Spotify just side load the old version on your android.. idk about ios but I've used this many times when these companies gave terrible updates
For sure! Except when it's server side!
@@nerdakash4920 It still does not last forever. Eventually their server stops responding to old versions or change the structure of the responses so older versions cannot work anymore, usually you can only hold on to an old version of major apps like facebook or spotify for like 6 months to a year tops. Sometimes when they do want to rollout a major feature it may be even less.
My big problem was the recent “like”/“favourite” change. Whenever I go on an artists page, album, or playlist I can’t tell straight away if I’ve liked the song already and I have to go into a separate menu to see that. Just really inconvenient, especially as someone who loves to like a bunch of songs and then go back and filter through them after
That’s the reason I left Apple Music years ago but now Spotify is doing that exact thing. Why????
oh my godddd yes I hate this
I feel like every time spotify redesigns, it becomes worse. I still miss that library design a few years ago that you could swipe right/left to switch between playlists, albums and podcasts
Yeah, I feel like everytime they make it harder to just find the things we want to, it is becoming more and more as apple music where your music, the things you actually like/ "liked" (with the heart thing) are set aside on the UI and the main thing are those that they're pushing onto the user so that they become popular but it feels weird
I love the playlists that recommend new songs based on the ones we've heard or liked and the radios, and the "on repeat" and stuff, but like I wish Spotify had kept more the vibes of just being this sort of music player app that has the ability to do streaming and recommend, and not this whole "algorithmic system"
..and STILL no easy way to get to the EQ settings.
I listen to electronic music, technical death metal, hardcore punk, delta blues, etc...
I need access to those settings.
It's not that difficult.. ;/
@@iggysixx the eq should be in your quicksettings dropdown. why would spotify have an extra eq ontop of your phones eq?
@@fietae not all phones have an eq also spotify eq is a lot better than some phone equalizers for example the built in one on iphone only has presets no ability to customize for each frequency
Marques absolutely nailed it with the tiktok and chorus comparison. Instead of listening to the entire song they are just shoving the catchiest part down your throat. What a bizarre world we are headed to for the future of music.
Why do companies we love keep fixing things that we love that aren't broken?
I think it’s because changes get people talking and increases engagement with the product. Just a guess.
My guess is that they try to bump up their revenue.
the designers have to justify their job by redesigning endlessly it doesn't matter if the redesign is more inconvenient as long as it is different and keeps their job off the chopping block
Ive tried spotify a few times over the years and i have never liked the UI/UX. Maybe im in the minority, but i dont give a shit about social/community features, live events, merch, etc. I just want to see the artist bio, then their top songs, then all of their albums, singles, similar artists. Thats it. I think the artist pages are so counterintuitive and clunky. Search results are meh. The "top" default filter is a mess IMO. YTM does it so much better, and im still on the GPM> train.
Yes, me too.
Oh hell yes ytm... .. also better recommendations
YTM is bundled with YT Premium so we also don't get ads on CZcams
@@jaspercasif you're on anything except iOS, it's pretty easy not to have ads on YT.
@@DeltaInsanity my point is that you can get more value with YT Premium/Music than Spotify.
I've had this redesign for a few weeks. The worst thing about it is while scrolling down, the featured song will start playing - but not from the beginning of the song or the chorus, but just a random line or even in the middle of a word.
I absolutely, totally despise, how everyone wants to rip-off TikTok, that form factor works for TikTok AND NOTHING ELSE.
I also totally dislike suggested content in social media, sometimes it works, but I just want to see posts from the people I follow :) But even if it's not a big deal, when you spoil me my favorite series, games, anime, etc. because a suggested post is something that spoils the story with no warning or filter, it's just wrong. 🙂
TikTok UI barely works for tiktok itself, any app that has more than 1 functionality simply doesn't fit with it.
I like suggested content from time to time because I think Spotify usually does it really well, my favorite bands I have found from their recommendations. But what’s the point if the entire page is not even recommendations, it’s just popular shit I don’t even listen to. I listen to punk/indie rock and it was somehow recommending me rap and pop 24/7. It would be better for them to not recommend on home page at all then go to recommendations on my own
This home screen makes it so that every time I open the app I want to delete it, I cannot explain how much I hate it.
I use Spotify every single day and I mainly listen to the daily mixes, it now takes me 4 taps and a scroll to the actual bottom of a page to start listening to a daily mix. It used to be 2 taps. On top of that, for whatever reason, they don’t appear on my playlists when I search for them. I can’t stand the app in its current state.
Guess what. You can just unsubscribe and delete it.
Really hate that redesign. I understand people like using Spotify for podcasts but I've always used a separate app for podcasts and I kinda hate the row of suggested podcasts at the top of the screen as well. I would love to be able to pin / hide / unhide categories and have even just a slightly customisable homepage. Spotify should act like a utility for listening to music not a social media app.
cant wait for spotify community posts from an artist ive never heard of in my life to pop up on my home screen
@@ictogon It's bad enough to see artist I could careless about. I don't listen to rap and don't care if Tyga or Drake or whoever... released a new album. They constantly shove overrated artist in our faces everywhere on the app now. It used to be way better BEFORE all that!
Hate the podcast nonsense so much. Just unsub'd today because of the price hike and the constantly shoving of a feature I will never use.
@@Afireinside912 unfortunately I think Tidal is the same price. They don't push podcasts though and it's a little cleaner. They do push other stuff like 'live' which is annoying.
I got this redesign and I freaked out. Thought my Spotify was wrecked.
thanks for bringing light into this. I am not a Spotify user, though it seems like everywhere in our phones are being turned into slot machines to hook us instead of serve us.
Spotify should really focus on Hi Res lossless feature I switched to Apple Music and the sound quality is just night and day.
It's an A/B test that most ecommerce companies do. that's why you're the only person seeing the new "homepage" design on spotify. you got opt-ed into an A/B Test, that's all... it may or may not get rolled out.
Would love a broader discussion around why these social media platforms feel the need to constantly make updates, most of which users hate. See this all the time with the minor and major adjustments made on Instagram, Spotify, even UI's like Android and iOS. It's as if the engineers have nothing better to do, and the execs making these decisions are constantly panicking about being left behind by the 'new' thing. How should software companies that are already at the top think about innovating in a way that actually benefits users?
Simple: shareholders DEMAND growth so stock price goes up. So it's never ok to be 'good enough' or even excellent at certain things and leave it at that. These companies are trying to make their stock prices higher to satisfy the shareholders, so we end up with this junk that no one really wants, but it tries to placate the shareholders and investors.
Capitalism. @ayo explained it well. These companies will sooner run themselves into the ground than dare to stop and stick with a good thing - and I don't mean that as an exaggeration. The market pressure to needlessly innovate has ruined countless software companies already.
I feel like they have a team in house for design specifically and they would have nothing to do. So they make up random shit
Product managers control the product. They have to justify their continued employment.
part of the reason is that people complain about everything, even when it’s better. The way to update apps is slowly over time. people don’t even notice the changes. it’s not the change people don’t like, it’s surprises
Companies do A/B testing where some set of people are shown new feature they add to get to know whether new design has a +ve impact or -ve impact
Also on the desktop app the album art is no longer resizable, unless hey've hidden that feature somewhere... I just want the album art to always be as big as possible
Very solid idea from Andrew to have them just make a discovery page with that update and put it there.
spotify will slowly turn itself into a social media
Switched to CZcams Music about a year ago and never looked back!
My favorite feature Spotify used to have was holding a song in a playlist and hearing a preview, then being able to scroll slowly and the previews would fade into each other!
Stoked that y’all used the band, Wet Leg, in the preview photo. Killer.
its great to discover new podcasts, which is like within the app- usually it used to be me seeing a podcast as a yt short or reel, finding something interesting- now I check their podcast and then have to search for the exact podcast, which is higher friction. it would be nice if we can continue listening to the podcast after the short segment is completed, taking me straight to that podcast. also would be great if they introduced the wave like yt to skip through the ads inbtwn pods and also check for the most important segment most people find interesting/ helpful.
I HATE THE UPDATE THEY JUST DID, NOW I CANT SKIP THROUGH MY PLAYLISTS TO PLAY A SONG I WANNA HEAR OMFGG 😡😡😡
I put all my fav songs in a single playlist, done it for years. With the new redesign, it takes 4 taps to find that playlist when it used to be on my home screen at launch.
I cant remember the last time spotify released an actual good update
Agreed! That redesign is the worst! I had it for a few weeks then it must’ve heard me complain or something because it reverted back to the good design. 😅
My lifelong insistence on manually updating all my apps about once per week paid off this time! My friend was complaining about the new Spotify UI and so I made sure to just not update it 😛
the only things keeping me on spotify is spotify connect, shared playlists with my friends and the spotify radio feature being better than apple musics to discover music & podcasts. Other than that, i absolutely hate the UI, the 144p animations on songs, no light mode. I love apple music's UI, light and dark mode, they actually show info about the artist and albums, the album and artists animations are wayyyyy nicer too, lyrics look better, sound quality is better, but their connect stuff is garbage compared to spotify, they have no collaborative playlists (i dont think) and their algorithm is terrible, and podcasts are in a seperate app. I need spotify but with apple musics animations and UI
I've been using Spotify since around 2014 and over the years all that has happened is the UX has got worse and the price has got higher
That conveyer belt analogy is brilliant
This is why CZcams Music is better. it just works and its easy to navigate to find and listen to music and it auto creates a radio station based on your musical taste and you end up discovering new things
Exactly
AND it comes with CZcams Premium! No Ads, can add Tiny Desk sets into your playlists (among any other videos), can listen to any video audio with your phone closed. It's a no-brainer.
spotify changed the ui back, didn't they?
@@mrigendrambhandari This. I'm one of those music listeners who never actively look for new music (I hardly ever use the recommended album), so quite a lot of my music catalog consists of songs that are only available on CZcams.
I like that they have moved it to a separate tab rather than being blasted with it whenever you open the app. I wouldn't say that this feature is horrible and is kinda quite useful because it plays a little snippet of the playlist/album/song so you know what you might be getting into, but if it was the homepage I see every time I open, I would just get super annoyed.
Been thinking about paying for music. This convinced me not to think about it anymore.
You guys paying for music? 😢
@@nerdakash4920 Why wouldn't you? Music offers some of the most value to our lives yet the artists get paid pennies.
@@Chickaqee did you not watch this video? I'd say thats a reason right there
Just get Deezer.. classic interface has being offering CD quality since forever with no weird "propietary" compression.
YES! And it is soo laggy as well. But on a high end phone, it really shouldn't be. Hell, on most phones it should be smooth.
The explore this playlist feature is great in the discovery playlists. Being able to quickly skim the playlist for gems is worthwhile
Not my beloved Spotify!!!!!!!
Always a great podcast. Keep up the great work and awesome new shoes!
I’m happy with Apple Music maybe because I’m just use to it since iTune days. The design doesn’t change much and it just plays music. I think that’s why I like it.
If Spotify starts forcing these horrible updates I'll switch to AM.
I just switched to Apple Music after years with Spotify. My God was I glad to have an actual music library for my music back. That’s how a music app should look like and guess what for podcasts you switch to a different app. Perfekt!
They did this 6 months ago to some users. Loads of negative feedback in their support forum. It was even like this on iPad so horrible on a large screen. I cancelled my account as a result as support could not turn the ab test off apparently. Someone senior with no clue was pushing this through.
Recents being a forced and fixed feature rather than an enabled/disabled feature pisses me off so much. It ruins the ascetic nature of an application. Good old days when Apple’s music app allowed you to hand select what 4 tabs show at the bottom of the selection bar and what items displayed on the Playlist page without the recents being smack dab at the beginning of everythjng
hate it too, especially that they took away the recently played and jump back in for that new feed. and apparently Spotify support had said to some users who have this "issue" to make a new account just to revert back to the old UI, which makes no sense.
I have completely switched to yt music because I have just grown tired of the Spotify suggestions. When he said "I love the spotify curated playlists" I was so surprised...
I'm still on the old UI and this new one will seriously make me consider going back to Deezer. Companies need to stop blaring noise in your face that you're not interested in.
I also agree about the Waze design. I do have home at the top, but I have no idea where my work address went.
I had the tiktok version of spotify for about 2 weeks and it went back to normal in the last few days
I have Spotify premium for free so I ain't complaining.😂
Try apple music, it's alot better than a few years ago, even on android
@@rahalrodrigo5430 Apple? Yeah, thanks, but no thanks
@@ridderbanaan Fair enough. Your other preferanve, deezer is also great.
that transition from the cap-throw to the end screen was CLEAN AS FUCK
i never use Spotify recommended stuff, curated playlists, or anything on the homepage so it was interesting hear that other get value out of it
Making this a separate "Discovery" page is a great idea. Then I can never look at it.
I switched to Apple Music a few months ago just because of this. For some reason I had the TikTok-style homepage for months already on Spotify.
I’m starting to wonder why I got into Wi-Fi music streaming. It’s so far from flawless. The music cuts off and your speakers don’t show up at times.
The conveyor belt sushi was a great analogy 😂
The "tiktok-ification" of literally EVERYTHING online
I really hate the new design of Spotify in recent years, it has become worse than before. The Release Radar and Discover Weekly playlists are sufficient for me to discover new music that I might enjoy. Not only is the mobile app frustrating, but the desktop app is as well.
Once it changed for me I showed it to all my friends asking if it changed for them and EVERYONE without exception HATED IT. So I just don’t understand how this even rolled out.
Spotify ui has been getting worse and worse. Can't do basic things like see the individual albums you liked in your library nor organize by artist. I have said for a long time every Spotify update either removes features or needlessly move things around. I even had my custom order fd up on Desktop with this recent update, and luckily got it back by organizing it by playlist and it saved my customer order.
Thank god the old style is back!! Absolutely hated it, and I’m glad it’s back to what it was (only moved to the “music” section but I don’t use it 😂)
I am so ready to move passed the "everything is tik tok" era of technology
Fun fact: TikTok is actually working on a Spotify competitor called TikTok Music and I'm in the beta program - it's super similar to TikTok in the sense they have a FYP and everything. It's super weird, I don't use it lol
Every company now:
Everything's gotta be video.
Is it audio? Gotta be video.
Is it video? Gotta be TikTok.
The more interesting optic here is that vertical videos and short content are just like any other trend, a variable, this will change, we don't know if it's going to change in the next 5 years or 15 years, but it will, and it's going to be sort of satisfying to see these brands having to revert changes or adapt to the next trend.
As long as it's optional. It just frustrates me when a company forces me to adjust because 'statistics'
It actually worked out really well for me, I found a bunch of catchy song choruses through it
About the "explore other stuff!", it's the reason I almost never go on CZcams anymore. My home page used to show me content I had subscribed to. Then they changed it!
I had the redesign and hated it. Checking my phone now, it's back to the old design. If they make the new style a separate tab, then whatever, but I hope to the great whatever in the sky that they don't force it on everyone.
Now since you've mentioned it. I stopped Appstore from auto-updating Spotify on my iPhone. Thanks! xD
What are your thoughts on Spotify DJ? I been using it for about a month and it’s a 4/10 it keeps playing old RnB from 80-00’s ALL THE TIME!! and it’s annoying tbh
I tried it by clicking the music tab and thought it was decent to find new playlists, gives you a little taste of the playlists I don’t mind it. However, I think making it default is bad and I don’t like it. I like having the option though.
I like it how it is on my phone, like it's normal until I select music or podcasts, I love discovering music, and I actually just straight up like the computer redesign
Had this update few weeks ago absolutely hated it and now it's back to old design. Glad that they atleast moved it to music tab
7:35 that transition 🤌🏻
I DJ as a hobby, and often skim through large piles of songs by playing a few key seconds of each and liking what interests me. I'll then go back when I have more time to listen to the ones I liked in full and organize by playlist or check out the rest of the artist/album they were from, but the first limiting pass helps me get much more breadth out of a discovery pass. It especially helps for electronic subgenres where the tracks are very long with minimal variance... So, I'm all for
But that said, the majority of my listening time will be spent in the long-form listening modes, and this has no place whatsoever as the home page. I'd rather have a discovery mode that generates tracks from a seed like the radio / enhanced playlists, plays a shorter segment, and puts the the likes into an "incoming" bucket playlist?
Heck, Spotify used to have that tap-and-hold=to-preview feature, so you could slowly drag down large playlists to a similar effect, but nope - their UI team removed that too. Sigh.
the outro transition was smoooooth.
Huh, so I remember a few days ago my Spotify updated but not like this, the homepage was normal but if I was playing a song the name of the song and the artist was on the top left corner instead on the bottom left, while the album art was covering the whole screen and I think it even was cropped. Then if you clicked on the song it would take you to the playlist it was playing from instead of the album/single/collection. It probably didn't last even a week and then was reverted to the "normal" UI.
Spotify lite version app still bears the same look of old design. It's so good compared to regular app
Not seeing any changes to my Spotify yet but CZcams Changed the Library tab in the Android App :(
So now when I'm the car trying to set my music playlist on there I have to stop, squint and scroll some to get to my playlist in a tiny horizontal row where it used to be large and vertical scroll but my often used playlist was always at top 😢😢😢
I still have the same page, where I can see my top 6 artists. And once I click on the music or podcast on the top left corner, it takes me to the TikTok-esque design.
Is there a difference between how Spotify looks in different phones - iOS or Android?
I like the story/TikTok theme on playlist. It helps with music discovery in the first 30 seconds
Look how slow it is, thank god they've reverted to the old home page
Spotify suggestions are the worst. I sometimes listen to thunderstorms when studying an Spotify will suddenly think that I only want to see that for months afterwards. Even when I get music recommendations they’re almost always songs I already know
Yes I like it under the Music tab. It gives sneek peak into all the good songs especially to introduce yourself to new music
Awesome Video guys . Thank you for sharing and agree should be able to listen and set up the way you want it.✌️
This is such a plague on the tech sphere. VC’s/investors/MBA’s see the latest trend and want their company to mirror it, regardless of whether it contextually fits into their company or not. Their all losing their identity to chase that of another, loosing their USP in the process to chase vapid revenue that will never be realised as ITS NOT YOUR PLACE IN THE MARKET. Actually innovate with the product you have, put some effort in and earn the damn billions you have instead of chasing some facade that tanks your own service.
OMG I had that shit for 2 or 3 weeks and HATED IT! It finally reverted to the original version and I couldn't be happier. Haven't they heard if it ain't broke, then don't try to fix it ‼️
thanks for giving it a major light
My Spotify reverted back. Was so thankful
didn't update my spotify , i already knew they were going to do something terrible
"TikTok part of the song"
That shit goes so hard, feel free to screenshot
I had it for a month or two ON MY IPAD, it was suck a waste of space but thankfully they reverted back to the old ui
I’m a little late, but I had this weird layout a couple months ago and it drove me nuts.
Luckily, it went away after a couple days.
What i love doing is when i am vibing to a song and i want more like it i go to the song radio and i discover a ton of music that way
I actually started using CZcams Music more because Spotify started to annoy me. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed these changes. 😝🤣
That analogy about the sushi conveyer belt is fucking genius
I'm dreading the day that CZcams Music copies this. Also, I have a rant about CZcams Music. Why is it that I can't look at a "Subcribed" page to see all the music music from the artists I've subscribed to? I hate having to rely on the algorithm to surface it (which it doesn't do reliably). Being able to "hit the notification bell" for artists would be nice too. I mean, why rebrand to CZcams if you don't have those functions? A pre-save function would be nice too. Give me some control. I understand that most people are more passive listeners, but I know what I want to hear. Let me choose it! I pester CZcams Music about this stuff on twitter every few months.
I got this on my iPad around 2 months ago and absolutely hated it especially because 70% of the screen was COMPLETELY EMPTY. Thankfully, they've switched back now - hopefully they got the message and it wasn't just A/B testing before a widespread introduction.
That feature would work for showing interesting sections of podcasts instead of music i think
Oof that end transition BIG OOF
Almost looks like the glitch was a half update. Like the time some people had only TikTok scrolling for Instagram photos.
i had the redesign, just checked now and apparently it's been reverted 🙏🏻
I'm honestly so happy switching from Spotify to Apple Music. Higher audio quality and the artists I listen to get a higher portion of the profits.
