      If he came back in the 80s, I'd never be born.
      If he comes back tomorrow, my baby will never be born...

    So, once there was a stinky wino who began to be convicted of his sins and tried to go to church. The people in the church asked him to leave. As he sat on the front steps of the meeting house weeping, Jesus walked up to him and asked " what's wrong brother"? The wino said " I just wanted to go to church" to which Jesus replied " don't feel bad, I've been trying to get into that church for years and they keep throwing me out too"!

    Get in touch with Woyatan Lutheran Church at Haines and Anamosa, they are a Native church that stepped up to feed and shelter the unhoused relatives this past winter when the city allowed the Hope Center shelter close with no plan after the city council voted down their new location that had been donated to them and plans already previously approved, and their landlord at the time, a different church, suddenly doubled their rent last fall.

    • @noelcastalia
      @noelcastalia Před měsícem +1

      You are correct about the Hope Center and what the city allowed to happen. The Hope Center was a daytime shelter that helped those in need for a hot meal, used clothing; mail services; access to local and other government services; a place to wash clothing; a place to stay during the day to get out of the weather and off the streets for a few hours a day. They also provided things like personal hygiene bags. There were some businesses that made made weekly or monthly donations, a few Christian groups and individuals did what they could but the numbers were small compared to the need and size of Rapid City. Not all homeless are alcoholics or drug addicts, that's just a complete misconception of the majority of the population or the ones that just choose to be ignorant. The Hope Center made a difference and it needs to be brought back with more facilities, more community support and less ignorance or condemnation. Rapid City does have spring people out there, I've seen it but they are not the majority. That what is really discouraging and sad. I did not grow up in this community without civic awareness or humanity as it is now. Things with people need to change.

      @@toejam503 Scripture says if a man won't work, don't let him eat, so what you say is true. Unfortunately the majority of Christians just categorize all homeless as such, and that is far from true. Even in this command to not feed a lazy man, there is no instruction not to feed his kids or wife, who are likely victims of his laziness. True discernment is necessary, and if in doubt we should always give the benefit of the doubt, as that is what we would want ourselves if the situation was reversed.

      It has *NOTHING* to do with witness or missions! You should go back and read 2 Thessalonians 3 to help avoid this kind of misuse of scripture.
      There's nothing in that passage to give us permission to *not* feed the hungry simply because they have a dangly bit between thier legs!

      @preppingforprophecy7680 Před měsícem

      @@andy8041 I stand by my comment that we must exercise discretion in who we feed and how we offer a helping hand. Galatians 6:7 tells us "Be not deceived, Elohim is not mocked. For whatever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." If a man sows nothing, he deserves nothing. In the parable of the talents, the man who did nothing with his talent earned his own damnation according to Yahshua. According to the law, we are all under instruction to work six days then rest on the seventh. In Genesis 3:19 Yahweh himself instructed Adam to earn his own bread by the sweat of his brow. The law of Moses is also clear. If a man is poor, he is allowed to work for his own food by picking the edges of my fields, which I am instructed to leave for the poor and the widows. I am under no biblical command, law, or instruction to harvest my crops and provide a free home cooked meal or even my crops to anyone. That being said, we should definitely help and feed those who are truly in need. Feel free to do as you wish according to your own conscious. Yet I challenge you to find any biblical command to feed the slothful. I challenge you to find a scripture where Yahshua enables a drunkard, an addict, or a slothful person. I tend to vet a man's worthiness by offering him a chance to work. If he refuses or makes excuses, then he gets no help from me. Other related scriptures: Prov 12:27, 13:4, 19:15, 20:4, 23:21, Rom 12:10-11....

    A few years before I got married, I went to a single adults ministry group at a church I was looking to join. The leader of that group welcomed the new folks and told a story about how he had been "forced to ask a young woman to leave the group" due to the fact that she was recently divorced. I was so shocked I just sat there for a minute. Then I just got up and left quietly. I talked to the single adult pastor who confirmed that they discouraged divorcees from joining the congregation.

    Second the Lakota didn't arrive in the west side of South Dakota till around the 1750s after the Ojibwe forced them out of Minnesota and they proceeded to decimate any tribe that challenged them.
    Third, the vagrancy in Rapid City are a product of drugs and bad parenting as well as a lack of moral teaching and mental strength. "They have no hope". They are only taught the we owe them something because of the past and at that I say "Does Britain owe me?" How about the Lakota? Do they owe the tribes that they wiped out?

Why? So the government would get the praise rather than God. I think this has given the "church" the wrong impression that we don't need to help these people. Is there government money for the people? Yes, but what most homeless people really need is a change of heart. and that is found through Jesus Christ. The government doesn't have the answers, but Jesus does, so we the church still have the responsibility to help where we can.

      God *is* the father in the prodigal son, isn't he?
      The parable comes from Luke 15, a series of parables Jesus tells in response to a group of Pharisees "complain[ing] that he was associationg with sinful people."
      We get the parables of the lost sheep, lost coin, and lost son. The passage as a whole seems to indicate that we *should* associate with sinful people, and not be Pharisees who condem others for such association.
      And we can't blame the unsaved for being sinners, can we? If it wasn't for Christ seeking and saving us, we would only be able to sin, too.
