- The South Waikato District Council has pulled up the drawbridge, closed the windows and raised its sheilds. It refuses to address the issue I face and it also will not even respond to my emails. This is their standard modus operandi when faced with difficult problems.
Help me by contacting the councilors (CC them all) and the executive to politely ask what is being done to resolve the situation and query why this is taking so very long -- especially in light of my repeated offers to sit down for 30 minutes with them and sort things out.

@@eddiehenrard5251 Probably a little less than B-all. My old mate used to be a long time member of the local council. He freely admitted to using the standard response to "Baksheesh" requests for assistance or Special Treatment for Worthy Causes etc.
"Councillor B. moves to 'Mark it as read' - then chuck it in the bin! Ratepayer funds are for fixing the roads, not running a charity for every fekin' whining splinter group in the country!"
The Local Council was always in credit then and the local roads were immaculate. Lately the Fairy Brigade have gained the ascendency - and we're up to our eyes in debt, but at least we've got a lovely headquarters for the local branch of the Holistic Therapists of the Lesbian Support Group for Unemployed Gay Goannas. Plus ready-made dugouts in the roads to position the tanks in should the Russians/Chinese/Kiwis make a surprise attack! 👿🙄

I have just sent all the councillors and mayor, individually, a polite (very polite) email questioning the objectivity and foundation of the regulations concerning UAV activity in the council's jurisdiction.
No problem, emailed a letter to the mayor. Only took 15 minutes. Come on everyone, you will feel better once you have. I know I do. Andy in uk.
I work in council and it only takes 1 person in the right position to do this sh*t, so wrong and even when others dare not say anything to rock the boat as they have to work alongside them or under them and afraid to step up, seen it many times, so Im at work just reading this, and as soon as I get home tonight I will follow-up and get a letter off to them. so consider sent by midnight 👨💻

I am an Italian guy who knows about Tokoroa and have always wanted to visit because of this living monument you have there. I think it is not an exaggeration to say that mr. I’ve had a reply now it’s just the same of what you have had said to you Bruce just a useless answer saying what the rules are and you need to comply to them but like you said only about a 100 have sent emails to them so nothing will change, come on subscribers even if you get same answers as mine at least you are showing it’s overreaching their powers and not resolving Bruce’s flying at the field, I feel sorry for this man he’s stuck his head above the parapet to save the hobby and he has over 200k subs and only one % have answered the call it’s bit crap ain’t it

I’m also not going to pretend people doing fpv aren’t breaking laws and encroaching on peoples privacy. If anything bad operators in the USA are giving the ama and faa a headache to deal with.
Restrictions on rc fixed wing have been the result of quad rotor operators causing near misses.
Following on from being motivated watching your videos, I decided to see about my council’s meetings etc., and found that they actually have been streaming meetings since about 2016 and some of them are on their website. I’m going to get to know how our local councillors are at work now :) Thanks Bruce
Probably the main reason to visit nz, if i was in the southern hemisphere, would be to fly at tokaroa with Bruce and the gang. Can't think of anywhere else I'd like to go on the islands. 😊

It has been to the attention of the model flying community that Mr Simpson has drawn your attention to a number of issues around the flying of models at his local field.
After a number of weeks his queries are yet to be answered which is causing issues with the production of videos on his very popular CZcams channel.
I would kindly ask that someone reply to Bruce as soon as possible if for no other reason than a common curtesy to say thank you for all the hard work he does to promote the local area.
Such an upstanding member of the community should not be left in the dark on such an important issue especially given the international attention it's is gaining.

At no time has the Council prevented Mr Simpson from flying drones. We have simply asked that Mr Simpson do so in accordance with established policy as outlined in our letter to him which stated -
The South Waikato District Council (SWDC) is responsible for all activities carried out at the Tokoroa Airfield and with the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA) require specific requirements to be met if a drone/unmanned aircraft is flown at an uncontrolled aerodrome such as the Tokoroa Airfield.
In terms of the CAA, Part 101 rules no person is permitted to operate a drone/unmanned aircraft on or within 4kms of the airfield without the following authorities:
- Aerodrome Operator
- Membership of MFNZ or NZJMA
- Hold a Wings badge or a pilot’s licence to fly a drone/unmanned aircraft.
These requirements are designed to ensure the safety of the public which is Council’s sole concern.

Hi Bruce, a polite request has been sent. I have also asked if there is a way where I can be present if a meeting was to be held as Auckland is not that far away. And as I was visiting Tokoroa last Saturday and found a deserted airfield it is a shame it isn't been used by more people. I hope for a speedy solution for you and that there is an other possibility for a visit.

I just sent the Mayor and 11 other separate emails.
10 of those were to each of the individual council members and 1 was a Blanket or "General Inquiry".
For a total of 12 Emails. (I have confirmation #'s) for follow up if need be.
I have not figured how to get the Executives yet. it's a smoke and mirrors game on the contact and after this I'm sure they will add more layers.
Not sure if my requests will go to junk or not... but a few cages should have been rattled.

I am Juan Lobos, a Spanish nationality living in Ecuador.
I have always wanted to visit New Zealand, and I was planning the route because I had enough savings to go the next year.
But I follow a CZcams channel, Xjet, and he is saying that it is not allowed to fly drones or model aviation in your airport, which was possible until last year, or fly on the big par in your town.
For me, model aviation and drone flying is a hobby, but now.
Bruce is telling the truth, and now it is not allowed to fly models around your town? And in the airport? I saw them many times in the videos, and I wanted to fly with them.
The only reason to go north of Wellington is to fly at Tokoroa. If that is now not allowed, I will go directly from Auckland to Wellington and the South Island.
I wish that I watched this earlier, but I just sent the letter. Thanks for everything you do to protect our hobby as always, Bruce.

No.. they're "special". They often get a mention in council communications but the local flyers (especially myself) who are there almost every weekend never rate a word.

Hi Bruce, do New Zealand’s local governments have the same things that we have in the UK the customer charter which states that they have to reply to all enquiries within a set amount of time or even the freedom of information act where they have to reply to an enquiry
I believe that if you use the web form there are KPIs that they are supposed to maintain and that involves meeting a standard for response times.
Here in the US, sadly you can not get 2 people to agree to do anything about this Hobby and why we are in this nonsense to start with . I hope you get a few thousand to email your council, but I do not expect that many maybe a hundred or so . But a vast array from many different Countries may surprise them . I will await your video's and the Q&A and will look into emailing your council as i assume even in Nz, they have little authority to do what they claim they can do, or they would have already addressed the matter.

To be honest, I agree with you in regards to numbers -- but I'm ever optimistic. I guess this is a good opportunity to find out whether it's actually worth me continuing my crusade to protect and promote the hobby. If there's no support then I'll likely reconsider what I'm doing in future.

It's a deeply concerning situation and I have asked for clarification so that you can continuing being an ambassador for safe model aviation and the wider South Waikato district.
Sounds like your councils are the same as ours across the ditch, It is note worthy that in my council, the councilors recently sacked the manager. Walked in told him politely, He had no idea it was comming, had to pay him the standard exit fee for executives which is rather high, and marched him out of the building never to return. It can be done, The knowledge and appropreate clauses and the brass to do it is what is needed. Emails sent. I had no idea before looking at the councils properganda sheet that there is more that one rc club at your field, I assume that they are the ones that have given you greif over the years. And so close.
This is awful. Like you said, you are the person that before all this has kept us safe in the hobby. You set a good example for all of us and tried to keep us out of trouble. What you have done for this hobby is immeasurable. What’s happening to the hobby is depressing and we need to stand up. We need all creators in the hobby to help out. This video may not have persuaded enough people to email, but maybe if we can get more CZcamsrs to make a video. Any way, thank you for all you have done over the years and I really really hope we can do something about this. I have emailed all of them politely and will keep emailing them until something happens.

I had similar "drabridge" responses from Lakes District Council for almost 2 years until I approached the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman challenged the Council and eventually the issue was resolved in my favour. with suitable apologies. Why not try the Ombudsman?

Sadly, I have some experience with local government - so you have my sympathy.
I'm inclined to send a LGOIMA request, which will undoubtedly turn into the usual game of hide and seek, but which will tend to focus their attention. To make that more effective it would be helpful if you published a timeline of your interactions with them, including the positions held by the people you have dealt with. I realise that I could go back through the last few videos and collect much of what I've asked for but it would speed things up (and improve accuracy) if I didn't have to rely on transcriptions.
