This man was a genius. There is no doubt that acoustic suspension speakers produce superior bass compared to ported speakers. The difference is obvious between my acoustic suspension NHTs and my ported B and Ws. Among other things, he invented the belt drive turntable. All audiophiles today owe him a huge debt.
One would hope there will be a revival of acoustic suspension speakers. Ported systems have better specs on paper but there is no such thing as a free lunch. The new line of KLH speakers use acoustic suspension, which is a good sign.
yeah I can't stand the sound of ported. Give me sealed or give me death that's more or less the idea. ported sounds flattish, the pulse has been sucked out of it. There's a very simple way of improving ported speakers and that's hammering a cork into that damned hole.. I've got a fantasy about doing a youtube series 'improve your speakers' and then hammering a cork into a small two way speaker and then the thing breaks apart and then you have these planks and a small electrolite desperately trying to keep things together 'oh crap'..
After personally reviewing modern speakers for years I've decided to go with AR3 or AR3a. I just need someone to do the restorative work for me. AR LST would work too.
