    He's also great at maximizing volume without it sounding over compressed, still keeping alot of dynamics in the mix

    Thanks AES. In 1965, we mastered on a Scully at Natec Sound in Sydney. Bobs comment that resonated with me is, “Ya gotta have patience” lol.

    I have an ORIGINAL 1973 PRESSING of Todd Rundgren's A Wizard, a True Star that was cut by Bob Ludwig at Sterling Sound. I still cannot believe just HOW he could get fantastic sound while cramming the grooves together all at the same time! All the statements he makes in this video are VERY true.

    I have quite a few albums mastered by Bob and they are great! One example is AC/DCs "Back In Black".

    He also mastered Todd Rundgren's 1975 LP "INITIATION" which is one of the longest LP's ever cut, 32 + on side one and 35+ on side two. There were sacrifices in sound quality that had to be made. There was a bass roll off at about 40HZ as well as compression, which had to be done to keep the grooves as small as possible, plus on side two, since there was so much music for that one side, that was very dynamic, the pitch of that side had to be raised half a step so it would all fit!

    8:56 🙉👀 i wish MORE people would notice that 👀 (as I have seen a lot of overly distorted tracks being placed on the inner circles)

    Well, there is a segment out there that are less than pleased with Bob's remaster of Nirvana's "Nevermind".
    I have not heard it as I own only the original, so I suggest you go listen to it and form your own judgement.
    In any case, I tend to avoid digital remasters like Lepers(!)

    I always thought of the necessity of remastering to improved the sounds,because some intstruments were being drowned by other instruments,in some recordings,like if you listen to Elvis 'if i can dream' the electric guitar and organs was being overwhelm by the orchestra

      Johnny Angeles: That's mixing, not mastering. Mastering is akin to the final gloss and leveling. Getting all the songs in a collection to be roughly the same volume and even some EQ similarity.

      thanks,yeah,was mixing doned by the original player?or somebody was hired to doubled the instrument sounds?
