2011 Vauxhall / Opel Insignia
No power p0234 p0299
In this we had an overboosting issue and an under boosting issue customer's complaint that the car had no power this was an intermittent fault as it did not happen all the time and in the same place
We go through a diagnosis on how to test the parts to determine exactly what is wrong before buying anything this is a very common problem - Auta a dopravní prostředky
If you have to order a replacement make sure it's the latest version for A20DTH... Left side of valve will be round, NOT rectangular as can be seen on the one originally fitted to the vehicle. Basically it has to look like the one shown at 17:43. He's fitting the right one. Thanks for the vid mate!
Thank you for the vid, have similar issue and will be running thru this vid today in diagnosing mine. 😎
Thanks for the reply. All hoses and pipes intact, going to check the wastegate, then call the cavalry to get the proper tackle on it.👍
boom sorted
Recently had exactly the same intermittent problems with power, on 2016 1.6 Astra K. Diagnostic showing underboost. Turned out to be a leak on the stainless steel pipe from the exhaust manifold. Quick weld from my mechanic, and all is good.
Nice work with the diagnostics to verify the problem. No throwing of parts here!
wyattoneable thanks mate
great diagnoses and repair! Thanks Leon! Always know your components!
The Disgruntled Mechanic thanks a lot mate much appreciated yes 100% know what you are testing
Thanks for the video, today I solved a problem similar to this 👍🏼
Sorted!!
Having the exact same problem with my insignia, same with mine pipes are fine no leak, mass air flow sensor is fine, no smoke so I think turbo is fine. So I think its the solenoid aswell
Great diagnostics and fix Leon! Just goes to show that you can use all kinds of test equipment to help nail down a fault :)
stuzman yes 100% the amount of times I've used at four different things is unbelievable as long as you know your components you know what you can and can't do it thanks for popping in mate
Great video!
Thank you for sharing!
lmsvvavr thanks mate thanks for watching
Hello again.. Ive just had an insignia in for the same fault and again intermitant... so ive ordered a valve for the morning... When I was testing for control as you did I had the same 2.5v at idle. Did you confirm as you said you should have 7 volts at idle? I will check mine after I have installed it...Thanks again leon...Top stuff
Great Informative Video, Had the same issue on my 2012 astra gtc, all sorted for £40 cheers
Thanks mate
I'm still On The clock mate. Will watch when home.giving a thumbs up early. Cheers
Javier Rocha sorted!!!!!
Thank you bro your video helps me with my Insignia 👍😃
That's what it's all about glad it helped you mate
VW uses similar valves... thermal imaging gun, good idea (good & bad images, like a waveform database).
Thomas EXOVCDS yes thermal imager just put it on the engine would have seen this straight away could have diagnosed it in 2 seconds😁😁😁😁 I need to get one and build up my database
Hi. Great video and nice testing. I was wondering why, when you where testing the control wire, the multimeter showed around 600mv engine off and 2.6 volts at idle, but when you took control of it with the scan tool, it was showing battery voltage ( as it's supposed to because it's not energised and the 12 volt feed comes through the solenoid to the control wire right to the pcm), and going down to aprox. 7 volts at 45% control of boost solenoid. And when the scan tool stoped controlling the boost solenoid, the voltage came back to 2,6 volts. I mean, could you see from the beginning that there is resistance in the circuit?Or there's something i don't get about how this solenoid is operated. Anyway, thank's for your videos. Keep doing it good.
Nice work again, thanks for sharing 👍👍
Richard McWhirter thanks mate
Got this EXACT problem on an Alfa 2.0 JTDM - turn engine off and on and it’s fine. Problem is that it’s intermittent- done it three times in the last 700 miles or so. I doubt this is testable and I’ll end up just throwing the part at it.
Hi, great video. Thanks.
Im having the same issue (astra 1.7cdti, 2013), I only have the overboost code appearing on the scan. I was told this is likely turbo? Althouh it is intermittent Could it still be the egr? Or would a separate code indicate egr ?
Thank you bud
Great video have the same problem finally solved situation
Thanks a lot mate glad you got it sorted glad the video helped you
Hi mate I just want say thank you very much!!! you just save me a 400 to 600 pounds I ask couple garage guys and all was saying I mid need new engine , but I was convinced that was something . So I watch your video just now and went to my car to check and for my surprise was unplugged so i put back and now running like new , thanks mate one more time .
Glad it helped you mate
@@bodgitandleggitgarage can I have your contact number pls
Just the plug was out, mechanics said new engine needed, wow. That's why I started doing my vehicles maintenance my self.
Great video mate im glad my mondeo is a euro 3 with a vacume acuator
thanks mate and yes
An extremely thorough diagnosis young man👍
One Auto, thanks mate but.......🤣🤣🤣🤣
Test Not Guess!
i have a vauxhall insignia 2.00 litre auto 2015, just recently i have put my foot down and the car has died for about a second or two but then picks up and drives normally.
Great vid Leon. The joys of the modern turbo diesel

Did you happen to have a wastegate rattle aswell!? I have a 2.0tsi ea888 with this same fault code.. a garage changed the n75 and a diverter and it fixed it... but a week later it failed again
Where in ireland are you based? Got a 2009 vaxhall insignia that keeps going into line mode.
Had the same problem on a A class with the 1.7 diesel lump. No codes though. Proper nightmare.
DIY Carguy yes common problem these days in modern cars with this valve
When you changed the solenoid did it work straight away ? I changed mine and not much has changed and my car was doing the exact same as the car in your video
Great job Leon,
125 SM thanks mate
Great video and we'll appreciated. I followed what I could and yes it was the boost control solenoid that was giving the problem (burning hot) Replaced it & Ran grand for a bit and then threw a P0234, P2263 (both intermittent faults) and P003A (position not learned) fault. Any thoughts before sending it to Opel? Many thanks in advance.
Hi mate it's going to be impossible for me to diagnose this through text you're going to have to get some live data and monitor exactly what's going off then you are going to have to make sure you've got no leaks in your turbo system then you can check your powers and grounds to your boost control valve check the wires there's just too much to list that this could be this will have to be diagnosed properly
Drive your car down the road to see exactly what it is boosting at when you go through all your Gears and see when the faults actually comes up you can do all this through live data
Iv got the same issues on 2015 2.0L vauxhall insignia Sri, ran the engine idle for 5 minutes that sensor didn't get hot. Any ideas what mine could be thanks I'm advance
Please help I have turbocharger overboost fault code also along with turbocharger position not learned. It’s a 6 month old turbo. Think solenoid is faulty
Should measure the coil resistance of both units see if there is a difference good for future testers have a value for reference..
Mike yes you certainly can do but with the test I did I didn't need to as I could tell it was damaged
Very knowledgeable and clever guy 👍
Thanks mate
Nice diagnosis Leon! Bob
Hayward's Automotive thanks mate
My Vauxhall insignia 2009 showing Service vehicle soon & feels like no power, running hardly 40 mile speed.
So if I change the solanoid, it will correct the issue right
Top man, i have insignia 1.8 Sri that is doing the same except it's in 1st and 2nd gear very informative information Thanks.ps was getting 16 mpg already been to garage and got new callipers and brake pads no diagnostics like yours ofcourse Wish it was, And it's still only 22 mpg any suggestions Leon.
Hi mate the problem is it could be lots of things it could be a simple thing is if you've got new pads and discs they could be slightly seized it could be air flow metres sensors just too many things to list I would need an error code to try and lead you into some sort of Direction
Hi, i have tested the cable that came from the ECU to the pieburg valve and i find 9V with car key in ON position but engine off. Is normal? Thanks in advance. The car is Opel insignia 1.4 turbo LPG 140cv
I've got same problem but it's not either boost nor vacuum solenoid or a leak in system
I have insignia 1.6 diesel and my situation is very strange one day the car is running perfectly the next day is losing power what could that be? there are no errors coming up and I have tried so many garages all they trying taking your money and not fixing the problem any ideas ? ? ? thanks in advance
hi ,i have 0172 and 0299 codes,is it able for this problem
Im having these exact problems with my -13 Insignia. Whats that part called and whats the partnumber? I have one on each side.
Having this issue on my petrol 2 litre turbo it says underboost but im quite sure that car doesnt have this solenoid
Nice job! Fancy tools I see 😊
The mech a nic hahahh we all like fancy tools we just never have enough😁😁😁😁
sweet, sorted, good one leon!

My insignia Is losing power,I hope it's not the turbo, can you give me a price on a new turbo including labour plesse?
You are the best mechanic at CZcams.
You obviously haven't seen too many other channels and mate lol

Excellent video let's have more .
Good video. I have a Corsa D 1.7 CDTI with code P0299. Similar problem to this. If I put my foot down in 3rd it kicks in to limp mode and struggles beyond 65mph. Is there one of these solenoid on my car? Thanks. By the way I know nothing when it comes to mechanics
Carl Horne yes it does have one of these but don't just replace it make sure this is your problem it might not be your problem in your case tested first
5 years later and you do have thermal imaging camera mate 😜👍

I’m in Leeds West Yorkshire but we come over for weekends and holidays maybe could put something together
Great video
Sweet, sorted, in the can. On to the next with no worries. She is milked dry of any doubt 😁
robinsonsauto lol thanks mate
Nice! My car also has no power in any gear and my boost valve makes a pulsing hum kinda sound intermittently would it be the valve or somthing causing the valve to do it?
stephan harrison5ih5ygt hi mate like I say in the video it could be a number of things you have to start pulling codes and doing some test to find out what is wrong
bodgit and leggit garage thanks for the reply mate.. codes pulled off today are PO299/PO830/P2565/PO03A i cant see or feel any holes in the pipes etc but the boost solenoid is pulsing away time to time like a groaning cow lol
My 09 insignia is doing this as well. I thought it was the egr valve. Pulled it out and the pipe and cleaned it but it made little difference. On the motorway it'd get up to about 50mph in 4th and just sit there with you foot on the floor. Getting it home I lifted the bonnet and the boost solenoid was making a hell of a clicking sound (engine off). It also makes a sort of farting sound sometimes. I need my neighbour to stick it on his computer and see what the fault is.
Hi mate yes you definitely want to get it plugged in because they have a lot of common issues not necessarily your solenoid make sure you have a good scan tool as OBD2 doesn't read the code properly on Vauxhalls make sure you test it before just replacing it
@@bodgitandleggitgarage I found 4 holes in my intercooler pipe. That won't help. If that doesn't fix it i'll be taking it to the professionals.
@@spwicks1980 well it certainly wouldn't help mate lol
@@bodgitandleggitgarage your videos have been helpful diagnosing my problems. Big thanks!
@@spwicks1980 I'm glad they helped you out mate
Hi hope someone can help me, I changed the solenoid, does the service vehicle have to be reset or does it reset itself, in my car it hasn’t reset and I am getting power, not exactly what I normally get but definitely different
hi mate you might have a separate issue you're going to have to plug the car in and see what error code you have it could just be a simple case of resetting or you might have another issue somewhere
Great video mate. Had exact same issue could sometimes get out of 3rd and into 4th, changed solenoid but unfortunately still have same issue, runs more smoothly but still goes into limp mode, any other ideas? Any help appreciated
Hi mate as I'm sure you can appreciate it's going to be very difficult for me to guess what's wrong with your car it's going to need to be diagnosed properly I don't want to say anything to you and you to buy a very expensive park and for it not to work you have to use a good scantle to pull the codes off that OBD2 data is not good enough you need factory scan data if you could pull me some codes off I could help you a little bit more but without any code it's impossible
@@bodgitandleggitgarage cheers mate, can you recommend a scan tool that work with Opel's
Cheers and keep the videos coming
@@jamesdm75 lots of them do mate but you need more than just an OBD2 reader you need scan reader as well or factory data but you are talking at least £500 upwards I don't know of any under that price that does it very good
@@bodgitandleggitgarage OK thanks again I'll look around and see what works

Hi man i have a problem with my corsa d 1.3 cdti 90 hp, i have p0234 and p0243 errors and no1 have fixed it until now.. Can you help me to tell what is the problem so i can show to my mecanic this.
Hi mate as I'm sure you can agree it will be absolutely impossible for me to tell you what's wrong with the car as you can see in the video you have to test things properly and there is many different reasons why you can have these error codes I explained everything in the video it will have to be tested properly to determine what is wrong and then fix that
Help ...fault code P2263,no power.Changed boost solenoid no difference.Carbon clean carried out...😞 any suggestions!
hi mate it will have to be diagnosed properly it is impossible for me to Guess That's Why in a video are you diagnosed everything properly before I made the call on what it was if I tell you something and it is wrong it's just going to be a waste of money and you are not going to be happy
I’ve just ordered a new 1 of these as my car is vibrating when idling 🤞 hope this will fix the problem
Hi mate I hope you diagnosed it first and not just guessed they can be lots more problems then this particular part
@@bodgitandleggitgarage I haven’t to be fair but as you mentioned they are a common fault and the part is cheap I thought I’d give it a go.
@@martinrussell9251 good luck I hope it fixes your problem
@@bodgitandleggitgarage hi mate.. didn’t work on mine.. I took egr valve and inlet pipe off gave them a clean.. car seems more responsive but still vibrating when idling 🤷♂️ think I need to scan it
I have the same problem now after replacing the boost pipe because it was split it came up with a dpf fault any suggestions this has happened before it's has a solenoid replacement back in May as well
Hi mate as I'm sure you can understand it'll be impossible me to tell you what's wrong as I cannot see the car or do any testing but if you've had problems with your boost then your DPF would not be able to regenerate so pretend she could be blocked there is ways of sorting and checking this out but you are going to need some expensive equipment to check it out like an oscilloscope it's very easy to test once you have the right equipment and you can see if your DPF is blocked if it is you can either do a forced regeneration for clean it whichever needs to be done
@@bodgitandleggitgarage would it be worth taking it to be professionally cleaned as I know they can be done ?

Can u tell me where to find pcv valve in insignia?
in the car i was working on it was in the rocker cover
I replaced main 4 months ago now the boost control stopped working?
ok?
can it be this boost control valve, but in my car its not getting very hot?
Yes mate it's a possibility if it's not working this one was just getting stuck which was causing it to heat up you'll have to check it properly
That sure is a nifty meter. For sure and for certain !
Randy the Appliance Guy yes mate it's definitely Andy nice and quick
Does anyone know why mmy car keeps saying service esp. Its only just started doing it any help please

Hello mate I was getting a service vehicle soon message and I replaced turbo boost control valve. And the problem was gone car was running fine for 1 day and now again I am facing the same issue after a day if good running again loss of power and service vehicle soon. What do u think could be the problem could it be dirty valves or something else?
Navjot Virk hi mate it could be 1001 things you need to get it plugged in to pull some codes and test don't just replace parts you always have to test before you replace
It's just giving a maf sensor fault I had it replaced. The man at garage clears the code car runs fine for 20 miles and bang again the same code
Navjot Virk your best I've taken it somebody who knows what they are doing and will test it properly impossible for me to tell you as it could be 1001 things it needs testing properly to find out exactly what is wrong

@@dothebouncycastleshire5079 you are going to need to go and live data and see if you getting any readings from the turbo when something isn't learnt correctly you normally get a really high reading or a really low Reading or no reading at all it goes onto a common reading that the computer recognizes isn't correct if this is the case you're going to have to get it programmed first before you can continue

Rafael Silva has this engine been service regularly can you see a lot of black lumps when you take the sump off because the bottom strainer could be blocked that allows oil to go to the top of the engine or if the oil has not been changed regularly they could be blocked oil passages with guns up oil
