  • The DJI FPV drone seems to be DJI's attempt to simplify the FPV hobby and create a consumer-friendly option that anyone can pick up and have maximum fun with minimal work. But is it actually as good as it seems? Here's what I think...

    You nailed it on every front. DJI heard consumers and gave them what they wanted: the FPV flying experience without the DIY hassle. I expect other FPV manufacturers to follow suit very quickly with “combos” that provide the essentials needed to fly minus the soldering equipment, software purchases, etc. Yes. Some people want to drive a stick but the vast majority of people just want to drive and to not have to constantly tinker under the hood. I would also think that if GoPro is paying attention, they’ll see there’s a huge opportunity here to partner with an FPV manufacturer. I love my DJI FPV. I practiced like crazy on a simulator but then found when I actually flew it, it was a BREEZE. This is a drone “newbies” can fly without fear. Expect a stampede of buyers.

    Pretty nicely covered! I'm really curious about a 2.0 of this. Better Handling, more durable/modular replaceability and with the 1" cam of the current mavic2 maybe... this would be a really awesome device. I'm pretty iffed about the rather bad camera quality given that cam looks pretty professional. This makes this drone a compromise that covers everything a little bit but nothing quite right - and so for each target area it's a worse choice than the competitors... A better cam would have maybe increased the price 100-200 bucks? Would have been worth it to tackle the cinematic FPV market which is the closest this drone can reach.

I can fly the maneuvers I need and have flown 3 paid gigs with it and my clients were very happy with the shots and video quality (at least they didn't say anything about it). My clients are looking for just some differentiating shots and the DJI FPV fits the bill for my needs. Agree that it doesn't pure out perform a traditional one and you are pretty much screwed if you take a hit.

I had an OG phantom 2 back in the day and modified it for FPV with a fat shark VTX and the good old fashioned black pearl monitor lol. I look at it like this. When people get licenses to fly planes, they buy quality planes. They don’t build their own planes. Having the GPS system, assisted flight, obstacle detection, and a pretty decent camera to me are like buying a high quality aircraft/plane. Instead of building one( who the fuck builds their own plane lol) maybe just me but I love DJI and I love my FPV. Great product, great drone, and overall just a great company. Drones:
      If you want to fly indoors, check out the Tiny Hawk 2 or the Mobula 7. The BetaFPV 85 Pro 2 is also a good alternative, but it's a little bit bigger/heavier
      If you want to fly outdoors, you can't go wrong with the Nazgul5 (v1 is cheaper). If you want something smaller, the Tiny Hawk 2 Freestyle won't disappoint too
      Radio:
      Buy the BetaFPV Lite Radio 2 SE, it's amazing as a starter radio and you can't beat the price to performance ratio. BetaFPV doesn't sell the non SE version anymore, but you can find it on AliExpress, and IMO it's way better because it supports OpenTX and you can modify it to add crossfire support. But if you just want something plug and play, the SE is great.
      Googles:
      Get the Eachine EV800D or EV800DM, they have a real Diversity receiver, not antenna Diversity like most cheap goggles.
      Charger:
      Don't buy the Hobbymate D6 duo pro yet, it's very expensive especially if you aren't hooked into the hobby and stop flying after a year. Buy an imax B6 instead, you can find it for $40-50 on Amazon or $20-30 on AliExpress and it can do everything (charge, discharge, storage, balancing) from 1S to 6S (it can even charge a car battery)
      If you add a couple of batteries and antennas, you should be around $400-500.
      Hope this helps

      @@MattPochwat they still didn't make it good maybe next one will be better. I dream about drone which combine both - long range with its convenience of folding and acro possibilities at the same time. This isn't the thing which does the job yet.

    The fpv is my very first drone.
    Because it is easy to get in with all the security assistance systems for crash prevention.
    Also I liked the sci-fi style of the goggles and that I can use it on my pc, if I can get it right with an AV-adapter X D
    For getting started, it is a nice choice. But the entry costs are high. So I got mine from ebay for 400 bucks less.
    including the 2 additional batteries.
    Maybe I will get the digidapter and a little cheaper fpv drone for indoors later on. So I dont have to replace the goggles.

    For me this is a good start from DJI into this world, but they still need to tune up several stuff: replacements, camera stabilization and goggles compatibilities with other models.... let's see in the next model how they perform... this one it is just too expensive for what it gives... Nice video though!!! ;)

    3:40 they don't give you longer flight time then normal lipos. They are heavier. And in my opinion they are way more dangerous then li-ion batteries. The only thing that is safer is the charging because you can't change the Amp and the plastic casing of course

  • @MannYgfx
    @MannYgfx Před 3 lety +1

    Good points, but I really think the price should be considered as a con too. Idk what the price of this quad inc flymore with 3 batteries and a couple sets of props will run you, but it's gotta be closing in on twice the price of a decent digital BNF setup. That's pretty insane considering the mediocre picture quality with props in view.

    • @MattPochwat
      @MattPochwat  Před 3 lety +3

      Well I think a lot of people out there are happy to pay a premium for convenience. Other DJI drones are equally expensive and those are incredibly popular. I agree, having props in view was a strange choice but luckily they can be removed with a slight crop.

    3:42 DJI got rid of lipos? are they coming for my lipos too? bro they just made a mediocre lipo with a BMS and self charging. Yes it's much more convenient and easy but performance vise it's not so great, longer flight times? you would have that with a classic fpv quad too if you just put a 2000mha 6s on it ofcorse. not to mention they are $150

  • @BigDuke6ixx
    @BigDuke6ixx Před 2 lety

    You seem confused about wind. The only times a quad isn't encountering wind during flight is when it's in the hover on a dead calm day or if it's flying down wind straight and level and the groundspeed equals the windspeed. The rest of the time the quad will be experiencing wind.

    It's not for me. I'm on a fixed income, and I'm a tech geek. Proprietary kit isn't my thing, and ease-of-operation out-of-the-box is secondary to me. My little 2S micro flies so well for me these days because of my input, not from a company's updates. I decide what to tweak, and what features and functions I wish to optimise. However, I'm not everybody. I can see it being the ideal solution for some people. But truth be told, it'll likely end up dust collector for most people, because of all the issues you mentioned.
