Udonis Haslem On His Off-Season Heat Meeting, Talking Trash, and Heat Culture

- During last year’s Summer League, a classic episode of The Long Shot was recorded with Udonis Haslem. So it’s only right that he joins the guys again for the reunion.
He talks about his off-season meeting with Heat staff, his future in Miami and what he still has to offer, his diet, and getting “brainwashed” by Heat culture.
The guys also talk gambling, Mario Kart, and how UD’s “antenna” still goes up in certain situations. - Sport
Ud be giving me samuel L jackson vibes at time 😂
Everytime 🤣🤣🤣👍🏾
Word he gotta say mothafucka more
Frfr
UD really said "Pateeks" 😂 Never change OG
Great episode. UD is a legend. He’s out here real af not afraid to talk about the truth about race, business, mental health. He’s a real hero to a kid from Miami like me. Cheers!
So thankful for this! Great show guys. UD is the greatest Heat Lifer we could hope for. I grew up like he did and is why I respect him so much, I am a year older but he is a real OG!
Lets GO HEAT NATION! Great episode guys!
Love hearing from the OG UD!!!
UD should have his own podcast show after he retires.
UD is the man!!! I don't understand why people say such things without knowing what is really going on in close doors, his role off court, etc! I'm glad he doesn't give a damn about these people!
UD is one of my favourites ever.
yes --- another UD podcast --- the legend!
NEEDED these vibes today!!! So happy to see this notification of the pod dropping
Greatest podcast yet. If Udonis isn’t going to be the next coach for the Miami heat, what position is he going to take? Are they going to make up some role for him and keep him on a player salary? I’m really curious where they take this next.( notes: Miami is developing undrafted talent to fill key “role players” around allstar players)
Director of Player Development maybe
Heat legends UD and Duncan Robinson
Episode 1 with UD was my favorite episode… Love the pod fellas!
The 2 best pods in my personal opinion has been with UD! Straight Miami legend!
UD does not shy away from the “smoke” that’s for sure. But do you think he’s ever told James Johnson he could whoop his ass? 😂😂
The best Birthday gift was waking up to see a new episode of the Long Shot Pod🎉
I respect Haslem because he's basically been an assistant coach for like 8 years but he still gets paid like a player. My man fleecing the system!!
He only gets like 2 million
@@reasedogable only lol
Another dose of OG!!!

Duncan u remember me ? 4 midtown finest right here the legend continues
Love d this one!!
9:00 So just a heads up - if you double your bet every time you lose at blackjack, you either go broke by losing a bunch of hands in a row (and it doesn't take as many as you might think, even on NBA money) or you quit when you're up a little bit. In the long, long run, doubling your bet whenever you lose is basically the statement "my bankroll is bigger than the house's", which is pretty risky even with a $90 million contract.
_For those who don't know, the strategy Duncan is talking about at __9:00__ is that you bet some relatively small amount on a hand of blackjack, and if you lose the hand, you double the bet and go again. You're effectively doing a "double or nothing" every time you lose, so you just double or nothing until you win then go back to betting small. Repeat until bored._
Let's say you're betting $100 (I'm NBA players bet more, but I really have no idea what NBA players do with their absurd money; Duncan was just talking about how wearing a Rolex and driving a Tesla is basically the bare minimum, so I have no frame of reference). The bet-doubling strategy means every win nets you $100 and losses get wiped out unless you go bankrupt. So in a few hours you're very likely to be up a few thousand dollars, which is great except for the fact that you play in the NBA and don't need the money, like, at all. You already drive a Tesla and wear a Rolex.
Doubling your bet after every loss, however, does come with a downside: you leave open the possibility that you get incredibly unlucky and go bankrupt. Repeatedly doubling your losses adds up _fast._ If you're betting $100 and you lose 4 hands in a row you're down $1,500. No problem for a high roller like you. You lose 4 more in a row and you're down $25,500. Pocket change! You lose 4 more in a row and you're down $409,500. That's starting to look like actual money. 4 more and you're down $6,553,500. That's...maybe a problem. Lose the next hand - which is worth $6,553,600, if the casino will even entertain such a bet - and you might just be out of money, period. If you're a _real_ high roller maybe it takes a couple more losses, but not many. The odds of this happening are quite small (about 0.0016% if we treat each hand as a coin flip, which isn't quite right but is close enough for this example) but not zero, while your upside is not much and your downside is catastrophic. And if you ever chicken out after, say, 10 lost hands in a row, your lifetime gains from this strategy will be entirely wiped out. If you do like Duncan does and set a loss limit (always a good idea when gambling), it's quite likely that you'll eventually just lose a few in a row, hit your limit and bust out.
I've never understood the emotional appeal of this strategy. All the big hands are you hitting a coin flip to avoid disaster (or not...), while you try to nickel and dime the casino to death. Where's the fun in that? Why gamble when all the big exciting stuff is you maybe getting destroyed but never you winning a truckload of money? I'm not a gambler so maybe I just don't get it, but to me the tiny dopamine hits you get from winning $100 and feeling smart aren't worth it. Maybe you think you're outsmarting the casino by having a working knowledge of precalculus, and that's worth...something, I guess? If you want to have actual fun gambling, play roulette or craps or something exciting (the expected value on those games is generally around the same as blackjack _(craps is a little better, roulette is a little worse)_ but you can get a big win, call it a day, and hit the buffet and a show feeling great. There are no big wins with the bet-doubling blackjack strategy, just a million tiny wins and the occasional catastrophic loss. Don't try to nickel and dime a casino to death when you could be having fun.
Also: I love when you have Udonis on, he's great. He's full of wisdom, speaks his mind honestly, and seems like a cool dude.
The bet-doubling strategy relies on the fact that every successive term in the series 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + ... is 1 more than the combined sum of all the previous terms.
If you're willing to go double or nothing after every loss, you're essentially challenging the casino to a bankroll-measuring contest every time you lose a hand, and if it gets extreme enough, you're basically saying the casino will bust before you do. The problem is that you can't actually bust the casino because your many, many wins are all small and their one win is huge. You're better off just putting your money in a money market account and earning interest. It'd probably be more fun, too.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is don't do the bet-doubling strategy. And Duncan, if by some miracle you read this, you're gambling correctly by having a loss limit and stopping when you hit it. Keep doing that. You might try stopping when you're up some of the time, though.
valid point all the way. might i just add that when the player wins via blackjack he gains 2.5 of his bet so it's not merely your base bet that you win EVERYTIME. and if you do happen to blackjack when you are far into your doubling, you gain a lot.
Love UD man
bro y'all gotta speak into your mics or up the sensitivity or something, like half of what you say is at a different audio level than the the other half.
other than that love your content
The need to level the audio through a compressor or something
I love you Duncy poo ❤️
Cool studio
UD is your OG's favorite OG
UD!!!!!!! 🐐🐐
UD the GOAT
Miami Senior High Legend!
UD the Nick Collison of the East. Old respected vet who's been on one team his whole career. I expect that he's not an assistant coach (yet) because he can still knock around those young dudes in practice and toughen them up. I'm sure that's part of his value, as the Heat are the hardest playing, borderline dirty team in the NBA. I say this as a Sixers fan who despises the Heat, but like Embiid, I knew that the Sixers needed some of that nastiness on our team ... so we straight up stole PJ Tucker from 'em!
i love pj (heat fan) but the 3rd year was too many. i believe he’ll hold up for all 3, idk if i’d bet on it though.
@@kaleb324 Yes, he was huge for you guys and I'm hoping he will contribute in similar ways for my Sixers. But man, 3 years? I would have preferred a two year deal at age 37!
All Morey gotta do is get back the Houston guys that worked well for him and can play with Embiid. Timberwolves and Cavs are developing their Twin Towers. But Tucker is probably the best glue guy who can work with that group. He won a chip with the Bucks playing that key big man role.
🔥🔥🔥
UD is a smart man. I always say "We should all be selfless but to be truly selfless, you must be selfish first.".
How can you be selfless if you are not showing people the best version of yourself, that you can be?
You can't, so you have to look after yourself first & that is (sadly) considered inherently selfish.
I am awful at taking my own advice, I am not a smart man.
U.D has to go on the pivot that episode would be lit. And next year will be our year. #HeatNation
Dade County Don Dada UD!!
Did i just witness Duncan talk himself from a healthy gambling attitude to the approach of every addict ever? :D ....but what if the next pod is THE ONE???? :D
Davis its called Beerio Kart
Ud the og
Miami to Orlando is 3.5 hours. How fast was he driving to Gainesville?
I was thinkin’ the same thing lol Miami to Gainesville is at least a 6hr drive
Hold up, 4:07, Gainsville is 7 hours from Miami
Uh oh, Duncan about to lose that $90 Mil trying to run the Martingale System on a casino 🤣
duncan changes his voice whenever haslem is on the pod lol
Gainesville definitely like a 8 hour drive from Miami
Duncan ROBINSON IS A BEST MIAMI HEAT PLAYER. IF HE WILL TRADED AT ANY TEAM, IM STILL LOVE THIS GUY AND ALSO CHANGE MY TEAM.
lesgoooo
He is so Florida 😂😂
Can we get KD on the pod? 👀👀👀
UD deserves to have his jersey retired and in my opinion is one of the most loyal players of all time asides from dirk and Kobe and MJ (for the exception of the wizards) UD legit was so loyal to Miami
Bro Duncan using that contract money well
You need to ensure your guests are Miked up properly!
wish i had jeep wrangler
Miami to Gainesville is 4 hrs minimum.... You are speeding your ass off if you get to UF in 3.5 hours
know what i’m saying count - too many lmao
Duncan seems like the WHITEST dude on this podcast talking to UD hahaha
Udonis the OLD person Haslem
So how has the gambling changed? Y'all just started talking about cars and never finished the gambling part...
they can just gamble with the odds in the nba. they could easily win.
Love the Pod, but the take on the gambling was way off. These Games are calculated to the max. The House will always win. Even when you play Blackjack 100% optimal the house wins and you only have like a 98% Rate of Return. So it is possible to win in short terms but longterm and talking about "endless" funds means you will always lose
Do you notice what’s one thing in common on JJ Redick, Draymond Green, Matt Barne, CJ McCollum, all of their podcasts? They don’t have their own highlights as intro, nor plaster their faces frame after frame, that shit is cringy.
What’s up with Davis 👀👀🤣 buddy looks star struck or he looks like he ain’t been that close to a black dude in his life
Nice interview too bad you are going to get traded this year.
Duncan and UD got real close when Duncan spent all that time on the bench next to him during the playoffs 🤣
🤦🏾♂️
Minus 1
@@TheMiamirep 😂
😭😭😭😭
lmao facts man got his starting spot snagged by max strus , we want less podcasts n more 3 pointers
Duncan 🤦♂️. That’s just not even remotely close to how probability works. Please nobody take this gambling advice lmao
Making a lot of money to sit on the bench and decided to do a podcast instead of working on your game smh
imagine making 90 million just to make podcasts 😂😂max strus took ur starting spot 🗑🗑
The heat paid this dude 90 million to do podcasts. Dude fell OFF after the bubble
Salt ain't gonna do shit. Get over it, or how about, stay positive.
ur not wrong 😂🤣he fell all the way off he needs to layoff the podcasts and get in the gym
@@Hydra_X9K_Music getting paid 90 mill to warm the bench
Had over 300 3s last season. Fastest NBA player to 700 3s ever!!!
Udonis is so annoying. Get this guy off the roster and open up a spot for a young guy who’s been working all his life to climb out of the trenches. This guy is just greedy coasting on the bench for a paycheck. UD is easily one of the worst players in the league in the current moment
U clearly don’t know basketball Kyle🤦🏾♂️
@@resource-7628 I actually do. I’m saying in the current moment he sucks. He averaged 6 mins a game with 2 points and less than 2 boards. That’s up there for one of the worst in the league. He needs to retire and open up a spot for a young player. You’re clearly just a heat bandwagon
@@kyle3860 I’m not a heat fan lmao. Also u he helps the team by not playing and being a leader right. He’s the heat culture
