People forget that guys like Yao and Shaq used to be very mobile/agile when they were younger and skinnier but gradually put on more weight to compete against each other. But in today's league that's more pace oriented, those guys probably stay leaner and are still able to play at a faster pace.

yeah Yao never had to do that lol. Shaq didnt put on weight to compete with anyone, did you watch him when he played for Dale Brown in LSU? You're just saying stuff to say stuff. Yao maybe coulda been the greatest ever same as Shaq. It didnt happen, careers went different, injuries, personalities. Shaq and Yao would both struggle to play defense in todays league. But im not sure the league would be what it is, if Shaq was in it. Yes he's a defensive liability, but he also could score 100 points every game if you don't stop him. Shaq is and was an anomoly and there's maybe 100 guys in the NBA books that had no business being there. They were there as guys who could foul and try to body Shaq. In todays game, no one could stop Shaq and Shaq couldn't stop most 4 or 5 guys. It would be interesting.

They could also do stuff with him that not a lot of traditional centers could. Instead of putting him in the low post ALL the time, they could play him in the pick-and-roll at the elbow with a guard or a small forward and either get a free drive (if the center stayed on Yao) or get a high percentage jumper at the foul line with Yao shooting over someone a foot shorter than he was. @@JinghisKhan naw, just dump it down to him. Wide open jumpers, layups/dunks inside, other team's depth gone with fouls trying to stop him, and wide open 3s at every as the defense would naturally HAVE to collapse into the paint automatically just to stop him. Who needs pick and roll when what you generate from that happens automatically on catch with one pass into the post?? Fast break, he's shooting threes as trailer. Center guarding him to defend, even if he gets there is 6 inches shorter than him. Yao literally has all day to set up, catch, roll the ball in his hands to line up with groove of the ball, and release. Lol.
They'd have the number one offense in the league. Oh, and he passes the ball like jokic (maybe a little better), defends the paint much better (no layups/dunks for the other team). So ur first center gets two fouls n then the back up comes in and the back up needed to be the same size n talented or else n then u need a third. So now where u can have a center n two small ball centres who shoot 3s that’s not happening because u need 3 real centres. So ur not having all the wings that u want because Shaq is around. Depending if the coach is an idiot or not they feed them the ball every trip down and 2 point the other team to death because the other team will not hit every 3 and will play small ball meaning you'll have a 6'6 center trying to stop a 7 foot 1 350 pound monster trust me if there were a couple of big men out there who were capable of playing half as dominant as shaq the league would revert back to what it was because you'd have teams looking for bigs just to throw at these particular bigs

Im an old schooler nba fan from the 80's. Im a rockets fan also, people tend to forget though that the suns started the small ball while yao was playing and yao struggled with the fast pace, he would get tired by the first half. The suns dominated the rockets. Now the whole league is like that. Yao and shaq wouldnt have problems offensivly but they could not keep up with today's nba defensively. You got seven footers playing at the three point line, there is no post game anymore. Again the pace is too fast they would struggle keeping up. Now Hakeem would thrive into todays nba because of his freak quickness

Shaq would be just as dominant in todays game. I actually don't think he'd be all that MORE dominant though, despite the advantagea playing in thisberanwouldngive him.
Shaq's work ethic regarding professional basketball is the only thing that ever really stopped him. He was lazy and didn't work hard enough on staying NBA ready. He's said it himself.
That wouldn't have changed regardless of what era he played in.
    It's just who he is.
Shaq has always been more than a basketball player. Basketball os just what he did. It doesn't define him.
That's what makes him so different than his peers and the many othr NBA greats.

How it would've went is, Shaq would've gone to the line 20 times, Rudy would've fouled out, Shaq would've had 48pts, 18 rebounds and would've went 12/20 from free throws....Oh and Kobe would've had 36pts only cus he would've taken a backseat to feed the Big Fella all night and watch him DESTROY Rudy. Hakeem was the only big man in Shaq's career that can say that he one up'ed the big fella but that was more mental and experience than anything else.
