Ahahaha yes This game would've been better if it changed its entire story and its powers and instead we played as darius, don't need to be in the assassins order to have that feel
The Legacy of the First Blade DLC ties into the proto-assassins and gives more backstory to the philosophical and political conflict that will become the Assassins vs Templars. Yeah it's cheap they make you pay more just to connect Odyssey to the series but whatever. I like the DLC. Imo it works better as an 'origins' story than actual AC Origins, which had a terrible story
Playing as Darius would've been the obvious and easy solution, but really it would've ruined the mystique of his character. I like Darius better as a side character, this wise but mysterious mentor for Kassandra/Alexios who you have kinship with on account of both being 'tainted ones' despite being so different in every other way. The dynamic with player and Darius was cool. I wouldnt have changed it
@@reality_is_sin the story is objectively terrible. The concept is good, but the excecution is godawful, for reasons I could literally write a book on. Here's a few examples I was able to pull from my head in just a few minutes: -the use of 'in media res'. This narrative technique can work in a novel or movie, but it doesn't work here in a video game in which you as the player need to understand you motivations for doing what you do. More than any AC game, you're made to feel like a passive spectator of events, rather than a prime mover. Bayek is often sidelined by Aya, which only adds to his passivity as a protagonist. Bayek's character has potential, but the writers can't seem to decide if they want him to be a smiling and likeable family man or a dark, brooding menace, so they try both, and it fails. I just can't buy this guy as being super traumatized by his son's death when one minute later he's laughing drinking beer with his friends. The socio-political aspect of the story has absolutely NO subtlety or nuance. Greeks = Bad, Romans = Bad, native Egyptians = superstitious but sympathetic idiots, everyone except Aya and Bayek = Bad. The entire story rests on your motivation to avenge Khemu, but since his death isn't revealed until about an hour into the game, you have no idea what you're supposed to be fighting. Even then, my sympathy for a character whose only reason to exist in the story being to die is hardly enough of a motivating factor to care. Bayek is motivated to avenge Khemu because, by stabbing him in the heart, he can't enter the field of reeds in the afterlife. This would be an interesting motivating factor, except the story doesn't explain it to you, and you would have no understanding of its significance unless you were familiar with ancient Egyptian religion. Even if you were, the story doesn't explore it. Speaking of that, the guilt that Bayek should feel over being the one to wield the knife is never explored. He externalises all of his anger towards the Order, making him seem more deranged than anything. Nothing wrong with having an antihero, but the narrative doesn't explore this conundrum. Bayek absolutely chews the scenery during the assassination memory corridors. It's as if the game is afraid I won't empathise with him for losing his son (mission accomplished, i didn't) so they have him go completely overboard with vengeful rage. An example of the writing's tell-not-show writing. The writers should allow the player to form our own empathy of Bayek's situation instead of having it rammed down our throat. AC2 dealt with grief much better - as you collect feathers for your brother, you legitimately felt that sense of loss on your own. Origin's writers have no time for subtlety. Ptolemy is supposed to be the big bad guy, but the story absolutely makes no use of him, reducing him to a pathetic, ineffectual version of King Joffrey that accomplishes nothing. Various scenes that feel as if they should be meaningful and epic, are not. For example, when Bayek gets the hidden blade, it's just like 'kay, cool, thanks for that'. Where's the sense of wonder and adventure we see in every other AC game? This whole story is just far too bleak and cynical for its own good. Speaking of that, the whole formation of the Brotherhood is glossed over so quickly. All of a sudden Bayek has all these people on his side and there you go, brotherhood formed. This was supposed to be the main purpose of the story, instead the majority of the story is Bayek screaming at people and Cleopatra wanting a throne. If you want a really good video that summarises what's wrong with Origin's story, watch Alien Platypus video "What Assassin's Creed Origins failed to understand"
Fun fact: homosexuality was actually not officially outlawed in ancient Greece as it would later be with the rise of the Abrahamic religions, so the option to make your character gay or lesbian is technically historically accurate. In fact, the very word lesbian is derived from the Greek island of Lesbos, where a female poet named Sappho expressed her love for other women.

Kassandra had ISU blood, and is an ancestor to Aya/Amunet, who created the Hidden Ones (that would eventually become the assassins) , and Eivor also had ISU blood, and helped Hytham clear the rest of the order of ancients, and that led to the beginning of the TEMPLAR ORDER, also Hytham was one of the very first ASSASSINS in the game lore.
