As an English as a second language I had to search that. Thankfully, Urban Dictionary came to the rescue one more time! Cattywhompus Off-kilter, odd, disorderly, not quite right, bizarre. When I take a shower right before bed, my hair is all cattywhompus when I wake up. Thanks! Got it! Wonderful word.
This is the best welding practice starting trainees do, by the time you have done several of these plate exercises you are starting to master striking the arc, arc length control and weld deposit consistancy, I spent a week on this exercise alone but invaluable start to weld training.
Another great video ! That’s just how I learned practice -practice -practice , pass after pass, making stop & starts seamless, watching this video & still learning! Great job Matt & Weldtube 👍🏽💯
Very cool. I haven't struck an arc since 1996 when I was finishing high school. For the 6010, I usually did small tiny circles which helped me out tremendously. "Zig zagging" it also works very well too.
Watching videos from the US made me realised we have shitty welding schools and instructors here in the Philippines. I cannot build muscle memory with limited time and and resources and almost non existent input from the instructor. It's like they're just there for the sake of being there. Better buy my own equipment and have unlimited practice. What I'm after in welding school is the "national certificate" Cant have a job without those.
Hi there. Ya'll videos have helped me a lot. Can you guys make a video on a pipe root but with ER70S-2 please. I can do it with -6 but for some reason I just can't seem to get a nice bead with this rod. I'm trying to pass a weld test for a job. TIA
I noticed that you are not dragging the stick but kinda doing a drag push and drag again and im kinda confused because everything i look up says to drag with slag other wise you might push slag into weld, so the welds you are doing look great and i wanna try doing it this way but just wondering if when you go back forward for that split second after you drag, does that push slag inclusion into the puddle? Is it better to just do one continuose drag, vs the push and pull technique?
Not many people talk about the physical feeling of the tip of the burning rod as it relates to the plate or pipe. The arc shots of the 6010 rod was golden. How close do you get to the plate with the 7018? Too far away you feel nothing. Should you get a light feedback from the rod?
You don't physically feel it in your fingers you friggen chin strap! Are you referring to some mild sensation of electricity? How close you hold the rod to the puddle reflects penetration and weld quality. You want to be as close as you can but you wont be tingling like you do when you wear your tin foil hat on the metal roof of your tree fort during thunderstorms. Dont reproduce. Dont speak. Make yourself scarce. Save yourself a lot of pain.
@@jimdeck8670 what are you talking about? You know that feedback you feel on the stinger when you tap a 6010 when welding an open root on pipe or plate? You can feel the flux scrubbing off?
are there any precautions to take as a welder for your long term health? masks for fumes? obviously you want a good brand mask to protect your eyes, good safety gear. But are there dangers to eyesight, lunghealth and anything else i may not be thinking of?

I'm intermediate at most in the world of welding, but I always find myself coming back to basics. Especially for this video, thank you so much.
I'm a freshman in high school and my school has a great welding class and its by far the best thing I've done in school
Mega points for using that classically precise term: "Cattywhompus"
One of my favorites. 👍

@@danl.4743 "antigogglin" and "whopperjawed" are useful synonyms. But cattywhompus is the variant I grew up saying. The others I learned later on. 🙂
It's a great video for learning stick welding🔥🔥
I envy the students who learn welding at South coast welding academy👍👍.
Hooray for Weldtube! 😎😎

Just gotta say you are much more helpful than my welding instructor at my college. Thanks for the tips dig and Fill I like it!
