    What do you do with the spray gun while each coat is drying? Is it necessary to clean it in between coats?

    Pro tip: Put your isopropyl alcohol into a spray bottle and use in conjunction with a soft bristle toothbrush. Cleans everything really well and doesn't leave any fibers or residue.

      @golferchin76 Před 4 lety

      for liquid masking just use water, as it is water based. using alcohol can cause some brands of masking to suddenly clog up as they are not purely water based. Some contain latex and alcohol can cause problem. also instead of tooth brush, use painter's 'round pointed tip' poly brush (5-7mm diameter). Round pointed tip poly brush also works really well in cleaning airbrush with heavy tool cleaner solvent (petroleum based) without melting.

    Been doing this for two years following this video and will throw in a tip - filter the mask with a screen (I use a shaped screen for sink drains) before loading the paint gun and it will clog much less.

      I'm glad that it has helped! I haven't been painting that much lately. I did however move away from the smaller spray gun in the video. The needle was too small to handle any lumps that formed in the masking liquid. I just use the standard 1.3 mm gun that is available at harbor freight stores for $15.00. Hope that helps!

    Sooo... I would like to see you CUT out the shape - What is your technique for cutting through the mask.... but not cut into the body!? I've never done Liquid mask for a Lexan body.... but would think the cut lines would partially compromise the body a little bit?? I'm sure a lite touch - but I would like to watch you cut it out!? Also - Hair dryer is a little safer and more forgiving for drying - as opposed to a Heat Gun. Thanks for sharing!

    I have a three color process that I want to do. So my question is, after you paint your first color, can you spray the mask over what you painted so you can peel the mask off to do the next color. Will it pull the first color or be fine doing that? No body so far has addressed that. Thanks, good video.

      (When at all possible) the best way to do it would be to cut out your full design before any painting but only remove each layer as you complete the previous revealing the fresh area for the following layer. It will peel off just fine, even after paint is on it.

    • @onpointrc6299
      @onpointrc6299  Před 7 lety

    • @golferchin76
      @golferchin76 Před 4 lety

      You can find exact HVLP spray gun in Amazon for 12.89. It has only 1 tip size which is 0.8mm. It is good enough because Bob Dively liquid mask is quite fluid, unlike other brands some can be quite thick, then you need to use higher pressure. (or you can premix some water)
      A heat gun is really helpful. (Actually like necessary)
      you can check out Bittydesign's video czcams.com/video/G4fDHgVRJmU/video.html
      This is probably the only company in the world that does professional RC car body stuffs now. At 1:03 it says they use 1.4mm needle size at 3.5 BAR. I use their liquid masking it looks thicker than Bob Dively but it works really well it doesn't tear off or peel off for no reason at all which can run your paint job.
