- With only 8000 residents and a wealth of natural resources the island of Molokai represents a place with great potential for sustainable living. In fact, many residents are already utilizing this potential in creative ways.
Molokai faces some difficult challenges, like dependency on oil, a need for imported goods, and a high cost of living. Can Molokai overcome these obstacles and become a truly sustainable community?
Visit with families and businesses on Molokai that practice sustainability and see how it benefits them and their community. Learn how some pursue sustainability through new technologies while others find it through ancient Hawaiian practices.
This piece tells us why Hawaii is the greatest state in the Union and offers hope. Years ago, living in the islands, I learned that the residents of Molokai refused to embrace large scale corporate tourism as a solution to high costs of living and jobs. This tiny but astoundingly beautiful place is an example and inspiration.
Hoping Molokai can stay pristine for long time. We no need another Oa'hu. Maui is already on its way to becoming another Oa'hu.
Nice video with a wonderful educational lesson for all of us on Molokai. Mahalo for producing this!
Thank you for sharing your kindness
My wife and I living for 25 years (2023) on the Big Island, feeling, our island culture is “losing it”, how far away are we from the Waikiki lifestyle, we are not sure if our island is still pono. We’ve never been to the island of Molokai, I don’t know why, perhaps, I would like to feel an intruder myself ? We would very much appreciate any recommendations from the people of Molokai, what the appropriate way is, to experience this unique island and culture . Mahalo nui

I am aware that Molokai is the least " tourist- ey" of the bigger islands... But isn't tourism the main source of income? I hope that it can retain its pristine natural state. I am aware of pineapple and coconut plantations there and a wildlife reserve.
Very nice content! ❤️💛💚🫶🏼🦁🦁🦁

MO-lo-kye or mo-lo-kah-EE ???
1st one
It's the second one
Considering the host pronounced it the second way I would go with that one.
When in doubt about a Hawaiian pronunciation go to wehewehe.org
Mo-lo-kai
A friend of mine suggested build nuclear power plants in the state instead of burning coal
Or wind farm

Get over the damn plastic, take a damn basket!

The deer they hunt aren't native to Hawaii and destroy crops and native plants. If no one hunted them they would overrun the island.
@@adepja It's Sustainable and local food source. your right
A good place to bring some recent African and Somali refugees after just crossing the border from Mexico. We will need all available space to house these people and Hawaiians must do their part in welcoming these Muslim immigrants.
Very funny, wise guy! (sarcastic point well made) :D
I’m white, can I visit?
