One stick bow drill challenge

- I was challenged to do the one stick bow drill challenge by Gray Durgan, this is going to be hard. Apart from not doing the bow drill I have just about started friction fire with the hand drill, then there is the materials. I’m not familiar with tree species in the U.K. so I had to adapt and try what I thought was appropriate.
I found this piece of ivy at the farm washed down by the river and that was it. Friction fire skills are essential to any outdoorsman and challenges like this offer an opportunity to push ourselves to learn new skills and practice the skills we lost. I was going to do this challenge at the farm but hard work late nights and weather did not let me. The lavvu in the garden was as best as it was going to get. Equipped with a Laplander, my knife, a small cheep firebox and some paracord I set off to achieve this as best as I could. Why not take the challenge and try it for yourself, please subscribe like and comment down below. All the best Alex
If you would like to get featured send me a DM or use the #beeknowledge in the comments, challenge me to a task or a skill and I’ll feature your video on my channel. Why not try this challenge you never know what you can achieve. Thank you Gray for the challenge it was awesome.
Fire by friction (bow/hand drill) can test people and proves to be harder than you imagine. Anyone that perseveres and does it like you did gets my respect.

Well done mate, still working on when you challanged me the other week. Found 1 plastic bag so far 😂. All the best mate, hope you are well.
Kuukkeli Bushcraft 🤣 buddy it’s ok no need to go to the end of the world for it. Nice to hear from you again all the best 💪💪
You make the hand drill seem so easy. I just tried knocking up a set to try one. My hands blistered quick....how do you stop that or do I just have soft hands....lol.
Yes, it looks easy and it is once you master the technique but it has taken months of blistered hands, sore arms and failed attempts. Saying all that, getting your first ember is an amazing feeling and it does not stop feeling any less every time you succeed. Keep trying and you will get there 💪
I have also found that paracord cannot handle the friction of the drill. What other cordage would you suggest which could work better?
Adam Craig as I said in the video I’m more of a hand drill man but I believe leather is good or natural material cord
Can use your shoe lace 👌🏻
