- Alabama angler David Kilgore shares his tips on fishing with a Strike King Swim N Shiner (wired2.fish/StrikeKingSwimNsh...) and why he likes a more finesse swimbait, especially in clear water. He covers getting it to depth, how to make sure you're fishing it effectively and more.

I watched this a couple times this past year. Just to remind me to keep it simple!!! I've never had another lure show out for me better than a simple swimbait rigged like this. I primarily use the Strike King Rage Tail ones. I tend to get to overthinking...so I come back to this video! Thank you for it.

I like the caffeine shad so much more than the newer swimbait Strike King came out with.
I like how you fish. Keep it simple.

I like the way you tell it ! Just keep it simple. I don't subscribe a lot but, I just did 👍🏻💯
Good stuff! Thank you for sharing.
Favorite way to fish a swimbait👍🔥🎣
I just moved recently to a town right on Kentucky Lake. I've been fishing for many years when I lived in Illinois and never caught a bass.
I went out this weekend and bought a bunch of swimbaits, hoping that I'll get my first bass soon! This video really helped me understand how I need to fish this lure.
catch anything?
@@jimmyrogers7494 Nope...haven't even gotten a bite since June, despite fishing like once a week...
@@KermitTheGamer21 Ouch ... Since June?? How about now, not a single bite?
@@heyneedhelp8266 Still no...I'm going fishing on a river from a boat this weekend though, right as the fall bite is supposed to get going, so I think I might have decent chances this time.
@Joel Setyo I caught some white bass and pike on swimbaits but no bass of the green or brown variety. I have caught a good largemouth but it was with a nightcrawler while I was bluegill fishing lol
thanks for the simple explanation, so many baits out their and boutique baits for 50.00 each, this is more my speed, grew up fishing with Manns Jelly worms!
Me, too! I actually got to MEET Tom Mann when I was 5! What a great guy...
I learned some good tips thanks!
My go too swimbait for sure
Great video thanks this is the way I fish in back bay fishing thanks
great video..right to the point..no goofy commentary
Wonderful video!
Thanks Anthony. An oldie but timeless advise.
Easiest way for me to k ow it at the bottom is wait...simple and then reel in..
great video. Thank you!
Very good information! Great underwater video
Thanks 👍👍👍!
I agree with you!!!! Simple is always better!!!!!!!
thank you for sharing👍
Can you use a normal leadhead jig with these? I fish a lot of rocky places for walleyes......I loose a TON of leadheads slow rolling and just barely coming in contact with the rocks/concrete chunks that form the reefs in our lake. Losing an expensive jighead just doesn't sit well with me, haha.
right on david keep it simple
I’ve got a Duckett inshore. It’s just FINE 😉👍🏻🎣
Excellent video. I have a place on Ky Lake. Liked and subscribed
Thanks for the video, subscribed! What rod power and action is best suited for this technique
I love swim baits
very good video.
Thanks buddy makes sense!
You bet!
sick swimbait!

Look up down south lures. I pulled out 20 bass in about a few hours on white ice

ammazing fishing in 2014 . nice trik and tips
Beautiful lake, where is that?
Texas BowHunter Kentucky lake
nice vid. thank u
I use trailer hooks on swimbaits in the river
Doesn’t sink rate change as water pressure and temperature change? Or is this one of those close enough is close enough things?
Not much of a factor with a bait like this (lead head jig, decent fall rate). On the other hand, it can be a big factor with a jerkbait, especially when you're trying to achieve neutral buoyancy.
Throw the bite until reaches 10 fight
Good video thanks👍🏿
How about vertical jigging? Seem like a good lure for that.
It works when fishing vertically but a paddle tail swimbait performs better on a retrieve. The challenge is keeping the bait horizontal -- the knot will usually slide toward the jig head under the weight of the plastic, forcing the plastic in more of an angled or vertical position. A straight-tailed fluke type plastic performs better overall when fished vertically as the tail doesn't need movement in the water column to appear natural.
I've been convinced after trying many lures that 'natural' anything is not something causes a fish to strike more. In fact the lure in the video moves like nothing in nature and seems to be used more as a trolled bait. I've uses that design both vertical and horizontal same as a skirted jig and trailer and found both presentations useful. As far the knot slipping back, a twice wound clinch knot keep it in place or even a loop knot if a forward knot is valued. The swimbait design is a good one and I've caught fish on the three sizes I pour using a jighead with exposed hook, not happy with a wide gap hook's misses. Thanks for the video.
When I reel in my swimbaits it starts to make an arch and starts to flip over and pull through the water oddly instead of a straight line towards me? What's up with that?
It’s critical to thread the hook straight down the body of the swim bait. You’re prolly off to one side or the other slightly.
Can anyone suggest a size keitech super round tungsten for a 3" easyshiner keitech ?
Open hook doesn’t work in the sticks and stumps. Weedless all the way for me.
how do i get or where can i buy your shirt??
I'm WIRED 2 FISH!
I Always go with the smaller paddle tails you just get a lot of action
I like the small ones for better hookups.
What gear ratio is good for swimbaits?
Anywhere from ~ 6.2:1 to 7.5:1 performs well -- this range of ratios is fast enough, yet not too fast.
My was the 1000 like.
👏🏾👏🏾
Look like a shakey head hook you was using with that line tie
Not a shakey head. Looks like a regular round jighead
..it ain't brain surgery..lol
Robert Allen why are you watching the video then.

great video, your accent tho, lol cheers mate
I deeply truely envy fisherman who have the luxury of fishing a swim bait using a fully exposed hook year round as it is a utterly deadly presentation
Unfortunately in the lakes I do 90% of my fishing in only from about early to mid March to late April can I fish a swim bait using a bare hook and then I absolutely must keep it near the surface of the weed growth
Come end of April early May its weedless T-Rigged presentations or reel in a coffee can sized clump of weeds 8/10 casts
Don't get me wrong I do exceptionally well on T-rigged flukes and swimbaits all year long but I really miss the 90-95 hookup ratio of a bare hook like with using a chatterbait or jig head or under spin jig head.
Ona dock. Ona ledge.ona bank. Ona beach. Ona pond. Ona lake. Ona ...........
Boy I tell ya wut
If your fishing in weeds and junk, go weedless..you will catch just as many fish. That's mostly all I use here in Louisiana swamp grass
You got a cool accent.
Why thank ya!
Anybody else have the overwhelming need for a dip?? And I have never chewed tobacco in my life. 😆
If you want to know we're the fish at. First get a lure. And keep it at a certain depth. Know one is for real. Fish can be anywhere.
That's a crappie jig.
big bass will turn into a freight train on this thing.
Reel it in on a medium retrieve and give it a dead stop for half a reel turn and continue your retrieve. Also a good pop in the middle of your retrieve with the rod tip in the middle of your retrieve can produce big bass.
So you get more fishing time getting hug up and breaking off with an exposed hook than you do fishing weedless?
Joshua Tyler that’s how u break a line when it’s snagged
Joshua Tyler 🤷🏽♂️ that’s just how I usually break my line free when I get snagged 😂
Joshua Tyler lol nah idk. I was just curious, I wasn’t trying to say ur way doesn’t work 😂
I understand this rigging method if in open water or fishing deep structure. But if I'm fishing laydowns up shallow I'm rigging mine weedless

i was looking for this comment LMFAOOO
I absolutely love fishing swimbaits. What I don't love is the horrible hook up and losing ratio of most swimbaits. You can get a hundred bites but if you only get 1 in the boat it doesn't matter. I'll take a zoom superfluke on a 5/0 gamakatsu superline hook anyday. Easy 95 percent hook up and land ratio. I've never lost one on a fluke missed only a few
Complicated shirt, simple fishing
Is it me or does that shirt make the video look CNN'd?
I am convinced that swimbaits are useless in dirty water. I have caught many fish with swim baits in cleaner lakes. At High Rock which is the dirtiest water that I have ever seen, I have caught two fish with swimbaits in 6 years of trying.
( kiss ) method - (K)eep (i)t (s)imple (s)tupid. 👍🏻
Funny hiw much better these type of baits work tgan expensive hard baits
Each have a time and place but there's no question these finesse swimbaits work well a lot of the time. The jerk jerk PAUSE of jerkbait can definitely outproduce swimbaits at certain times though buy eliciting reaction strikes others lures can't.
First off one will hit. Don't keep changing. U b missed
Seems like he's tired of telling people how to fish...is it just me? I mean it isn't rocket science....
You know it's good when he has a hillbilly accent
Maybe you want to replace the word "deadly" with "effective". I'm assuming you're not gut hooking all these fish and ripping out the hook and killing them.
Noted but we'll keep the title as is. Video has been a good educational piece, and if you follow Wired2Fish content, you can appreciate our position on fish care, selective harvest and overall conservation (fish and habitat).
Fish is luck as much as anything you can put a bait on a fish for 10 minutes if they dont wznt what you put on them and just not feeding it's a done deal but these guys have to tell you what they think
