    I watched this a couple times this past year. Just to remind me to keep it simple!!! I've never had another lure show out for me better than a simple swimbait rigged like this. I primarily use the Strike King Rage Tail ones. I tend to get to overthinking...so I come back to this video! Thank you for it.

    I just moved recently to a town right on Kentucky Lake. I've been fishing for many years when I lived in Illinois and never caught a bass.
    I went out this weekend and bought a bunch of swimbaits, hoping that I'll get my first bass soon! This video really helped me understand how I need to fish this lure.

I fish a lot of rocky places for walleyes......I loose a TON of leadheads slow rolling and just barely coming in contact with the rocks/concrete chunks that form the reefs in our lake. Not much of a factor with a bait like this (lead head jig, decent fall rate). On the other hand, it can be a big factor with a jerkbait, especially when you're trying to achieve neutral buoyancy.

    How about vertical jigging? Seem like a good lure for that.

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  Před 5 lety

      It works when fishing vertically but a paddle tail swimbait performs better on a retrieve. The challenge is keeping the bait horizontal -- the knot will usually slide toward the jig head under the weight of the plastic, forcing the plastic in more of an angled or vertical position. A straight-tailed fluke type plastic performs better overall when fished vertically as the tail doesn't need movement in the water column to appear natural.

    • @frankmanuele9787
      @frankmanuele9787 Před 5 lety

      I've been convinced after trying many lures that 'natural' anything is not something causes a fish to strike more. In fact the lure in the video moves like nothing in nature and seems to be used more as a trolled bait. I've uses that design both vertical and horizontal same as a skirted jig and trailer and found both presentations useful. As far the knot slipping back, a twice wound clinch knot keep it in place or even a loop knot if a forward knot is valued. The swimbait design is a good one and I've caught fish on the three sizes I pour using a jighead with exposed hook, not happy with a wide gap hook's misses. Thanks for the video.

    • @randomschmo5778
      @randomschmo5778 Před 2 lety

      It’s critical to thread the hook straight down the body of the swim bait. You’re prolly off to one side or the other slightly.

    I deeply truely envy fisherman who have the luxury of fishing a swim bait using a fully exposed hook year round as it is a utterly deadly presentation
    Unfortunately in the lakes I do 90% of my fishing in only from about early to mid March to late April can I fish a swim bait using a bare hook and then I absolutely must keep it near the surface of the weed growth
    Come end of April early May its weedless T-Rigged presentations or reel in a coffee can sized clump of weeds 8/10 casts
    Don't get me wrong I do exceptionally well on T-rigged flukes and swimbaits all year long but I really miss the 90-95 hookup ratio of a bare hook like with using a chatterbait or jig head or under spin jig head.

      Reel it in on a medium retrieve and give it a dead stop for half a reel turn and continue your retrieve. Also a good pop in the middle of your retrieve with the rod tip in the middle of your retrieve can produce big bass.
