I have oil like spots on my clothes no softener no dryer sheets ran the cleaning cycle several times … also no machine leaks what is the cause of the spots?
Just a few days ago. I ran the cleaning cycle according to the manual. It’s 2 cups bleach and the bulky cycle on hot. I ran in twice hoping it would help
I can attest to this, was fixing my mothers washing machine and saw how much soap she was using and I showed her the lines on the cap for 1/2/3 loads and showed her the correct amount and she thought I was messing with her, shes been using 5x too much soap for 68 years because she never looked at the bottle.
@@rachel5399 68 years of washing... soap was different in the 60's... not like today. The more you used the cleaner your cloths were. They weren't wrong. Until they started making newer concentrated soap.

You should definitely look into used appliances the average used appliance only costs 4 months of the average coin laundry. So when you take into account the additional cost to your utilities It only cost around 6 months of use before you start saving money.
I have never used fabric softener, and try to stop the dryer before the load is super dry... run it a couple cycles on air only, and they are ready to fold. I have mostly cotton clothes.
Told the family about this and they still do it.. and when they sweat their clothes smell like old rags.. I said you’re washer is probably filled with gunk and they think I’m crazy..
Came here to say this. I know fabric softener stays on clothes more firmly than soap and it makes towels and everything else a bit water resistant. Towels without fabric softener absorb water better.
All your videos are spot on! Always good advice. But I don't want to take it apart myself, so I'll take good care of my machines, and call a repair person when they act up. I've still got my old whirlpool mechanical washer, about 25 years old. I'll never get one of those electronic machines - too much to break! Keep up the good work on the videos. BTW love your watch!
Because of your videos, after repairing my front loader, I decided to stop using fabric aoftner. So far havent missed using it at all. So now I save money, damage and a smelly washer. Thanks! (I also clean my washer monthly with the tablets)
We started using these wool balls that go in the dryer instead of fabric softener. They work pretty good for a couple months but you will want to replace them every 2-3 months. I noticed our clothes don’t thin out like with fabric softener.
It and Tide causes a build up of lint in the drain pipe from the tub to the pump which eventually breaks loose and jams the reversing valve and the pump impeller used to pick up old washers and dryers fix them and sell them most I just had to remove the back of the pump clean it out and straighten out the reversing valve shifter arm and reinstall and sell the washer
The best alternative to fabric softener and dryer sheets is distilled vinegar; the stronger the percentage the less you require. I buy mine from The Home Depot, Harris brand; and that one is potent at 30%, so all I use is UP TO 1/4 cup depending on my laundry load. DO NOT MIX vinegar with detergent, super washing soda, or Oxi brand additives; use it solely as a substitute for fabric softener.
It’s supposed to be surfactant. It’s made up from the words “surface, active and agent”. When added to a liquid it reduces the surface tension and increases spreading and wetting ability
If you got a new washer, using an extra rinse for every wash helps a lot in reducing this buildup. Our Maytag has been running for 6 years so far with no problems or smells. Fingers crossed...
White vinegar and detergent only here. I use the vinegar for both wash and rinse on hot water cycles. For a cleaning cycle I always use bleach vinegar and then baking soda which of course does the best job at cleaning the tubs out.
We grew up using Douny fabric softener. When I moved out and bought my own washer dryer combo, I saw the price of it and passed because of my budget. That was 30 years ago. Never used it since. I'm on my second washer, never smelled.
When I moved back into my house after renters left, I washed my clothes a few times… after I’d start working and sweating my clothes started wreaking of mildew. I smelled like mildew for like 2-3 weeks every day. I took the machine apart and inside the plastic tub was a thick green biofilm. Totally cleaned it and changed the transmission oil while I was at it… it smells so clean now. 70 series washer bought in 1999, going like new still
4 things i used to replace softener 1.hydrogen peroxide 2.distilled vinegar 3.lime 4.not using softener at all,i usually do this with sport or at home clothes
The only use for fabric softener is if you have ridiculously hard water. Before we got a whole house water softener, we had to use fabric softener, else the clothes would come out with the consistency of crumpled cardboard and feel like sandpaper. Didn't matter what settings you used. Hot, cold, anywhere in the middle, all different wash cycles, different brands of detergent, always got crumpled cardboard. You didn't need gallons of fabric softener, just a tiny bit worked fine.
