      Not a terrier owner but I have a 10 month old Standard Schnauzer, I hand strip her coat since she has a gorgeous wire-coat

    This video was really helpful, thank you! I adopted a terrier mix two years ago and have gotten him clipped 4 times. Is it too far gone to try hand stripping? He is shedding more than when I first adopted him and I’d like to reduce the shedding if possible. Thank you!

      Thank you, Nicole! If the hair is coming out you can try hand stripping. Or start carding first to remove the softer hair and then try stripping :)

    Hello
    how to know which trimmer to buy for the lakeland because there are several models? I will have this breed of dog soon thank you

    • @vitacanis1117
      @vitacanis1117  Před 3 lety

      Hi Sandrine, do you mean hand stripping knife? Or trimmer as a clipper? For a Lakeland Terrier you will need a coarse or medium, and fine knife. My favourite is Lonsdale brand, hand made in Germany; and here in the UK you can get it from The Wire Haired Fox Terrier Association website. Hope it helps :)

      @@vitacanis1117 yes a stripping knife by hand, I saw that you also use soap on the hair what is it? sorry to ask but as I don't speak English I don't understand anything you say in the video. in any case your advice helps me a lot thank you, ha one more question for the pasta we don't use the stripping knife we can take the clippers?

    • @vitacanis1117
      @vitacanis1117  Před 3 lety

      @@sandrinem9840 don't worry :) Hand stripping is better for the coat, it's harsher and better colour. They can be clipped, but then the coat will be soft and wavy.

      @@sandrinem9840 I'm using a block chalk on the coat to help to to grab the hair. Also if you start clipping once, you won't be bale to go back to hand stripping as the clipping changes the coat so much

    My Lakeland has been hand stripped and shown (before I got him). How often should I hand strip him? Can I use a furminator comb on him? Thank you!

    • @vitacanis1117
      @vitacanis1117  Před 2 lety +1

      It's up to you... if you would like to maintain short and neat look, weekly. If not monthly, or every 6- 12 weeks. I wouldn't go over 12 weeks. Furminator will remove the undercoat, not the top coat, and I would use it only on the body, not on legs and face

      @@vitacanis1117 thank you for your quick reply! If I opt for the furminator will that ruin his coat like shaving does?

    I think to make it with the hand I never made grooming it is my very first lakeland that will have it September 20, there it is still a baby.
    Please tell me that I can do it alone without going through a professional because in my region in Provence there is no groomer so I want to learn to do it so I can take good care of my future doggie thank you
