How are you supposed to pet wirehairs in show coat?
How do you PET them? Like with your hands? Or PUT them in show coat? I’m sorry, I just don’t understand the question. Can you clarify?
@@jillymoochgrooms literally just pet with hands 😭 my uncle has a wirehair in show and refuses to let anyone see her cuz we “don’t know how to pet a wirehair in show coat” and just won’t elaborate so I was wondering what he meant
Well, it’s very very important not to break the hair. So if you pet them in a scruffy way, you could break hair, which the dog needs to be properly shown. Also, it depends on if he is trying to get the pattern set… You have to build layers on a wire hair dog, and it’s very high maintenance. He may be afraid someone will, like I said, break the coat or he may be trying to exclusively bond with Dog if he is handler. If he is not the handler, he may want the dog to live a show life rather than as a pet. When the dog is hand, stripped, the hair is pulled out in a certain direction so that it will continue to grow in that direction. He may be afraid that if someone pets the hair in the opposite direction, it will affect the route and the way the coat lays on the dog. You don’t want high roots on a wire coated dog. You want the jacket to lay smooth for example. He may also just be a jerk?
Also, he may not want the oils from your hands on the dogs coat. There are a lot of reasons. But if it’s a well bred dog, it was really expensive and showing dogs is also expensive so either way I would respect his wishes or ask him to teach you how to do it the right way.
