    Dyno Joe, just want to say that what you have been doing with these saws is awesome. Your charts make everything nice and clear. Guys like me that are messing around with porting there own saws and don’t have a way to know how much power they are putting out can make an educated guess and have a ball park idea because of your charts. Also your knowledge has helped me understand things better. Love your vids. Very much appreciate your work

    As it is, 462 C-M and 500i have the highest power-to-weight ratio stock and the same holds true ported + muffler modded. Dunno if some Husky model can beat them. But if you want a big Stihl and the most power-to-weight you will choose between them. I suppose 500i has better brake spesific fuel consumption (BSFC) and might have more potential for improvement once people can get their hands on remapping ie. chip tuning.

    • @CuttinWithCody
      @CuttinWithCody Před 6 měsíci +1

      @maddawgnoll Stihl released the 462 in 2018, they didn't "discontinue" the 441 until as late as 2020 in some places, I believe they stopped manufacturing in 2019. In addition to that, theirs a more obvious disparity with your logic that can be observed in the sequential nature of stihls numbering (044, 440, 441) vs (460, 461, 462) which also suggests you are likely incorrect about their intended order of succession assuming they even had one for this. All that being said, whether you are right or wrong about which saw stihl intended to replace is fairly immaterial to me and almost worthless to unravel beyond a certain point. My guess of the way this went is that the 461 was Stihls current goto at the time it was around for the 70-78cc weight class and then they released the 441 as sort of an r&d saw to test the waters with the new 1st generation of m-tronic / strato setups along with any other design innovations unique to that saw at the time(I theorize its because people are becoming pussyz who care more about anti-vibration, lowering noise levels, reducing the powerhead weight, and the emissions than they do about low-end torque, robust lasting construction, as well as the amount of and simplicity of repairs needed)... fast forward to now, the 441 and 461 are gone and the saw stihl left us with to follow them is the 462, which as you stated is similar to the 441 in a number of significant ways that seem to make it more comparable to the 441 than the 461.... end of rant, I just wanted it to be know I like the 441 out of the 3 that's all lol

    • @maddawgnoll
      @maddawgnoll Před 6 měsíci

      @@CuttinWithCody ok. I figure the 500i is the replacement for the 461. Model numbers typically coincide with your logic. 044, 440, 441, etc being nearly the same cc class. But there's a shift being made. The 500i is a 79 cc saw, then the jump from there is the 661 which is a 91cc. So it makes sense that the 462 could be the replacement of the 441, and the 500i being only 2cc larger than the 461. It makes sense that that's could be the replacement for the 461. I can't confirm any of this, just pointing out the possibilities of model number being irrelevant to the saw classification. Glock (as an example of model numbers that don't make sense) has been confusing gun owners for nearly four decades now. Regardless of why it is the way it is, I love the 461 (pre mtronuc) and wouldn't trade it for the 500i
