This kit let me get my 97 VW Golf back into safe operation. Those foggy windows and ethylene glycol clouds were no fun. Actually took me longer to pull the 5/8ths plug from the bypass than the rest of the install total! Cheers mates, thanks for making it easy for me.
I literally just did this on my Ranger this week. I also flushed out the coolant in the heater core so I don't continue smelling the coolant, now I'm flushing out the cooling system itself too. I ordered an extra one to have in my tool box but will probably be needing it in an Expedition also, definitely easier than replacing the heater cores in each vehicle.
Last the life of my beater sounds good 😅😅 .. labour cost to replace this is insane. Just get it working and solid and save your money. Old beater loves these solutions
Hello, I just recently got a 01 sunfire that’s leaking coolant from the firewall I believe it’s the heater core? Would there be any other ways to find out for sure before I attempt a bypass
Thanks for this. So are there 2 plugs to isolate the 2 hoses that remain going through the firewall into the core itself? Should the core be flushed as part of this procedure? Thank you!
Hi Majed, I apologize for my previous inaccurate response. To answer your question correctly- It is part number 626-001 and it is a universal kit. Attached is the link to that part. Again, I apologize for my previous reply. www.dormanproducts.com/p-137050-626-001.aspx
Got a 1995 pontiac trans am the heater core to water pump hose assembly has a small leak and its 300 to replace it would this work? Car dont get driven in winter onoy summer months
What would the part number be for a 2005 suburban 5.3? I’m currently stuck in Nebraska and in need of a kit. Napa is close to my location. Thanks in advance.
@@DormanProducts thanks for reply. I did some additional research after posting that comment. It does use a 5/8 for supply and 3/4 for return. Thanks again!
@@DormanProducts brother is there any bad effect in the engine in the future or ever heating issue? Brother super thank you for your answer it helps me a lot❤️
Hello! Bypassing the heater core would have a negligible effect on the cooling of the engine, the radiator is the primary component that effects engine cooling.
Its pretty self explanatory, pop the hoses of the core, install this part on the hoses, they are normally 5/8 and 3/4,put the part in according to hose size, top the coolant in your radiator back up that you lost thru the core, after driving a few miles, wait til the car is cold again and recheck your coolant, add more if necessary and your done.

Do you still have heat
No. If you bypass the heater core, there will be no heat.
Thanks for this. So are there 2 plugs to isolate the 2 hoses that remain going through the firewall into the core itself? Should the core be flushed as part of this procedure? Thank you!
Hello! Unfortunately, we do not list a plug kit for the heater core side. I will let our product team know of your new product idea, thanks!
Is it necessary to drain the coolant before installing one of these kits? It’s not under pressure when it’s cold, so I’m guessing not. Is that right?
Hello, it only needs to be drained down to the level at which the bypass kit is installed.
Thanks for sharing this video, Kindly what's the part number for the bypass kit on Dakota 2006.......thank you.

How do you bypass the front heater core with keeping the rear heater and tacll
Hi Dennis, you don't because if you're bypassing the heater core, that affects the rear heater as well.
@@DormanProducts mine has a separate line for the rear heater it looks like they spliced in a line to the rear heater

Will this work on the rear heater in a Chevy Suburban?

@@DormanProducts Wow in can’t believe you responded so quickly.
How about a 76 C3 Corvette... I imagine yes.. mine just went out today :(.
Hi Terry, sorry to hear that, you would need to check your vehicle to see if it uses either 3/4" or 5/8" fittings into their heater core.

Thank you so much brother
Someone tell me this would work with dodge ram 3500
Hi Curtis, it is a universal kit with 3/4 and 5/8 sized fittings. You would want to check on your truck to see if they are those sizes.

Instead of bypassing the heater core, we get 70% od useless chatter.
