The concert "venue" was an airfield. Not any houses around. That said rumors exist that some people are STILL trying to get out of the parking lot.
I just got back last week.. Alot has happened lol
🤣🤣😂😂😂
“Creeping Death” is a song referenced from the biblical story of the Israel Exodus out of Egypt, in the book of EXODUS in the Bible. Singer James Hatfield had a somewhat religious
Upbringing based on his Mother’s religious belief, but that’s a long story in itself 😎 Kool Vid!!! By the way, that concert was held in a Russian Airfield. 🤘🏼😎
*HETfield 😉
They mostly got the song from the movie The Ten Commandments
@@jaymzmetalonewhat a bunch of bastards for making that song! I actually think people watched it because of the song. (I am having fun and not trying to be a D)🍻
The song is about the Tenth Plague of Egypt & was written from the perspective of the destroyer, the Angel of Death. Also there were several bands that played that show, not just Metallica. So it's not as if people just died at a Metallica concert or during their performance.
But they did, when Metallica played harvester of sorrow you see the camera panning to people being beaten by ex KGB
@RandomMatrix I know but I’m saying they specifically showed it during Harvester
@RandomMatrix I'm just letting them know it was an entire concert with other bands too, it wasn't just a Metallica concert .
@RandomMatrix didn't some of them take off their uniforms & join in on the chaos though?
@RandomMatrix #jealous 😮
An absolute MUST for you to check out is Pantera Domination from that same concert in Moscow.
Amen 100 percent agree.
A must to react to!!
Pantera blew the doors off that shit. No band was that gnarly back then. None
But they are metallica fans ....Lars is way better than vinnie Paul 😅
during Primal Concrete Sledge you can see militairy and police beating on people
I always watch CREEPING DEATH live just to watch Jason Newsted singing... That's a whole different vibe 🤘🤘🤘
Cliff and Jason🖤🖤🖤 I just love both.
Me 2
Then you and @Daris Mehtic would probably enjoy this as well. Search YT for "seek & destroy Jason on vocals". He sings the whole song with James doing backup vocals. (EDIT - live in Netherland 1992)
Cliff stored his bass power in his hair, Jason stores his in his neck😂
Rob stores his in his knees LOL
@@mztweety1374 Jason’s dad said in an interview that Jason would call him from the road and tell him how bad his neck was always hurting and he was getting massive headaches but didn’t know why. Then his dad saw him playing live and whipping his head around. He told Jason (paraphrasing here) “Well, yeah, I know exactly why your neck hurts.”
Seeing him windmilling like that then and knowing that he suffers from neck and back pain has always made me wonder if that was the cause. I miss his vocals.
@@GhostDrummer as a chronic pain survivor sounds about right.
Any song from Seattle 89 is fire. Battery, Sanitarium, Fade to Black etc.
The thing that should not be… awesome in that show
The crowd was not based specifically on free admission, this was a direct result of the end of communism., the tearing down of the Berlin wall. This was the first "Western concert" to be held in the former USSR Capital of Moscow. These people were just loving freedom., for the first time.
I was in high school when all this was going on. Crazy times.
Technically there was music festival back in 1989 that had Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row, Cinderella, and Bon Jovi. I remember watching this because one of the MTV VJs (a Brit, forgot his name) covering the festival was showing his hotel room and commenting that he was glad to have brought soft double ply and scented toilet paper with him.
@@BagoPorkRinds That was the Moscow Music Peace Festival in 1989. But even before that there was a Western music festival there in 1987, featuring Carlos Santana, James Taylor, the Doobie Brothers, and Bonnie Raitt. That show only drew about 18,000 people though. Two years later, the Moscow Music Peace Festival drew (between 70K and 80K, depending on the source) over two days.
FUNNY NOTE about the Moscow Music Peace Festival: Motley Crue had just made a pact with each other to get sober, but...well..none of the other acts on that bill had done so. One of the members of Crue (I think it was Nikki Sixx, IIRC, but maybe not) said about the trip over there, "...it was crazy. We're on a plane full of people, and the ONLY sober people on the plane, besides the pilots, are MOTLEY CRUE!!!" 😆
Actually it was the second.
The first was in 1989.
Motley Crue, BonJovi, Scorpions, Cinderella, Skid Row, Ozzy Osbourne
@@jimpierce7853 And two years before THAT, in 1987, there was a concert there featuring Carlos Santana, James Taylor, the Doobie Brothers, and Bonnie Raitt. It wasn't a festival, but it WAS the first Western music show in Russia.
@@philpennington826 yup. I'm an old man. I lived all of it.
My first concert was Deep Purple in '73
Pantera
Domination
Same concert.
This song is one of their staples in concerts over the years and one of the most intense awesome things always happens after Kirk’s guitar solo when the crowd starts chanting “die”. Just saw them in San Fran for their 40th anniversary concert- I have been seeing them live since ‘89 and I still get chills when this happens during Creeping Death! Glad you are enjoying their stuff. Check out anything from their concert at Nimes- it’s an ancient Roman colosseum in France. They open the concert with the song Blackened which would be. Great one to react to! 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
@Jeff Volpe... I consider myself fortunate that I got to see Metallica with Cliff Burton not too long before he died in 1986. They were supporting their Master of Puppets album, while they opened for Ozzy. The next time I saw them was at the first Monsters of Rock just before they put out And Justice for All. My favorite concert is when they toured with Queensryche on their "And Justice For All" tour. Queensryche opened for Metallica and played their entire Operation Mindcrime album. That was a show to say the least!
Metallica just celebrated 40 years!! FORTY YEARS OF KICKING ASS ALL OVER THE WORLD🔥🔥 🔥🔥 #METALLICA 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Without fail, this is how I start my Passover Seder every year! We begin with Metallica's Creeping Death, have the Seder, the meal, and watch "The Ten Commandments" (which pretty much ends with the Creeping Death, kinda... mostly, sort of....). Jewish holidays lack heavy metal, so this one is a staple in my home!
That's what's up mine too Bro
Guitar is one of the hardest instruments to play. To be running around playing like they is unbelievable and to see be precise. Trust me, I play guitar it still blows my mind they can do this.
I am from the SF Bay Area, saw Metallica in November 1983 for the first time, I was 14, I’m am now 52. “Bang that head that doses not bang!”
Hetfield is a beast ,playing Rhythm with the intensity, downpicking speed and precision that he does whilst being the sole vocalist..Lars was at his peak here around this time and Kirk on the ball . Jason's backing vocals are an essential ingredient as well that's missed.
Here's an underrated Metallica song that NO ONE has reacted to....Outlaw Torn. People need to know about the good songs on this album!
Outlawn Torn
FiXXXer
Two tremendously under appreciated tracks from that era
@@HvyMetal4Ever and bleeding me or mama said. I get how fans didn't like the softer bluesy stuff but I do!
Specially the live version 2019 Germany
There are a few reaction channels on YT that has done "The Outlaw Torn"
@@tallycahamuhlhetru26 not enough
React to Harvester of Sorrow from the same concert, troops beating the crowd..crazy
Many of Metallica's earlier works had deep religious undertones. Creeping Death is taken from the Book of Exodus in the Bible and the tenth plague brought upon Egypt. Awesome song.
The wall came down and the music played. One of the greatest rock shows of all time
Metallica - The day that never comes live in Nimes 2009
You’re into deep meanings of songs, you are in the right place. ‘One’, by Metallica in its original video format is the epitome of a metal song. ‘Master of Puppets’ is up there too.
Ive seen metallica in the 80s, 90s and 2000s and they always bring the energy. Great live band
Watch The Ten Commandments (1956) with Charlston Heston and Yul Brynner and this song will make perfect sense. Metallica did an awesome job with this one.
Another great live show is
1985 Day on the Green
For whom the bell tolls
Back when James, Lars, Kirk & the late Cliff Burton on bass
Cliff does a double somewhat free style bass solo
It is extremely mind blowing
And they were only in their early 20's
Just badass
Yes.lov this ! Bad ass . Found them in ‘94 when i was almost 40 and ive. Never looked bk. Im gonna be 66 soon and they still kill it for me! The way james sings.. damn! Glad you found this one👍 dan ,north fl -2/12/22
You gotta react to Metallica live in Seattle 1989. Master of puppets. It’s the ultimate live experience for any metal band ever. The amount of energy is unbelievable.
What up guys! Good morning (or afternoon, or night) everyone! Hope all of you wonderful people are having a great day so far!
This was actually a show released to the masses as "binge and purge" boxset. I got this set for christmas in 91. Still have it to this day.
Badass!! You guys should check out Pantera live in Moscow Domination.. they played right before Metallica 1991 and the Solo in that song Domination is fuckn sick! RIP Dimebag Darrell!!!!
I was the perfect age to be there. I was 19, 20. I'm so jealous I wasn't there. I saw them three years prior. They melted my face 🤘🫠🤘
Metal head through an through.. following your channel for a while now an love the content… keep up the good work an enjoy your music journey
Yes I put my body into it in the drums!....it catches up too after playing for 35 years, especially Metallica!
Harvester of sorrow from this concert and then Outlaw torn live 2019 Manheim Germany
Epic
Remember fade to black? If you listen to the live Seattle 1989 version, it’s literally pure bliss to your ears, especially with head phones ! That whole concert is amazing. Any Metallica fan would definitely recommend ! You guys are great with your videos. Please don’t stop reacting to Metallica. Not being able to hear them again for the first time sucks, so seeing you guys hear their music and performances for the first time is nostalgic! Great and amazing content again!!
Not every Metallica fan. 😉
An abundance of awesome live performances of Fade are out there to be had.
@Life With Recklezz This concert, which also featured AC/DC, Pantera, The Black Crowes & E.S.T was held at Tushino Airfield, which was used for Russian Military exercises during the Cold War.
It's now used for football games.
My fav is the live in Mexico City version..idk what year but James vocals were so passionate
Pantera, Domination at the same concert will kick your teeth in !
this was during a big part of history..the berlin wall was just knocked down and people from the west and east side could finnaly interact.it was also the first time any bands from america where allowed to play there..so it was huge.
The Berlin Wall came down 2 years earlier.
That's not true. This is from 1991. The Moscow Music Peace Festival, with Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row, Cinderella, the Scorpions and Bon Jovi, was two years earlier in 1989. Two years before THAT, in 1987, a music festival was held in Moscow featuring Carlos Santana, James Taylor, the Doobie Brothers and Bonnie Raitt. That first show only drew about 18,000 people though.
this was at airbase , and wasn't free but at one point the people rushing was so much that they open doors , there where shuttles to base and people asking for a lift , don't forget not every one as a car and like the show many just left the cars where they could and head to the show , and Newsted is wearing the t-shirt from Portugal show
Apparently this concert ,'the Monsters of Rock international music festival' was held at the Tushino Airfield in Moscow, on September 28, 1991,
It's good your watching them in their prime. When they still had heart and soul(Jason Newsted) in the band.
Sometimes when I watch this concert and see camera shots of the huge crowd standing in front of them, I just can't help but think that Metallica isn't human. It feels like no simple human could have that much power in front of 1.6 million people. Metallica are just gods of metal and this concert showcases that so well. They weren't just performing for a few thousand people, this was a whole damn country of people. Awe striking every time
Love me sum LARS....there I said it and he’s rite up there wth the gr8test drummers of all time. Happy New Year 2u n yours...
In 1994 at Rod Stewart concert in Rio De Daneiro was 4.2 million people.
Not one person died at this concert, there were a few hundred injuries but No deaths. 1.6 million in an airfield which was actually just outside or Moscow.
It was a different concert held outside the Kremlin where 53 people died, and a much smaller crowd less than 500,000.
Another great reaction guys 🔥 “Harvester of Sorrow” from this same concert next 🙌🏽
Funny that you mention the drummers hands, during the last song of the set James cut one of the stops short and Lars cut his thumb open on his snare drum trying to catch up. Lars bled all over his snare while they finished the set.
From this same concert y'all need to check out Pantera "Domination".
Love this whole concert!!
Facts!!
Greatest band in history!
Next time try Domination live by Pantera same concert!
500000 tickets were sold for the Monsters of Rock in Moscow in 1991. 1.1 million more fans storm the gates and saw the concert for free
The concert was held at the Tushino Airfield in Moscow.
Check out Pantera- Psycho Holiday at the same concert. ‘91 in Moscow
Hardest drums ever....Black Sabbath live - War Pigs from 1970. Hardest drummin I have ever seen!!
Sabbath dominates that Live in Paris show, the energy onstage is exceptional. Bill Ward puts on a clinic and mashes that kit during War Pigs!
Yep, you can really hear how hard Bill is hitting those drums.
MAAAN lemme get that Ernie Irvan shirt! 😂
Y'all are absolutely right about the drummer having the hardest job. I'm a guitarist/bassist, but my brother's a drummer and it's absolute hell on him. He's in much better shape than the rest of us 😂
The concert was at an airfield, I imagine there were no houses or apartments anywhere close
Hi, you guys are amazing, thanks for reacting to one of the best metal band, ever! Maybe they did got hated on but it was never their intention, in my opinion, a free concert, you are a metal head, fuck, you be prepared! It was never ever their fault. You two are appreciated, thanks and goodnight!,🤟💪
Check out Pantera Domination from the same concert.
Funny you mentioned how hard the drums being hit Lars actually cuts his hand in "harvester of sorrow" during the pause waiting for James's queue .
Check please Pantera "domination" live in mosow too, same concert, epic.! cheers, from italy
You should react to Blackened by Metallica. The live version in Seattle 1989
You want an amazing guitar solo? Check out pantera floods, it has one of the most legendary metal guitar solos of all time.
🔥 vid btw !
First off, the chanting of Die is part of the song. I'm quite sure the band had no idea of the deaths at the time. And when you have people storm a concert there are gonna be problems. And those deaths were not just because of Metallica, there were several other bands there playing that concert. Like Pantera, Motley Crue, Ozzy and so forth. And you have to remember this was before the internet and mass information. Being a Metallica fan since the beginning us and most of the world didn't hear about the deaths etc. until years later. It may have been mention on the late news one night. but that's about it. Because back then you didn't get all the bad news and a 24 hour news cycle. Plus at the time Russia had just come out of the cold war. And they still controlled all the news. And didn't want bad press. It was a different time and very different thought process than it is today.
It would appear that not much has changed in Russia during the last 30 years...
PANTERA performing DOMINATION at this same concert should be next reaction
Still waiting on you to react to some GOJIRA my man. THE HEAVIEST MATTER OF THE UNIVERSE, SILVERA, FLYING WHALES, GIFT OF GUILT, DELIVERANCE, OROBORUS, THE ART OF DYING, BORN IN WINTER.. shit anything from this band is fire 🔥 🔥 🔥 I promise you will be blown away. Please give them a chance you won’t be disappointed. They will be in your top 5. GUARANTEED.
The reason they were yelling die, is this because it's a lyric of the song. The song is about the biblical tale of Moses leading Jews out of Egypt
They had no idea anything was going on while they were playing. The Russian military was running the show. Metallica literally took a helicopter into the concert, and left via helicopter after they were done. It was the first time western music was allowed into Soviet territory. (ex-Soviet at that point, but not by much)
it wasn't the first time. The Moscow Music Peace Festival was 2 years earlier, in 1989, a two-day festival with Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row, Cinderella, the Scorpions and Bon Jovi. Two years before that, in 1987, there was a Western music concert there featuring Carlos Santana, James Taylor, the Doobie Brothers and Bonnie Raitt, but that show only drew about 18,000 people.
If you havent already you should check out Pantera "Domination" same concert
Parent's in the 1980's: Metallica plays Devil music
Metallica: Plays song about the Passover story from the book of Exodus in the bible. 😎
The poor people who lost their lives that day could have died for several reasons 1) it was in August and HOT and with that many people all crowded together, it made it even hotter so death via heat stroke & dehydration could easily have occurred. 2) The military was out there cracking heads (literally) because they'd never had a metal concert in Russia before so they were a little freaked about the audience reaction and it's not like here - the military could do whatever they wanted and not get into trouble if they killed a kid.
Thank you for doing this song!
I can't remember which drummer it was, but there was a drummer who broke one of his drums from how hard he hit it. XD
That was just evry days bizznizz back in the Day
You 100% need to watch the Metallica Whiskey in a Jar Live at Slane Castle in Ireland ☘️
You have seen the greatest band ever, that guy played drums was born in Denmark, And his group is a hard hitting band which is awesome
You should react to Harvester Of Sorrow Moscow 1991
They would've got hate in the age of social media but not in that time. Maybe a tiny bit but not nearly as much.
Please try to make it to the band "Pantera" the sing "Domination" at this same concert. They went on before Metallica but man, crazy energy
I heard that they stopped counting after 1.6 million! 😲 (And to answer your question as to where in Moscow it was held?...It was at Tushino Airfield.)
It was played at a military air feild. Heap's of space for that many people.
Lars actually cut his finger during that show and just kept playing and blood splatter flying everywhere.❤
I think he has the drumhead framed somewhere ..Now that's metal
happy new year
The song is about the final plague on Egypt . Prior to the Hebrews being released from their bondage . The Angel Abaddon the Destroyer is " Creeping Death "
Обожаю эту группу !!!
This was just after the fall of the wall….Y’all got to do EVH 1986 Eruption solo…..
As far as the deaths at the show goes, Metallica heard about them and as soon as they did they took care of those who passed, because the felt responsible in a way and it really got to them. These guys really care for the fans.
Thank you boys!!! If you listen METALLICA. Is the best🤟🤟🤟
you should do master of puppets or battery from seattle 1989 one of their best performance
If i remembered correctly, this was at Tushino Airfield, Moscow.
The only time over a million Russians shouting "DIE-DIE-DIE!" at you is not frightening haha
Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣 how accurate your statement is... especially when I was growing up nearing the end of the cold war... I remember living in fear that nukes could be launched at any moment 😓😨😲😲😲
🤣😂🤣😅
Great video, Metallica is actually my favorite band. I don’t know if the show was intended to be a free concert for everyone I think they sold tickets to the show but then hundreds of thousands of other people just kind of force their way in but I could be wrong but I want to say I remember one of their shows in the early 90s that were outdoors where they just ended up with hundreds of thousands of people that just force their way in without paying. They are easily my favorite band to go see live but I prefer to see them in like an NBA basketball arena or a pavilion outdoors where it’s going to be around 30,000 people because I just don’t want to be in a crowd once it reaches 100,000 people. There’s too many things that can go wrong with that many drunks around here.
Great reaction!!
It would be amazing if you react to Master of Puppets live in Seattle 1989
Hugs from México!
This was one of the largest gatherings of Humans through all time.
Top 10 arguably top 5. Since "pilgrimages" strech for countless miles over the course of days as people passby and arent all together at once for one focus.
Edit: ok cut the 10x because of rounding but also the concert wasnt 24 hours long, however it still shows that 50 deaths among 1.5-2million people is practically expected regardless of the event.
Okay it was done at a military airfield and it was the first concert from what I heard that was allowed in Russia ever so yeah legitimately blew up as you would say. Military personnel there are walkways in between so many rows of people.
LOL someone lied to you. It wasn't the first.
@@philpennington826 cool
I read other comments that said that those Russians were not saying DIE but DA (Да). Basically, Russian for Yeah or Yes. It sure sounds like DA.
the crowd started showing up 3 days early and camping close to venue. russia uses a lot of trains for public transportation from what my ex said trains ran 24 hours a day for a week befor and a3 days after the concert those arriving the day of had a 5 mile hike to venue. the 53 deaths were largely do to overdoses because ambulances couldnt reach them. also the helicopters flying over head was to fan the crowd so they would;t over heat. there were 5 helicopters flying all day in shifts of five
There were NO deaths at the Moscow event. In 1988 the event at Donington castle had two people die when the crowd surged toward the stage for guns and roses
the base and drums are the instruments that lead the song
As much as Metallica tries to promote this as their concert. It was not. It was called For Those About To Rock: Monsters in Moscow. An all day concert with headline bands closed out by AC/DC.
Beats the kick drum in "For whom the bell tolls"
You definitely going to love this Metallica my favorite heavy metal group ever Ozzy Osbourne my favorite solo rocker Bone thugs my favorite rap group ever Eminem the goat 🐐 my favorite solo rapper ever all top 4 and this concert crazy as s***no fights that many people that is love.
The die part... that was the song... but fit so perfectly.
Recklezz - You should react to some Rage Against The Machine, which is a wicked mix of heavy rock and rap with very meaningful lyrics. Try "Down Rodeo", "Take the power back" or "Renegades of funk". You should watch a clip with lyrics so that you can see what they're saying.
What a free concert on a airfield looks like. EPIC
I don't know if you have reacted to Master of Puppets or One but they have amazing guitar solo's in them
