  • Some miscellaneous footage from ITV Schools dating from the late 70s, most likely between 1976 and 1978.
    Most attempts to date the brief clips seen here, using archive listings and comparing the interval music with other CZcams footage, seem to raise more questions than they answer!
    The first clock into London - The Making of a City must be from Summer 1977 or Summer 1978.
    The two clips featuring the 'winter scene' slide, starting at 01:44, appear to be from Autumn 1976.
    The junction which includes the Racing Cars Picture Roll, starting at 06:04, and perhaps the clocks featuring 'Rustic Rigaudon' may well be from Autumn 1978, as Believe it or Not and Writers Workshop were scheduled after each other that term. The slide seen briefly in the same junction is not, however, in keeping with theme of stamps used earlier in that term, so this sheds doubt on the date. (The slide was networked and YTV opted-out to show Picture Roll, opting back at the start of the clock). The programmes were also scheduled together in Spring 1978, but the clock music would appear to rule out that term - maybe. This dating isn't easy!
    The announcement into The English Programme, footage starting at 08:17, is referring to programmes shown in Autumn 1977 and Autumn 1978 but my guess is that this clip, along with the brief clip of the 'ship slide' and the other clocks using 'Handelian Harp' are from Spring 1978. Maybe. Perhaps. Hopefully.
    The programme finishing at 09:08 is French Studies, which became The French Programme, and the unit being shown is from Autumn 1977 and Autumn 1978. This was the last programme on a Wednesday both years, with Stop Look Listen being the first programme on a Thursday, which corresponds with Redvers Kyle's closing announcement. I think from the slide used this is from Autumn 1977.
    The final clip, starting at 10:15, can only be from Spring 1977. Obviously the last programme of the morning, as ATV's Peter Davis follows with a local closing announcement, and this is the only term that a David Bellamy programme closed the day - in this case called 'It's Life'.
    Oh, and a final word about the slide featuring the Bristh Wild Flowers stamps seen at 00:25. I though the date the stamps were issued might help, but research shows these stamps date from 1967. Bugger! However, the brief snippet of music heard suggests it may come from the same term as the 'London: Making of a City' clock, which would be Summer 1977 or Summer 1978.
    Huge thanks to Simon Luxton who provided me with all this footage. Some of it may appear elsewhere on the internet, but this is sourced from my own collection.

    This is my all-time favourite from ITV schools and colleges, and amongst them is the French Programme from 1977, when I was 10 years old and I love the theme tune so much, but I wish they bring these complete series back on You Tube, so I can look back in my school years.

    Some excellent footage here. A big thank you😊. Was the harpsichord piece still played in the 1980's as it seems familiar to me? I started school in 1980. My favourite instruments are the harp, flute, harpsichord and synths; I wonder why😉

    @zetametallic - Thanks!! Yes the harpsichord music was used again in Summer 1983 and Summer 1985. Rustic Rigadoun, heard in a few of these clips, was often heard in Summer 1985.

    9:30 That's the voice of Redvers Kyle, so that particular clip was originally recorded in the Yorkshire Television region.

      Anthony Hobson And the following clip (end of David Bellamy programme) is from ATV, though I forget the announcer’s name.

    Fantastic footage, never seen many of these clips before, just one question why does the sound seem to dip a lot?

    Thanks! That track is a library track - it's called Rustic Rigaudon by Leslie Pearson.

    @CaptainSiCo well, that would make sense because the clip of Look Around: Reclamation seems to be in that part of the recording, and as I said that seemingly comes from late November 1976.

  • @RobinCarmody
    @RobinCarmody Před 12 lety

    Over the first "winter scene" caption there is what appears to be print-through of Peter Marshall doing an announcement during the old mid-morning break in schools programmes (something about "moderate bankers"?), which suggests that that part of the recording comes from Thames.
    Seemingly yet another music hall allusion at the very end from ATV, the company that had played midwife to the transition in the first place ...

  • @RobinCarmody
    @RobinCarmody Před 12 lety

    TV Times has the 'Reclamation' edition of Look Around being shown on Friday 26th November 1976 and, going by the term's schedules, presumably again on Monday 29th November, but I can find no further transmissions at least while that clock remained, so perhaps the recording is from that far back.

    @RobinCarmody Robin, I've been checking the Watch With Teacher CD, and track listings are generally corresponding very well to this footage. One thing I've noted - assuming Ben's Westward clip is Spring 1978, and it seems it's all it can be, and the music in the first junction is networked, then it probably dates everything I thought was Autumn 1978 (Rustic Rigaudon clocks and Picture Rolls) to Spring 1978. The programme schedules back this up, with 'Life and Death' transmitted that term. >>>>

  • @CaptainSiCo
    @CaptainSiCo  Před 12 lety

    @RobinCarmody Robin, Looking again at the 'winter scene' clips, I'm thinking they may be Autumn 1976. On a Monday, Look Around finishes at 10.35 after which there is a break until My World at 11.05 in most regions (and the announcer can be heard mentioning this). I can't see an ATV programme scheduled before My World in this way the following two years. How We Used To Live seems to finishing in the other 'winter scene' clip, which fits with the term.

    what was the music used in 1974 it had a harpichord and guiter

  • @CaptainSiCo
    @CaptainSiCo  Před 12 lety +1

    @dublinbrazilianblue Just the quality of the archive material, I'm afraid. Before DVDs, and indeed the internet, was widely available, collectors used to copy their VHS material for each other, so it's quite possible a lot of this footage is copies of copies of copies....

    Could someone please, please tell me who was responsible for the instrumental track at the end of 'The English Programme'? IT's one of the most uplifting pieces of music I've ever heard. Is it a 'library' music track?

    • @CaptainSiCo
      @CaptainSiCo  Před 2 lety

      The closing sequence that appears after The English Programme opening at 09:07 is actually from French Studies (just the way this compilation was edited). Anyway if that’s the one you mean it’s called Passing Through by Alan Parker (and was also used on The French Programme and episodes of Finding Out in the 1980s).

    The harpsichord piece before 'writers workshop' countdown...been after that for 30 odd years
    is it library music or an actual composition?......well done CaptainSiCo..for this collection.

    Anthony, a process of elimination indicates that Spring 1978 used Rustic as the clock tune.

    • @antster1983
      @antster1983 Před 10 lety

      Ahh, so they would have used a mix of tunes then - from David Snell's harp to Leslie Pearson's harpsichord.
      Watch With Teacher must be wrong then as it lists "Night Groove" and "Freedom Rock" as two of that term's tunes.
      ...Don't tell me Winchester Hospital Radio (or whoever made the Discogs entry) used that f*****g spreadsheet too!

  • @RobinCarmody
    @RobinCarmody Před 12 lety

    If the 'Believe it or Not' recording of 'Life and Death' is from autumn 1978, then it would be from Tuesday 21st or Friday 24th November.

    @martin1000890 Gavin, I'm sure you don't mean to be rude, but it would be nice if you actually commented on something that's been uploaded, or at least said you liked it, before asking for yet more footage.
