  • In this video Tshirt print - Use This Screen Size Frame To Get Better Prints is about using a 23x31 screen frame for all your printing needs and you wiil see why I am switching to this size silkscreen frame.
Screen printing is the process of pressing ink through a stencilled mesh screen to create a printed design. It’s a popular technique used in a whole range of different industries, so even if you've never heard of the term before today, it’s likely that you’ve worn or used a screen-printed product at some point without even realising. The process is sometimes called serigraphy or silk screen printing, but all of these names refer to the same basic method.
Take transparency and place on outside of screen, right side down, with clear tape. Locations on screen vary due to placement on textile. Place screen in exposure unit or in direct light to expose emulsion. In this video screen printing basic - using this screen size frame I got better prints will explain why using a 23x31 screen frame will results in better screen prints.

    How to Silk Screen
How to silk screen : 7 Steps
    1. Coat screen with photo sensitive emulsion. This should be done in an area not well lit and while emulsion is drying keep screen out of light.
    2. Take transparency and place on outside of screen, right side down, with clear tape. Locations on screen vary due to placement on textile. Place screen in exposure unit or in direct light to expose emulsion.
    3. After emulsion has been exposed, remove transparency and take to wash out sink. Here gently rinse out entire screen- the emulsion where the image was will completely wash away as well as any excess emulsion that could run into image while drying. After rinse set screen aside to dry.
    4. Clear packing tape works best to go around the inside of screen to prevent ink from running into edges of screen which would go through and to preserve screens. At this time pin-holing is also done. Pin holing is carefully checking the screen for specs in the screen where emulsion was missed or washed out and is not part of image. Cover pin holes via block out, tape or emulsion pen.
    5. Take screen to press, set in, line up (t-squares work nicely) center and screw in.
    6. Take desired ink and spread across screen below image. Take squeegee (squeegee should span just slightly larger than width of image) and pull ink through screen. Best results for pulling squeegee are at a almost a straight up and down angle. A test pull should be done first to check for any discrepancies etc. Take textile and place on platen for desired placement and continue with print.
    7. Depending on type of ink used, curing processes will differ. Be careful removing textile from platen as ink will still be wet. Set to dry or heat cure. Curing pvc (plastisol) ink generally takes 30 seconds at 320 degrees.

It think it works perfectly on your press, because your screens lock into place on the side rails. My last print job gave me issues using the bigger 23x31 screens. I used them precisely because I could fit the back and front designs on this size screens. Instead of having to use 10 regular size screens I only used 5. But! I use the Riley 250. My screens don't lock into place on the sides. So about every 8 or 10 shirts I had to realign one or two screens because they would shift just enough to ruin the cmyk print. I also haven't had the issue you are having with the regular size screens, or at least not yet.

Hi from Germany! We do always puting Tape inside of the Frame - helps a lot to don't get paint in the corners of the screen. But don't use the cheap PackingTape. Nice Video and bigger is better - ask the laydies! ;)

Great info as always. However not all autos use 23x31. Anatol volt and workhorse freedom use 20x28

Will the wide screen work on a Riley Hopkins printer? Mine has a top/center clamp, I saw your setup had side clamps. Thanks for the nice video.

Thanks for all your videos. I’m really new to screen printing. If I have an image (my business logo). My logo is 11.5 inches wide and 5.5 in height. Would I be able to use a 20x24 screen sideways? Or should in just go with the 23x31? Sorry for the newbie question. Thanks for your help!

You could turn the 20x24 on its side . Honestly I would probably ignore what he said and just push a bit harder on the corners of my squeegie, or less off contact.
