    That slow motion of lid is funny, love your video, and this Panasonic cute box is amazing, though I eventually picked up my AX700, thanks for your last video😁

    The Panasonic 580K rocks! Been using one for over 7 years. I just taped up the little side camera with a piece of flat black vinyl wrap so that it doesn't open and begin recording my ugly mug automatically. Also I wrapped the chrome ring on front with the same stuff to create a lower profile. Also would recommend the cheaper (but without the second vlog camera) HC-V380K. Similar feature set. Hard to get right now though!

    I use the 180. The optical system is the same on the 180, 380 and 580. The 380 adds wifi/cell phone link up, which could be useful in a remote camera placement where the camera is in a bush and you are in your car a block away. You can control the video from your cell phone and their app. The 580 has wifi and a second camera so bloggers can insert a second video window of them selves while talking about the main scene. I can't see myself using that. The 180 (when the boats finally come in) will be about $270. The Sony is more cinematic, the color is better and it has cinematic feature you might need, once in a while. 4K makes files that are just too large, tho the video is nice. I have the 180, and multiple batteries and SD cards, with me at all times. My subjects are often urban and less than 100 yards away. I transfer to a laptop or desktop and edit out the irrelevant parts.

      380 and 580 the soft response is not logging. To record on off button response is much better and they got one big advantage over 180 is quick power on. Wifi is a joke.

    The Panasonic HC-V380 is the same camera (just cheaper) as the 580 except it has a manual lens cover and no useless smaller camera on the side of the viewfinder. All the other features remain...including 50 optical zoom. The problem is finding one still in 2021.

    I have been using Panasonic camcorders for years, I actually have 4 (3 SD900 and 1 VXF990) that I use for multi cam shots along with a Sony FDR AX53. If at any time I only take one on a walk it will always be one of the Panasonic's as it will slip in my jacket pocket and is a lot lighter than the Sony.

    does the camera burn in the time/date stamp in the footage? I bought the 380 because of this video, but now I'm seeing the there is no burn in of the date and time. Is there a quick work around, especially when working on a Mac? It seems like such a simple thing though I spent 4 hours and didn't find a workaround. Thank you.

    • @davidnelmsesq
      @davidnelmsesq  Před 11 měsíci

      The camera saves time and date in the metadata. If you want it to be printed out in the video there are a variety of programs people use to do that. This video goes over the process: czcams.com/video/PXFD_gbwxZQ/video.html

    Sony FDR-AX53 4K is also a cheaper option. Also automatic lens cap and smaller. So the best of both worlds in my opinion.

    Thank you David, I wish you describe the cancorder a litle more, I would like to know is the camera have good sound, or if you can plug a mic , how long battery last, if you can plug a power cable for long period of time runing,

    • @smpiggystudio
      @smpiggystudio Před 3 lety

      I just bought an AX700, it has a good sound, but I prefer a lavalier mic(I'm using Saramonic UWmic9) or any external microphone for production. As for the battery, so far I'm not seriously test about it(it packaged with a FV70 but I bought 3 more FV100 from other brand), different capacity of battery will effect the running time, but 2 hours working is at least. But if you use a power cable, no battery is needed, you can run it forever(it's good for small broadcasting or live show).

    You are aware that you can film at night with the nightshot function on the Sony...That alone gives it a huge edge over the Panasonic or other cameras. Let’s say it together... NIGHT VISION!

    • @davidnelmsesq
      @davidnelmsesq  Před 4 lety +4

      The nightshot function works by shining a small infrared light into the gloom of darkness. It is effective out to about ten feet. I've never been lucky enough to be doing surveillance from ten feet away, so I don't consider it to be a breathtaking advantage. If you supplied your own light source it might do a little better, but for one camera against another, all things being equal, I don't see any real edge coming from that.

    • @kumotsu01
      @kumotsu01 Před 4 lety

      David Nelms Also you should know that a 4k frame is 4 times bigger than 1080p so you can crop and zoom your max image and still have a sharp 1080p image. You have just increased your camera potential by doing so.

    • @davidnelmsesq
      @davidnelmsesq  Před 4 lety +1

      @@kumotsu01 Good point. I thought about that after I published the video. Zoom may come out just about even when you factor that in.

    • @james-tm1rm
      @james-tm1rm Před 2 lety

      For effective night shot everyone uses an IR illuminator. I have one with a T75 lens, it easily reaches 500 yards clearly.

    • @james-tm1rm
      @james-tm1rm Před 2 lety

      Now before anyone says that the sony still can't zoom anywhere near that far. We'll you use a scope and adapter. Now seeing as the 580 does not have IR night vision, that rules it out for me unfortunately. It seems many camcorders stopped the super zoom with the advent of 4k, i presume they think people will just crop in after.

    Why in the world you compare Panasonic 580 to Sony FDR AX700????? Panasonic 380 is the way to go. It is the same as 580, but no second camera that you have no need. Panasonic you can even go with Panasonic 180 has the same spec as 380 or 580, but it missing one very important option and it is the quick power on. The Panasonic 180 is good to have as the backup camcorder. However, if you Sony fun boy, the closed by price and quality would be the Sony HDR-CX405 with 30x optical zoom. If you feel like you need better quality, then you go with Sony FDR-AX43 or Sony FDR-AX53 that have the same floating lens fetcher, however it loses in cost.
    The conclusion is that you making absolutely ridicules comparison. Plus who needs 4K? When you in the court room, you showing your video on computer or at best on TV screen. No one needs 4K video files as they take too much space and time to convert. (720 MP4 or AVCHD but not more than 1080 is the way to go)

      I use the Sony FDRAX53. I don’t like the low light capabilities and want to upgrade to something else. Do you recommend anything? I’ve been told to go towards the mirror less cameras. But I need something that can light up a dark street and be able to capture footage for when I zoom in. Any suggestions?

    • @davidnelmsesq
      @davidnelmsesq  Před 4 lety +3

      True, and I'd use it a lot more if the Panasonic weren't so much smaller, lighter and simpler. I use the Sony when I have specialized projects to work on but on the go I always grab what's easiest. And as it is with handguns, the best one is the one you'll carry with you.

      Does the Panasonic burn the date and time to the screen so it's on the final product without 3rd party software?
