    Got into some good fish early in the morning and then later in the day on dry flies! I love coming to this area when I need a confidence boost cause it’s always a guaranteed good time! I was even able to sight cast a woolly bugger to a walleye?!?

    JFK Park - Standing on or beside the discharge pipe from the hatchery. One of my favorite places on planet Earth. They can sometimes be surprisingly hard to catch right there. Haven’t stood in that spot in 20+ years.

      @jonathannoblim7667 majority of the river is not catch and release, just the dam above the signs and one other area

    Pleasant video and well filmed. I haven't been in the Little Red since I floated it with a church group in john boats. :) I moved away and learned to fly fish while living in Colorado. Now that my arm is recovering, I hope to come up and fish for trout again.

    I’m new to fly fishing. I was at the Little Red end of November 2021. It was my first time ever to trout fish. I decided I wanted to do this so I bought everything I would need. Everything. I watched videos on casting. So I practiced. I bought flies, although I didn’t know if I had the right ones. I watched videos on knot hi

    Coming up from Memphis and hitting the Little Red for the first time this weekend. Your videos are getting me excited. Should I throw streamers or smaller flys?

    • @BlueLinerMedia
      @BlueLinerMedia  Před 2 lety

      I usually throw both! I will start the early morning off with streamers, then go to nymphs. Then I switch to really small dry flies when it warms up!

    Caught a 31 inch 12.5 pound rainbow a quarter mile downstream of the JFK ramp this morning on a wooly bugger. Nicest fish I've caught on the LR in a couple years. All the fish I've caught since I started fishing the Red again this season have been really fat. The fish have had a really good summer apparently. I actually caught more nice trout this morning than fresh hatchery fish which is rare. I think this is going to be a really good Fall.

      Look for stones in the water by the waters edge. Turn them over and see what the bugs look like. Get a fly that looks like those bugs!

      I prefer a 3-4wt for the little red. Here is what I was using.

      • Hardy Ultralight CAD 3000

    • @BlueLinerMedia
      @BlueLinerMedia  Před rokem

      That’s the beauty of fly fishing. There are no rules. 4wt is my favorite size for most trout situations. Almost never use a 5wt. A lot of people push for a 5wt if you are using the rod for other species like bass and others. IMO a 4wt is perfect for most trout fishing here in Arkansas. If I’m throwing streamers I’ll just use a 6-7wt.

      There are plenty of access point on the river you can wade fish as long as the dam isn’t generating

    Hey man! I love your video, but why do you purposely put the fish on the reel instead of stripping line in? I’m not trying to be rude, just wondering. Maybe if you stripped the line in once you set the hook it would be a whole lot easier to catch the fish!

    • @beausaunders9458
      @beausaunders9458 Před 2 lety

      On the first part of the video to be more clear lol

    • @BlueLinerMedia
      @BlueLinerMedia  Před 2 lety

      I’m not sure what part you were referring to. My reason is that for the most part I was fishing very close to me and didn’t ever have line pulled before I set the hook which automatically puts the fish on the reel. The reel is always going to be smoother and I was hoping and expecting to catch some good fish that day. All the fish that got to the reel got there because they pull line out of my hands for the most part. I also don’t like tripping over my line and it getting tangled in my legs and net. So that why I like to use my reel haha
      I won’t force a fish to my reel if they aren’t taking out any slack line though….that’s a good way to lose a fish haha

    I decided to Take up fly fishing for trout. I watched videos for months. Learned to cast. Bought all I would need. Watched videos on how to fish for trout. Videos on how to read the water. I went to Heber Springs in late November 2021. I didn’t catch a fish and fell in the river. Got water in my waders and was very teed off. It was my first time but failure will not stop me. I came home and studied even more about trout fishing. I watched more video on how to fish for trout with a fly rod. I learned that I was doing it wrong my first time out. From what I can see from this video you are doing it wrong too. Or are you? You do not seem to be doing all the crap that I have seen on teaching videos. It occurred to me that your video is not a teaching video per say but just a guy out fishing. Seeing what you do is teaching whether that was the intent or not. I don’t see you doing what I see in these other videos. But you are catching fish. Inspires me. Thanks.

    • @BlueLinerMedia
      @BlueLinerMedia  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for the comment! I may or may not do everything right as far as technique. But that is the beauty of fly fishing, there really is no right or wrong way to do things if it is working for you. Instructional video are not strict rule but ways to help you improve your own technique. I would encourage you to keep on trying. And the best way to get used to a fly rod is by trying to catch local fish such as panfish or whatever is near where you are. Time on the water will help you lean way more than only watching instructional videos. Also, if you have the means to, hire a guide. A guide will help boost your learning curve a lot if you will go into the session with the mindset of learning all you can instead of trying to catch a bunch of fish! Hope some of these tips help! It sounds like you have the determination to make it work! Tight lines!

      No matter how much studying you do it doesnt compare to actually getting out there and learning through trial and error. The more time you spend out on the water the better you'll be at fishing and picking up tips and tricks. Its takes years and thousands of hours of experience to be a great fisherman.
