- The brilliant route around Scotland's north coast by touring bike over 10 days in July 2019. Fantastic scenery, great cycling climbs, exhilarating descents and some of the remotest landscapes in Great Britain. An absolutely brilliant trip.

My buddies and I biked the Danube and now have our sights set on the NC 500! Scotland is so beautiful. The Scots are a blast to hang out with! Can't wait!!!!
Watched several of these now, enjoyed this one more than most. Nice mix of tunes and road noise and chatter. RIP Tony
Thank you Neil, that's really good of you to say, thanks for watching and taking the time to post. And thanks for our Tony.
Awesome video, as a fellow Yorkshire man (Huddersfield) I rode this last April over 5 days in glorious sunshine. I wild camped in my bivvy bag for 4 nights. Self supported lone ride. What a ride, one of the best places I've ridden anywhere... Its wild remoteness was unreal. Amazing people and food along the way. What memories. Hats off for doing the hardest 500 miles in the UK 👍👍👏
Thanks very much mate... You're a lot faster than me! 100 miles a day, that takes some doing, great effort. The bike is titanium. It's one of Spa Cycles' own (Harrogate specialist touring bike company make their own), the elite tourer. The saddle is their own version of the Brooks. Beautiful bike, smooth as silk.
Great video. Loved watching this and very informative 🚴♂️
Thank you :-)
Congratulations on doing this! I'm planning to take my EV and do NC500 in 2023. Your cycle was very pleasent to watch, and I'm just jealous I'm not (yet!) fit enough to do something like that! 😁
Great idea to take the EV. You'll love it. Hope it comes off for you. Go for it.
@@Buzzard1968 I made it to Skye and to Inverness. Beyond there it where it gets a bit tougher! 😁
Nice one enjoyed that 🚴
Fantastic video, so beautiful 🥰
thank you!
so far, this is the least rainy video of the north coast 500 iv'e seen!
Amazing ride and a well put together video. Beyond my ability to do the full 500, given you have to av. 50m a day for 10 days , but thinking I could do a few sections perhaps over 5 days. Inspiring stuff, thank you.
Thanks David, doing a few sections over 5 days is a great idea, you don't need to do it all, Met a couple in a camper van, they were taking it in turns to drive sections while the other drove to the mext destination. They could do as much or as little as they wanted. They had a great time.
Nice touch 👌
Those who are in our hearts will never be forgotten. Sorry for your loss and I feel privileged that you shared this with me. And others.
Thank you very much for saying that. I'm glad you enjoyed the film.
Great film thank you. 👍
Great footage, from a novice cyclist from East Yorkshire, would love to do this once the fitness levels are good, only managing 50k per ride atm, liked that cheeky drafting behind that car, every little helps 👍😁
thank you mate, keep going with the riding, 50km is good, and you'll improve.
Really nice video, I’m thinking of doing this later this year, have heard that the ride back down the east coast from John O Groats is best avoided, your experience seems to confirm that !
Yes, the A9 past Wick was horrible!! There are alternatives from Thurso, missing John O'Groats out. Have a great ride.
@@Buzzard1968 Accommodation booked for three of us for the first week in September and we will be heading south at Melvich, going to take it fairly steady over 7 days, really looking forward to it.
Nice Video!!!
Best Regards from Brasil man🚴🏽♂️🇧🇷
Great video! I'll do this next year as well!
The landscapes of Scotland are really breathtaking as it touches the soul. Like its music and folklore does. Rough, honest, rainy then again inviting with the most beautiful weather. Thanks so much for sharing. Brings back good memories after being on Arran. A juwel of an island, greetings from Holland
Well said. You're right about Scotland, rough and honest is a good way to describe it. Haste ye back ;-)
Good video thank yoh
Amazing ride video of NC500 and very informative as well. Would love to do it sometime in near future the entire loop together with Skye and Orkney as well. I did part of them during summer in 2018 due to the wet weather while on the west side at Kyle of Lochalsh after returning from Skye via the bridge. It was my first time cycle touring in UK then but I enjoyed it very much. Thanks again for the brilliant video.
Thank you very much for the comment. Sounds like you had a weather bomb! We had one in the Outer Hebrides last year and it smashed us to pieces :-)
Very good video, thanks for sharing - and a really nice tribute to your brother too. Chapeau 👍
Thank you John.
Brilliant vlog that. Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Spectacular scenery and a great achievement so well done.
Thanks for the feedback. Very glad you enjoyed it.
Absoulty stunning . Well done everyone
thank you!
Very nice, thanks. I'm heading to Thurso next week and riding west - so whenever I heard you talking about "exhilarating descents" I'm thinking looong climb! Great video.
thanks, hope you enjoyed it when you got there.
@@Buzzard1968 I did, thank you very much. Fantastic scenery and lovely road riding (well the bit out to Cape Wrath was a bit lumpy 😉). Beautiful part of the world to ride.
Great video, beautiful scenery! Only have been as far north as Loch Lomond. This is amazing!
thank you
Cracking job mate making the route and a well done to you on the Vlog.
Thank you Jack, nice of you to say.
Good vid mate. Very well made.
Thanks mate.
that was really good! congrats on completing the NC500, iv recently got into bike backpacking and doing my 2nd adventure next week but NC500 seems like the holy grail of bike touring!
Thanks very much! There are some big long distance mountain bike trails in Scotland, straight through the middle of the Highlands.
Brilliant doing the route next year over 5 days cannot wait 👍🏼
Nice one Richard, good luck next year!
Brilliant film, did Bealach na bar on my motorbike and that struggled!! Hoping to do this next year
Thank you! Good luck for next year, you'll love it :-)
Very nice video. Thanks for this made me want to do it as well. I just hope u share as well the places you were staying to sleep. But sill very nice video. Cheers!
thanks, I'll think of doing that next time.
Tribute to tony mate - great video
Great vid guys brilliantly put together amazing trip with good weather could I ask what bikes did yous use for your adventure
Excellent video. Thank you. Can l ask, what is the Gaelic soundtrack? Sounds great 👍
Thanks Gavin, glad you enjoyed it. There's a list of the music in the closing credits..
Sorry. I missed that at the end. I really enjoyed that. Thanks
chapeau
Did you bring a bike lock? How did you secure your bikes overnight or when stopping for lunch?
What kept you ? Si from GCN did it all in three days lol.
Ps was the bike titanium? Brooks saddle? I did the nc500 on my Ti Van Nicholas Skeiron 👌 I was glad of my hydraulic disc brakes on some of the descents!
Yes, it is titanium and a Spa Cycles own saddle, similar design and quality of the Brooks. Descents ae always great!
Awesome film, thanks for sharing, looks like an amazing trip, I am hoping to do this July. I see you also did July despite the midges, are they as bad as they make out? Also considering avoiding the east coast A9...
Hi Paul, thanks for the comment. The midges are bad in places, especially when we camped. Riding on the bike you are not bothered by them.. Staying in hostels you can avoid the worst of them, although hostels are likely to still be unavailable this summer.
@@Buzzard1968 thanks for that, perhaps we consider late May if lockdown is over
Well done and thanks for sharing. I hope to do that ride some day soon. Any way you can share your routes and lodging details?
Locharron, the small campsite in the village. Torridon YHA. Badcaul, Northern Lights Campsite. Lochinver, The Lochinver Bunkhouse. Durness YHA. Thurso Camping and Caravan Park. Orkney: Kirkwall YHA. Wick camping and caravan site. Inverness YHA. If you are on Strava, I can share the route with you....
@@Buzzard1968 Hi, would you be able to share the strava route with me?

Hi James, thanks, no plans to go back, but I should visit, it's been 7 years... do I know you?
