Ace was an admitted alcoholic who had to have Dick Wagner play a lot of his guitar parts on the Destroyer album because of his substance issues, YEARS before he left the band. Simmons put up with a lot, for YEARS, when it came to Peter and Ace. I completely understand where Simmons was coming from. I put together many bands where I had to be the heavy in the band while everyone else partied like there was no Tomorrow. They were hurting what "I" put together with their partying. I'm sure Simmons felt the same way. When you start something that the public is going to see, you want to present the best version of it that you can. When others that are involved with that something don't take it as serious, and it starts to hurt the image of that something, a change needs to be made. Like I said... been there... done that.

I was even a fan during the 80's...until they started singing Michael Bolton soft Love songs.lol KISS did ironically redeem themselves with their best album in a nearly a decade in 1992's REVENGE...with guess who returning to help KISS actually make their best album again since LICK IT UP in '83??...That's right...the person Gene Simmons bashed & trash talked relentlessly in all their interviews & KISS documentaries for a decade...Vinnie Vincent!! He & Paul also trash talked Ace Frehley & Peter Criss for years...until "half" KISS became so irrelevant by 1995 that he decided Frehley & Criss were desperately needed again to get some attention & excitement back in 1995's "MTV UNPLUGGED" which almost immediately led to a long awaited KISS Reunion. The concerts were electrifying & spectacular in 1996/97 plus appearing on practically every TV network & show with the hype of Ace Frehley & Peter Criss restoring the original lineup in full makeup btw....who ironically he so frequently disparaged before...& then as usual...right after the end of the KISS reunion in 2001 which was mega hyped for as much $$ as possible from millions of fans to be the "end" of KISS for all time being the KISS FAREWELL tour of 2000. Gene often trash talked OTHER Rock groups for supposedly NOT being as good as himself or using backing tracks & said KISS would stop performing (again, lol) if the concerts were no longer the "greatest show on earth". But as usual with Gene Simmon's trash talk & criticisms of others...he always seems to do himself what he criticizes everyone ELSE for doing! The 2nd "Farewell tour" in 20yrs which lasted "Forever",lol....for 4 long never ending years...SHOULD have been called the "End of the Singing" tour!lol Remember Gene relentlessly criticizing OTHER groups for sometimes using backing tracks or vocals saying KISS would NEVER lower themselves to doing fake performances??? Well...that's ALL they did for 4 long years on the KISS karaoke tour with Paul lip synching most of the vocals & tons of pre-recorded backing tracks insuring EVERY concert would be note for note 100% in synch when overlapped. Gene & Paul just sold off ALL their massive song catalog & ALL their Rights & ownership to KISS to leech out every last penny for themselves bcuz they knew the gig was up!! Nobody has any respect for anything Gene Simmons has to say anymore...so I think we'd ALL like to see him go on the "End of the Mouth" tour & just shut the f%ck up!!lol

You just described a typical rock musician. First, you have to have an ego to think that people would pay to see you play, even that the bar and level. Most guys start or join bands because of the women that being in a band attracts. The money isn't a lot for a ground-level bar band, but once you start getting regular gigs, the pay isn't all that bad, either. Simmons might get knocked for KISS selling merchandise, but I see merchandise booths at EVERY concert that I go to now. These same bands that were ripping on Simmons for commercializing the band are the same people who were selling T-shirts and posters at THEIR concerts when they saw how much money KISS was making off of that merchandise.

My only real gripe about this video is that Gene Simmons was right about Axl Rose and Vinnie Vincent. They were both always well known for being their own worst enemies.
Simmons and KISS hardly “ruined” Vinnie Vincent’s career and life. He was well known as a diva who was virtually impossible to work with well before his brief tenure in KISS. In fact, several musicians who had worked with Vincent (then known by his real name Vincent Cusano) WARNED Simmons and Paul Stanley about his tendencies, and that they shouldn’t take him into the band.
BTW: your timeline about Vincent and KISS is wrong. He was initially hired to fill in for Ace Frehley in recording Creatures of the Night, THEN hired to replace Frehley (despite the aforementioned warnings from others who had previously worked with Vincent) full time in the band, after being unable to find someone else in time for the tour.
Vincent was fired after the Lick It Up tour, went on to form Vinnie Vincent Invasion (VVI), got fired FROM HIS OWN BAND for almost the EXACT SAME RESONS KISS FIRED HIM (after which what was left of VVI became Slaughter, after lead singer Mark Slaughter), and THEN went after KISS with lawsuit after unsuccessful lawsuit.
As for the hall of fame, two things:
    1. NO ONE other than the original members (Simmons, Stanley, Frehley and Criss) were inducted with the band (just as, for example, Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay weren’t inducted with Aerosmith and John Rutsey wasn’t inducted with Rush.)
    2. Again, Simmons is absolutely right about rappers not belonging in the ROCK ‘N’ ROLL Hall of Fame. Hell, DOLLY PARTON doesn’t belong there (yet SHE was recently inducted). As someone recently said, if they’re going to induct rappers and Dolly Parton, they may as well change the name to the MUSIC Hall of Fame…
Finally, I’ve seen a few videos about Sharon Osbourne. The only thing I have to say about that is who the hell ISN’T feuding with her?!?

Gene Simmons is a product of his environment. The trouble is ego will eat itself if given enough time. Sometimes these rock stars start thinking they are greater than they really are. Some of the legends in Music have become legendary because they didn't allow their ego to rule their lives. I can name a few right off the bat, that are actually down to earth and humble people off stage. Gene Simmons somewhere along the way allowed his ego to control his life and no one else matters. What a wasted life.

KISS didn't NEED to wear makeup on stage, as is evident by the 13 YEARS that they DIDN'T wear the makeup. They had many hits during this period of the band. Now back to my list of bands who wore/wears makeup on stage. The New York Dolls wore makeup on stage. ALL of the Glam bands of the 70's wore makeup on stage. King Diamond wore makeup on stage. Gene wasn't wrong about David Lee Roth needing to retire. I saw him in 2003 and he needed to retire back then or actually learn how to sing. I think that was more of Dave's problem. He doesn't seem to know how to breathe properly when he actually sings all the words so he ends up sounding like he's out of air half the time. When he does a record he can spend time going line by line. Singing live was always a weakness for Dave even back in his prime. He would even work it in as a schtick that he forgot the words so he could take a break from singing. Dave was always a great entertainer but it's simply not the same for a guy in his 50-60s trying to do things that he did in his 20s-30s.
