I think FFII is way too long and unbalanced for a first Insane Demon. The second half gets much harder, the last jump at 99% can be such a chokepoint, and the whole level is three and a half minutes long. Personally, I did Puzzle Trials as my first Insane Demon. The part after the minesweeper section is quite learny but it gets really consistent. The hardest part is probably the triple mode part as the timings have to be much more precise than you think, then the UFO right after that is a bit tricky, but other than that, the rest of the level gets easier. There's just a lot of things to remember.
I would def recommend ISpyWithMyLittleEye as I was going through demons to beat as my first last night, I played ISpy and beat it on the spot. Also got 75% on Phjork that night too lmao

For insane demons, id recommend windy landscape or crazy ii as the popular ones and gregory or tendo, which are less known but are very easy and really good. And if you have already beaten an insane demon, 1929 is a really good level to increase skill.

my first medium demon was called new beginning. its literally like a 9 star modern themed level, with good gameplay, and I don't get why people think its so hard. There is a pretty hard dual at the end but if you practice it enough it gets easy.
My first easy demon is ISpyWithMyLittleEye. Didn't really take long to beat it. It might be unsightreadable at first, but trust me you will get used to the flashes.
Hard demons is a touchy subject, but Steampunk by Vermillion is a perfect hard demon. Included every aspect of 1.9, the gameplay isnt too difficult, the only hard parts are the mini UFO and the final cube section. It is also really fun to play
Well for me I have to disagree with you. I don't think Steampunk should your 1st hard demon because of the hard timings unless your a tryhard. But I would say that it can be your 3rd or 4th hard demon. In my opinion I believe your 1st hard demon should be CraZy, Nine Circles, or Sedulous (if you have a good fps performance).

I would recommend respite as a first easy demon. The level, especially the drop, is very fun.
I think speed racer might be better as a first demon, it can be good for improving at the game while being fun and prepares you for demons later
