    I was called something very insulting by the clerk at my local Ace Hardware store for wanting to purchase an electric chainsaw instead of another unreliable gas saw. I own a few rental homes, so I actually do a full month or two of fire clearing and wood cutting each year. I’ll save my big Stihl for big, downed trees, and will get a 16” Ego for limbing and brushing. Based on your review, with two batteries, I can do as much cutting as I want on any one day.

    Thank you for your solid words and presentation of this saw. I have the EGO "18 saw. I've noticed a difference in it's blade just as you have mentioned. It's not as aggressive as the "20 blade you demonstrated here. However, it gets the job done very well. These saws are nice and boring,
    IN A GOOD WAY.
    I like it when I can go through these cutting jobs without the drama of spending money and time maintaining a gas saw (my misspent youth). I'll take "boring" everyday of the week.

    I find that EGOs cut the fastest when the motor is singing at full speed. I don't push hard at at all. I just swap chains all day long and sharpen them later. Chain sharpness is the number one factor in an electric chainsaw keeping up Touching a running chain in the dirt for one second will cut it's performance in half. If you aren't pushing out linguini noodles or big chips, it's time to either sharpen the chain or swap a new one like I do.

    I have the 16 inch Ego chainsaw and it is great...my friend who is a tree cutter used it and was totally impressed with the performance...he looked at it with doubt but used it and was shocked at the power and speed....it's a good homeowner tool but I don't know about using it to cut trees all day long

    nice review, my brother in law British Columbia owns the EGO 16 inch chainsaw, I own a number of pieces of EGO products and i talked him into buying it, He has a gas powered Stihl 20 inch saw, we cut down 3 trees on his property each being about 50' tall, roughly 14" across, used the Ego to remove all the branches and did almost 2 trees with one 7.5 amp/hr battery, just taking my time and not forcing it, i also had a new chain so i have to admit it did make a big difference, these were softwood trees, 2 cedar and one spruce tree, he and my sister have firewood for a few years, none of it went to waste, EGO builds very high quality products, I have had the 21" lawnmower for 7 years coming this May and no issues, just regular maintenance, cleaning the underside of the deck and sharpen the blade thats it, BTW a sharp blade allows you together much cleaner and neat cuts, my neighbour says you got a sharp blade, yeppers 👍

    I just bought this yesterday and gave it a hot supper today, clearing a ton of property for a relative. I'm in love with the thing, for the stuff I was cutting I couldn't get it to stall out at all. It's pretty heavy, but the performance is more than I'd ever be able to utilize. So much nicer of an experience than gas saws I've had in the past, at least for the application I need one for. I am biased though, as I've loved every ego product I've bought, as they've all been very thoughtfully engineered with a lot of nice small touches that make life better. I just wish their batteries were more affordable, because that's the sour point.

    That seems like a pretty nice saw but I love my GreenWorks 60V 20” saw, it is a beast! I believe there is another 20” saw that is the next level up from this one that has a metal bottom side to it. If I’m correct then that one would be closer matched to my GreenWorks 60V 20” saw. Great review, it does look like a really nice saw!

    My battery died after a year after purchasing. Replacement died after 2 and now they are saying tough luck that it's outside warranty. My string timmer went down and it took 3 months to fix. It seems customer service has gotten pretty bad over the last 8 years I have used their stuff.

    Great video. Are you sure a larger battery would fit there? Looks like the area maxes out at 6a. I have a 10a in my mower and eyeballing it, it looks like it would be way too big. Regardless, this looks like a great saw. Also, please do one of those videos on how to sharpen the chain - that would be interesting to see.

    • @skyhop
      @skyhop Před 2 měsíci

      I don't have a scale, but adding things up with the manual, it's 8 pounds for the power unit, 7 pounds for the battery, and then figure on what ever oil, bar, and chain would get it to. It is stout.

    I did a little quick math, assuming the 6x6's used were the common 5.5x5.5 inch size, ego claims to have cut a little over 4,000 square inches of wood, in your test assuming perfect 12 inch wide logs you cut about 4,400 square inches of wood. Close enough to somewhat validate egos testing for me.

      @@jordanmercredi3740
      Yeah there's definitely a chance. Electric motors have an insane amount of torque & speed.
      Tesla's 2021 model S Plaid have 1,050lbs. Of torque and do 0-60 in 1.98 seconds.
      They have more torque than diesel 3500's and will smoke V12 Lamborghinis off the line.
      ...
      You can make a ton of valid arguments why gas might be the better choice, but in terms of power, it's absolutely able for an electric saw to absolutely destroy a two smoker.
      Ego's earlier models can absolutely hang with 30-40v saws and just from watching this video, I'd argue this saw can hang in the farm/ranch 50/60cc class.
      Again, there's separate arguments for why gas may be better for some people in some applications.
      But the technology is absolutely available for electric to annihilate gas in power.

    • @BenDiscoe
      @BenDiscoe Před měsícem +1

      It's equivalent to a 55-60cc gas saw, as he says in the video. There's nothing magical or unique about a gas engine or an electric motor, power is power. Sure, electric has more torque, but as for how well it cuts wood, you can now buy electric saws that are on par with any gas saw up to around 65cc.

    • @skyhop
      @skyhop Před 2 měsíci +1

      If you live in the pacific north west and live by magnum stihls, yeah it's probably not a good choice for you. Outside of that or extreme commercial work, it'd be hard for someone to justify something higher than this. It's absolutely not a DIYer, couple times a year, kind of product, it's a lot more serious than that.

      Absolutely. This is a farm & ranch 50/60cc alternative that has as many upsides as downsides.
      I think for a large percentage of users looking for a Farm Boss type of saw this has some awesome advantages.
      The battery tool advancements have been rapidly increasing over the last decade & when you see certain perspectives that they're toys or only very light duty, it's usually from an antiquated myopic viewpoint.
      Same guys that think Toyota Tacomas are Jap crap that suck because they can't tow Excavators.

      Nah, more volts is not inherently better. I've had several different major brands of the "top" battery powered tools of this caliber and the Ego power plus tools are without a doubt outperforming all other brands. Design and build quality is excellent, battery performance is awesome, power / tool performance specs are great too. Warranty is good, look is good, etc. ego is an Excellent line to buy into. My first tools were the cobalt 80 volt line and the ego 56v tools such as the chainsaw, string trimmer, blower, etc are way better than the 80 volt tools. The 80 volt tools were not actually more powerful and definitely did not last longer on a charge. They were also fugly
