Also, as strange and creepy as this may sound, I as an urbexer carry a bistouri type knife (Havalon), it is great for filleting, skinning, and sadly enough, but if needed amputations. You'd be surprised at how easy you may come into said situation and have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. I also keep a pair of handcuffs for that reason, as the amputee will more than likely need to be restrained during the procedure. If you have any experience in cooking and butching, or even better human anatomy, that would help very much. I had a friend have to amputate his own self in the bush, and this is my advice from him. All the best guys, and stay away from potential amputation injuries. Always clear yourselves from trees and loose rocks.

@@likwidmagik Not creepy at all! We do all our own slaughtering, skinning, gutting and butchering here, great advice! Best way is to not put yourself in potential danger in the first place. Thanks from both of us

Got to have a poncho or two. They are so lightweight and have so many uses.
If you are caught in the rain it will cover you and your pack. If I was caught in a sudden downpour I would put on the poncho and find a place to set up camp. Once I located a spot I would pull out the other poncho to cover my gear while I got set up.
Ps both mine are camo and make good groundcover or a tarp for top cover.

I took my mag bar out because of the weight. Instead I have scraped of a bunch and keep some in little baggies in my kits.
For my signaling device I have a laser light. Shined into the air it leaves a nice locater beem.

@@GodforsakenCustoms Though I hunt, I've never had to slaughter an animal. I can do everything else, but the up close slaughter, I can't unless it's via a bullet. Shit I'm lying. I've slaughtered chickens, in 2 different ways. But anything bigger, I'm not down. I'll do the rest, however.

May sound odd but I collect dryer lint and pack it tight in a plastic tube (M&M minis tubes they seal great). The lint weighs nothing and it is an excellent fire starter. I also keep loads of steel wool because I use it in the shop, but it too is an excellent fire starter. A 9V battery is what most people use but pretty much any power source works fine, like the power pack you carry.

Not strange at all, great tips, a friend here locally seals his dryer lint in Candle wax, awsome. He may well be along to comment at some point! No dryer here but the steel wool always works a treat. Thanks, glad we could be of interest to you today!!

alcohol cleaning pads that don't take up much space and you can use them to clean wounds or dirt and even light a campfire with a small spark

    • @4randosutube
      @4randosutube Před 3 lety

I also have Vaseline cotton balls, tea candles. The more sources/styles of producing flame, the better. Hand sanitizer is good fire starter too. Even with spark generator.

9v battery and steel wool will still start a fire while being wet , a lighter wont especially if the back up lighter is wet . You have a great kit but a few things off the bat have been overlooked

Good EDC. People should prioritize having a similar inventory in their vehicles. And a reasonable medical kit. One can find themselves in remote areas very easily by vehicle.

I've been living on my homestead since 2017 now, and most of all this is in my grab bag too.
I've been recently upgrading everything to 18650, AA, and AAA rechargeables, even have a radio with a solar and crank charger that runs on 2 18650s.
While those solar power banks are nice, I've found that a larger 25-60w folding panel and a few cheap 7 dollar power banks from walmart do a much superior job at keeping things charged.
I still keep a solar power bank in my tackle box.
Knives, I used to always carry folders, now I carry a fixed blade Mora Companion heavy duty, or a Basic 511 carbon, with the folder being a back up.
Mylar blankets are great for backpacks, but in the truck I keep an Arcturus survival blanket-basically a mylar blanket sewn onto a tarpaulin.
I keep one of those and a USGI woobie blanket/poncho liner in my winter hammock kit, and in my truck all year.
I got the same style folding shovel, but the one with a pick on it too, and a small screw together style one that's the size of a spade, with a small pick. I've used those so many times to dig out tires, even used them both once to dig out a slit trench in a gravel driveway to divert rainwater, since that's what we had on hand in my truck, and we got it done in like 20 minutes. Worth every cent of their cost.
Paracord is in every single vehicle and pack I own, but lately I've also been adding tarred bank line to those kits as well.
In the same space 50ft of paracord takes up, you can fit 100 yards of bank line.
I've also found gaffer tape to be my new go-to tape. Bit pricey per roll compared to duct tape, but everything about gaffers tape just makes it great for bushcraft.
It's a cloth backed tape, so it tears straight, its flat in color and non reflective to light, it doesnt leave residue and glue behind when removed, and can be used for a shit ton of things. Originally it was for waterproofing ammo cans in ww2. Then it took off in the film industry, the A/V industry and in school bus seat repair. I've patched up boots with that tape so many times at work by the end my work boots were more tape than leather.

Well I've been following for a while and been through some rough times together without even knowing it. When you guys packed and headed west I was worried. That gas chugging gramps, not much to your name, but smart people will do what it takes. I've been going through a downswing and rough ass time ever since. Until one day I decided rent isn't being paid next month. Rent is making my dreams happen. Threw some synthetic oil, and got rid of the bald tires, Packed the old monte carlo and headed east. As far on the other side of the country as I can be from you brother. But closer than you'll ever realize. One point I lived in sudbury, 7 hours from inwood. Could have met always wanted to. Might not be a good thing but I see a lot of myself in you. The fight, the resilience. My anxiety is what holds me back. Glad to see some videos again. This trip for me has been a 4000km adventure. Monte has been amazing thank goodness and I'm at home base now, just need an apartment instead of hotels and a car. Being happy and getting closer each day to succeeding is all that matters to me right now. Made this trip on an extreme budget, cooler full of food from my fridge, canned food, canned milk, loaves of bread, blankets, pillows, water and water, and my amazing Yorkie companion Kava. instant coffee is better than you'd think on a car defrost heater. Being these times I have to isolate and still cannot shop here for another 10 days. Have family here that is a major support, but doing this on my own. Thanks for not being gone into the wilderness, I had some days wondering if you guys were even around anymore. Maybe when my trucking license is all done I'll find a west route before your deported lol, or make a journey across the pond. If I can get the ambition, confidence, and skills I will be doing some youtube practicing it's an amazing area here in Newfoundland. My birthplace and home. They can drag me away when I'm 5 years old... but not when I'm 32. Great story you've been telling, keep it up im sure theres bigger things to come for us both. I'll do my best to join the CZcams community soon.

Great job on the vid,and nice kit so far! I love all the paracord. People understimate the need for it so much. Quick hint, I know it's probably not the most accessible where you are, but if you get a vacuum sealer machine, you can reduce your content volume by up to 30%. Also guarantees sealing, Ie for Toilet paper, fire starters, emergency maps, etc. Also this gizmo here is similar to what is on one of your clips, and a great tool. facebook.com/watch/chippercamper/
