Have you noticed the scene in which the doctor examines Danny on his bed. Shelly is dressed and styled to look just like the Goofy Disney toy character which is positioned on Dannys book shelf during the scene. ....a harmless, gullible, kind natured half-wit.
Go back and watch the beginning of the film, when Danny faints in the bathroom. The doctor comes to the house to check on him and ask questions about his friend Tony. During that scene Danny is a bit dazed, talking about a little boy who lives in his mouth. His pants are off (why?) and he’s laying on top of a large stuffed bear with its mouth a bit open. If you’re familiar with some psychoanalytical interpretations of the film, you’ll know there’s quite a bit of evidence supporting the argument that the film is “really about” Jack Torrence abusing his son Danny (we hear about some physical abuse from his mom and the rest is under the surface, with all the oddly placed sexual imagery, plus the phallic nature of Tony’s embodiment as Danny’s index finger curling and straightening- many feel the film is suggesting there was sexual abuse as well). The scene with the bear is seen by Shelly Duvall who is confronting the true horror of her husband’s cruelty and madness at that point in the film. It echoes the bear we saw earlier during Danny’s conversation with the doctor, and it represents the hallucinatory, surreal space where Jack’s true madness lives. Remember when Jack is fighting with Shelly Duvall and he yells, “MAYBE IT’S ABOUT DANNY”? Well, my interpretation is that yeah, most of the odd stuff in the film is about Jack’s abuse of Danny. The bear seems like a direct callback to Danny’s stuffed bear and the traumatic experience of blacking out in the bathroom, when Tony tells him not to go to the Overlook. Tony seems like a coping mechanism for a little boy who doesn’t understand the abuse he has grown up experiencing.

Also the visions/ghosts of the hotel can shine to people as shown throughout the movie but only people who shine can respond. Jack is the only one who ever interacts/talks to them. As far as the contacting Halloran in Miami he was only contacted during the Jack encounter with the lady in 237 and not when Danny was attacked. The whole scene of Jack checking 237 was a sexual/horrific dream Jack had expressing the horror he put his son thru. He was the one who attacked his son in a violent and sexual nature in room 237. Jack asks where are they Grady responds they are around here somewhere I'm not sure at the moment. Another lie they are not around they are dead. Jack than accuses him of killing his wife and kids Grady claims no recollection of that another lie. Grady then explains Danny's gift which is what i believe to be a lie. He tells Jack You are the caretaker you have always been the care taker an obvious lie. He claims his daughter stole matches and tried to burn the hotel down which one can safely assume is a lie just like the accusation he is making about Jacks child attempting to contact someone and being a very naughty boy. Finally his admitting to "Correcting " his wife and kids is a lie by omission, he did not correct them he killed them.
@Dirty Dan Speculation suggests, that the bear's eyes were "shaped" like that to add to the horror effect. Apparently, there _was_ actually a bear shaped mat that was sold exactly like this object at the time (late '70s), but the eyes were round, not shrivelled. The shaping of the eyes in this distorted fashion, plays in to the subconscious of the viewer, that things "aren't right".
Wendy is dressed like the Goofey puppet. Not a doll. A puppet. Wendy is Jack's puppet. She makes excuses for Jack when he abuses Danny, because that's what Jack wants her to do. The whole part afterwards is Wendy's dream where she comes to terms with Jack abusing Danny. The stuff that happens in the Overlook is Wendy's dream based on what Jack told her about his interview. That's why there are so many "mistakes"/incongruities in what happens in the Overlook. Like the TV not having a power cord. It doesn't make sense, except in a dream. Get it.

I have a new perspective on the shining and that is the theme of Native American genocide. No wonder the director went so hard on shelly duvall’s character because she is actually the entire focus of the film. The way wendy dresses, her hairstyle, her looks etc. all are like that of like a native americen and she is basically on a journey to take revenge from jack torrance (white male american) for the oppression their tribes faced. I don’t have any evidence to support this theory but it’s what i think. Right from the start wendy plants a seed into the viewer’s mind that jack is insane by telling the doctor about danny’s arm story as if that is the absolute truth or is it ?
Interesting observations, and you may be onto something. I recall that the Overlook was said to have been built on a historic Native American burial ground, if I'm correct in my recollection, and so that definitely plays into your theory. This was back when films of this type were intentionally left a bit vague, inviting the viewer to come to his or her own conclusions, like those you came to. (Nowadays, audiences demand that everything be spelled out explicitly for them.)
No, this isn’t really about revenge of Native Americans or race at all. Wendy acts in self defense once Jack has completely broken down and tries to kill both her and Danny. She was 100% supportive of Jack and failed to see the harm he was causing to their son even before they entered that hotel. She had to have Jack spell it out for her that he lost his mind. It was Danny who saved himself in the end though.

@@qebler17 The Kitchen scene Chef Halloran shines to Danny by asking him if he likes Ice Cream. Anyone can receive the message from someone who shines but can not respond unless they also have the gift. Danny never responds to him by shining and Danny asking about 137 was not him shining but what he learned from the hotel shining to him.. Since this dream was from his sons perspective he most likely shined for help also in his dream. Just my theory. Got to go I've worn out the S.H.I.N.I.N.G keys on my keyboard.
@@jcarlovitch compelling argument! Easy on the keys tho :D
@@qebler17 Almost forgot the most important evidence Danny can not shine. The whole conversation between Jack and the vision of the other care taker in the bathroom scene. They have a long conversation and Grady tells him his son has a great gift and is trying to use that gift against him by contacting a cook. I believe that to be a lie based on the fact that every thing else he told Jack was a lie. He confirms to Jack he is Grady "Grady Grady sir. That's right Delbert Grady" this is a lie when explaining to Jack early on about the incident the Hotel Manager clearly refers to him Charles Grady. Jack asks Haven't I seen you some where. Grady responds No sir i don't believe so another lie the Grady surely knows Jack saw him in the Hotel scrapbook. Jack asks weren't you the caretaker. Grady denies another lie. Jack asks you a married man. Grady yes i have a wife and kids. This is a very subtle lie he does not have a wife and two daughters he had a wife and two daughters.
I think he was being molested cause he might be the adopted kid, parents are brunette and child is somewhat darker blonde.
Tony is Danny in the future.
Those who have read the book know this 👍🏽
Tony is in Pelican Bay in the SHU doing life.
The bear’s eyes look like the things on the elevator.
Nope. Nor was Danny molested.
@@nofriendzjustaname9337 Tony is the result of a trauma. Do you really believe in ghosts? If so, your eyes are really wide shut.
@@gilliatt82 I don't believe in ghosts, but this movie is about ghosts, anything further is just projecting.
@@gilliatt82 you're an idiot LOL
@Dirty Dan
Speculation suggests, that the bear's eyes were "shaped" like that to add to the horror effect.
Apparently, there _was_ actually a bear shaped mat that was sold exactly like this object at the time (late '70s), but the eyes were round, not shrivelled.
The shaping of the eyes in this distorted fashion, plays in to the subconscious of the viewer, that things "aren't right".
thx op. I know there is scene with Ann Jackson but it does not include in my version, that's why I check the youtube!
Tony is da shit.
💩❤✨
Just notice that they even didn't show this scene in the movie or even on the DVD
wth this edit cut out the whole thing about the parental abuse by his father. that BS. :) That version is better.
Get it.
or a rag doll
the hell
Well, that could be your own interpretation but that's not what the real story is about.
Eeeeeh Kubrick was already a genius. You don't have to make these stretches for him.
The film has nothing to do with the main theme of the book.@@joelrivera9954
The scene with Tony Burton (of Rocky fame) is also cut in the new dvd version. I remember these scenes in an old VHS I have though
That ain't right!
the old woman reminds me at the old woman from x-factors episode 'devils eyes'.....its funny cause in this sequence of shining, danny wears a bugs bunny t-shirt.....in the movie 'platoon' the character 'bunny' has a tattoo with an bunny and red eyes ....
I remember watching this
No framed pictures or posters on any of the walls. Not family pictures, not even random pictures of flowers or anything. Weird windows too, no window frames. It looks like a preschool building, rather than someone's home.
Poor Wendy :( poor girl

I wonder if he actually stayed in bed all day.
What do you guys think? Did he actually stay in bed all day? Tell me what you guys think
Never scene this scene before
0:29 This is probably AFTER Jack chased Wendy up the stairs or something.
No it wouldn't have been. This was before they went to the hotel
This scene is not complete. What happened?
@0:00 kook aid man be like “OH YEAH!”
The therapist woman has a nice soothing voice...but it's so sad to think there is nothing supernatural about this film at all...and its really about molestation 😢😢😢
the last video made me still a little bit
This is seriously freaky. WHYY does she have his pants down and WHYY are they staying down like that???
She was probably giving him a physical examination since she is a doctor
@@carmaryllis If you aren't aware, some dumb and impressionable fans think Jack molested Danny, cus of a fan theory that I find to be a huge stretch. Most likely anyone who see themes of child molestation is merely projecting themselves onto the movie.
@@nofriendzjustaname9337
Why is it dumb? There seem to be a lot of hints (and I'm not talking about Danny's rocket sweater). This scene about Tony being in Danny's mouth doesn't make sense, or his pants off, or the overlays of the elevator with Danny screaming, etc.
@@TheKnoxvicious Cuz those are what pedos would assume, cuz it's what they want. Doctors used to make house calls, kids didn't wear pants in bed and Tony is literally Danny from the future.
@@nofriendzjustaname9337
Tony is Danny from the future in the books, that's confirmed - but what is this thing about pedos being the only ones to assume that? The dialogue is what's stranger than the no pants thing plus the mag article
Tony is here red rum
Danny is such a weirdo in this compared to the book.
Tony is in a prison/asylum like institution. Tony wants Danny to free him so he sends Danny on a mission to free him from prison.
Does anyone else see goofy in the background. This is a Warner bros movie and it has a Disney character in it.
Danny also wears a Mickey jumper
They're just different companies who both happen to animate cartoon characters.
There's probably little to no legal - OR business ramifications - for showing one's creations in another's production.
[Now I'm not going to be able to get that out of my head].
I don't understand why the doctor wants Danny to stay quietly in bed for the rest of the day. I don't think any child his age wants to be in bed all day. That's something you tell someone who's really ill, not to someone with psychic episodes.
'70s psychology.
Well she didn’t know that and she was probably worried he might have another black out so she wanted him to stay in bed
Most likely the doctor thinks Danny had random epileptic episode, and in case he gets another one, it's better for him to lay down and rest as the second seizure might be worse than the first one which was just a "blackout"
@@mrj.kottari8453 wonder if he actually stayed in bed all day. Do you think he did?
Why didn't he mention his vision of the blood in the elevator?
The other comment is right, Tony is also not an imaginary friend, but if actually Danny himself in the future Shining with how younger self. Hence the reason Tony feeling concerned but also not concerned at all.
Kubrick was smart. Im not. From what I remember hearing he liked to jack with Shelly Duvall. Shelly is cute. Kinda goody cute. Big front teeth, too. See goofy on the right wall? Almost mirroring Shelly against the wall. Their clothes match. Didnt you always think her clothes for this scene were kind of goofy? Danny's shirt matches too. Same with the art thing on the floor next to the door. Or is this a jab at Nasa's colors? Lots of blue and red. Kinda strange her watch is on the outside of her sleeve, too. Her outfit while visiting the hotel was very stylish- not goofy.
I hope one of her rich hollywood friends sees to it she is taken care of.
I'm here because of the new movie starring with obi wan Kenobi
Read about The Wendy Theory before watching this scene. It will explain a lot. Just look at all the clues here that he gave us of who the real abuser is. Amazing scene.
what is the timestamp of this scene in the movie?
(and i can't believe this was cut from the movie! it's crazy to me! leave the vision the actual director had in mind stay in one piece!!🤬🤬)
If i remember correctly it's right after Danny gets a vision in front of the mirror of the overlook hotel
I wish happen in the movie when Danny is ridding his bike through the hall he runs into two of the grims who are standing in the hallway where the two creepy girls were or after he runs into the creepy girls he turns his trike around and runs into the Grims and the Grims reach out for Danny saying in a deep hollow or fern or creepy voice COME BOY ITS TIME TO GO or COME BOY YOU BELONG WITH US NOW and Danny turns his bike around and rids away he tell his mom and dad what he say the Dad searches the whole hotel or just the era where Danny saw the grims there gone the father assumes Danny was just messing around and they call the psychiatrist to talk to him and Danny tells her what he saw and she tell the parents that Danny being in a Hotel this big with no other kids is causing the boy to see things that are not there or so she think and the parents pay it no mind and here what happens near the end like when the father is possed buy the sprits and goes crazy he kills the mother and then shoots himself and Danny is laying in his room on his bed in his cloths because he is bored and he hears someone come in assuming its his mother but he hears this deep voice saying to him Come Boy It Time To Go and Danny open his eyes to see four Grims again and he says in a stunned tone I knew You Guys Were Real but one of the Grims reach down and grabs Danny and scoops the boy in his arms and carries him away to 237 where they teleport him to there dimension or when the father kills the mother in the lobby then shot himself Danny who is laying in his room hears the racket then he comes down the lobby and see his parents dead and I stunned horrified like any child would be and has just stands the Grims show up from behind him and one grabs him and says In a deep voice Come Boy ITs Time To Go and they carry boy away to room 237 or Danny just wondering around the hotel and after both his parents are killed and he runs into the Grims and they grab him and take him away or his mother tends to take him away from the hotel because his father is not well but when she goes to let the father know she taking there son away for a while he kills her then kills himself Danny is waiting for his mother to come but the Grims show up and grab Danny and says in there Deep Voice Come With US Boy Your Ours Now they take the boy to 237 but when walking down the hall they unzip Danny Jacket and take off his scarf his hat and his sneakers throw those behind them on the floor or Danny out sledding when his parents get killed and get he comes in the hotel they are already dead and the Grims grab Danny and kidnap him either way Danny parents are dead and the Grims Kidnap Danny and carry him down the hallway to 237 when walking down the hallway Danny Yells Help Mom Dad Put Me Down You Weirdoes Let Me Go and after the Grims Bring Danny into room 237 they carry the boy into the closet close the door then you see light shinning under the closet door and you hear Danny voice saying Whoa then after the light go disappear the door slowly open and the closet is empty Grims are long gone with Danny.

Sorry for my english, I'm French and English is so difficult :')
