"I thought you were a waiter" 😂
AMULYA MISHRA old lady grantham was savage🤣
I laughed so hard from that line
Still cracks me up, every time. 🤣🤣🤣
My favorite line!
Still gets me every time I rewatch that episode lmao too good!
“I’m so sorry. I thought you were the waiter” still tickles me lol
Did anyone else notice mary wearing that the “yummy” dress of the fashion show later? Loves it
Its gorgeous. I would wear it today!
@0:46 and @03:05 ?
I didn’t!
Great catch!
"I'm going upstairs to take off my hat."
'Just in case you wondered what happened to it....'
When wearing a hat, they kept it on at ALL times. Removing a hat would obviously display the dreadful hat hair concealed beneath. Upon returning home, & in no more need of the attire, they retreated to their room & removed their hat privately. There, they would retouch their hair, before forcing anyone to bare witness to such a hat hair atrocity! 😂 😂 Can you even imagine? Still.... I feel sorry for them, losing the only way they’d ever known. I’m certain they’d be appalled by my pity. As I’m not of position or wealth to sympathize. I still hurt for them....to watch it slip away between their fingers & w all that money I fluency and power, not be able to stop it. How sad.
Love how wearing black tie back then was considered informal and inappropriate. What would they say nowadays with our hoodies, pjs and sandals everywhere 😂
They would have an absolute coronary! They would be so appaled. That is partially why England can't stand Americans. They assert that we have no class. Me in my tee shirt and blue jeans always, they might have a point. Ha.
Even at weddings😩😩😩
I want to wear high fashions of those ladies as they showed how a proper lady ought to dress. Complete with hair up, hat on, heeled shoes, corsets, starched petticoats, long skirts, and parasols. That is the idea of a real lady who knows how to look actually presentable to society and she will be scorned or disgraced or shamed for showing her thighs as it shows she is a woman with......loose morals. Keep the crop tops and booty shorts for the club and dress properly or else society will look at you and think you're something you're not.
If they saw one bikini they’d faint
Yes... Even in the 50s, people went to baseball games in 3 piece suits and dresses
some dresses were actually SPECTACULAR. but some of the accessoires like the necklaces or the headbands were even more fabulous
Why were they so down on black? Chanel had invented the LBD by the time the Titanic went under, or soon after -- the jewelry for mourning was spectacular, thanks to the late Queen Victoria!
@@foxycinnamon7307 chanel didnt come up with the idea of LBD until 1926, the Titanic sank in 1912. See this video on the rules of society when it came to mourning fashions czcams.com/video/PFbyzRkvfOE/video.html
“I’m going upstairs to take off my hat.” I need to use that excuse more often
Carlee Whitlock Bette Davis in “The Cabin in the Cotton (1932)”: “I’d like to kiss you, but I just washed my hair. Bye...”
Lady Mary in her riding gear with that hat in netting is everything!
I saw a photo of Mary and Edith at Disney World in jeans and t-shirts and though, "Oh how the Dowager and Carson would disapprove."
Seeing Edith on a red carpet in a rather chic mini-dress showing her gorgeous legs - Carson would have had kittens!
@@foxycinnamon7307 "wouldve had kittens" 😄😄 ! What a delightful expression!
No, you saw a photo of actresses. Learn to differentiate fantasy with reality.
@@headphonic8 lighten up lol I believe they were, what’s the word... joking, perhaps
I wouldnt mind if someone described me as 'a cross between a Vogue fashion plate and a case of dynamite'!
"Is there anything more thrilling than a new frock?"-me whenever I buy new clothes lol
Something Old...Using some else's money.💳 Something New...My wardrobe.👠👗 Something borrowed...The time🕓 I spent going shopping. 😊
Imagine us all dressing like this in today's world! I love the classiness of it all
Sure but remember only rich people could dress like that,
@@alexia8434 rich people could afford more. but even the working class dressed in suits and hats. It was THE WAY
I love Sybils uniqueness❤
@Ber P. That's cruel - Paris was never so classy. Why Matthew didn't give her the once over twice escapes me: she was so pretty! And Mary was la belle dame sans merci...Well, belle mademoiselle, at any rate.
Big applause for the wardrobe department
One of my favorite things about the show….the costumes 🤩
I‘m a Chinese. I started to watch Downton abbey since I was in high school three years ago. I adore the accent and the decency of the people in the scene so much!
As a Brazilian, I can say that the fashion style is incredible - the gradual change from the Victorian to the Roaring Twenties are indeed an excellent point of transition sern in dressing and costume.
Those dresses are the reason why i need to learn how to sew 😍
Check out Bernadette Banner's channel - you won't be disappointed.
I burst out laughing when Mary called that dress 'yummy'
I really love Mary's ands Sybil's clothes
I think those are the best!
The dowager countess kills me with those one liners. She just knows what to say and when to say it!!!! Precisely!
Such beautiful clothes- my favourite fashion era in spite of the formality of it all.
Allison Kouimtsoglou-Gale me too!! Wish we still dress like that nowadays.
I always go back and forth between this era being my favorite, or the regency era. Regency is my certain fave for mens clothes.
Why are all the costumes in
Downton Abbey so nice?
The best Professionals and Budget.
What LOWE sonia said + extreme attention to detail and creativity on the part of the wardrobe department.
The mid 1900s post WW I was the Golden Age of Fashion and Design. The strict rules of the Victorian and Edwardian era are stripped off and the Freedom of Curves and Lace and Corsets are being snipped, stripped and thrown away. Fast forward to the 21st century and Fashion is falling backwards to more conservative and unconventional ways of Style. #BoldandBeautiful
Only for the upper classes though, but those clothes sure are dashing!🎩👒
Money doesn't hurt!
I love how the dowager and mrs. Crawly force Branson into a coat , and tell Mary's husband to be that he has no choice too, like typical family matriarchs looking out for the younger ones 😂😂😂😂😂
The clothes are so beautiful. I wish we still dressed this way today. It was so thoughtful. These days the only thought is "Can I wear my pajama pants and slippers?"
Changing clothes three or four times a day, so much so that you need someone to help you? No thanks.
mgeek1
The new styles and cuts of the 20s did not require maids since there was no corsetry and the garments were composed of fewer pieces than Edwardian dress and with less shape, so they could be easily slipped on and off. Anna alludes to this when she packs dresses for Mary to take with her to the hotel with Gillingham; everything she gives Mary can be taken off and put on without help. People also pulled back on regular clothing changes after the war. You would have day clothes and evening clothes, same as we do now. You would change for special activities such as shooting or riding but that’s about it (arguably we also do this now with sportswear). Even in the series, Edith once comes to dinner in her day clothes and this doesn’t cause much disturbance.
Very few people have the money to dress like this...and that was how it was in Edwardian times as well.
I bought my father a vintage robe and pajama set from the 30's - had it tailored as a 60th birthday gift: kept the pajamas, returned the robe. It was: "Too fancy, fabric too slippery to sit in [his] favorite chair, & too hot to wear in bed reading before going to sleep." Plus it reminded him of his dad - v. sharp dresser. Some styles aren't for everyone. .:sigh:.
@@foxycinnamon7307 Despite all else...The fact that the Gift came from his daughter and the effort to make sure it was just right was Far more gratifying than anything else. Plus it inspired Happy memories of days gone by. 😎
I love Cora’s hats!
Me too the one for the flower show in season 1 was gorgeous
People dressed so well back then. Now it’s like we’ve given up on life 😂
These outfits and ensembles are so fabulous I can't believe no entrepreneur has put out a line of DA style clothing. Everyone I know would love to purchase a copy of one of these stylish frocks.
Just one of the best videos on CZcams. Period.
One of the best period videos on CZcams?
There should of been more of Edith, her clothes were absolutely fabulous in the later seasons!
Agree she went from looking fine to gorgeous to fabulous and splendid as the series progressed. She had the best style in downtown abbey
She did have some great costumes as the series progressed but I think Mary encapsulated the typical decade well. The androgynous styles, such as the haircuts and figure, were more suited on Mary. Edith dressed in a bohemian way that I enjoyed though.
I bet a lot of the clothes are vintage. They must have spent a fortune on costumes. I'm so glad they did. Fabulous!
How I love Downton Abbey! Thanks!
Goodness, how far we have fallen from fashion decency. Thank you DA.
I saw so many of these pieces in person at the exhibition. It was a dream especially seeing the wedding dresses!!
The importance of dressing. Superb ❤️
so beautiful end elegant!
Wonderful fashion they are wearing on them, sticking by of the times!
Loved the costumes!!
Love Downton abby ♥️♥️♥️
0:45 3:05 i noticed it only now!
What do you mean??
The dress from the fashion show. Yes it was my first time noticing it too
She wore the suit while out working with Tom.
More seasons please
I'm SO glad to see Mr. Jack Ross in this!!! He and Lady Rose look SO beautiful dancing together!
I love all these dressings ! Dresses especially are gorgeous !
The clothes are magnificent!! By the way, anyone wondering what other shows have fabulous clothes should watch Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries. Great clothes, and great show as well.
“Oh yummy”
“I’m going upstairs to take off my hat”?????? is this something that requires going all the way to your bedroom to do wtf lol
There might've been hat pins involved. Also it's a similar expression to freshening up, meaning that she might give her hair and makeup a once over and maybe change into "house clothes".
kay-ash
I might start wearing hats just to have this excuse to have a break from people for 15 minutes!
Well....one wouldn't want to be immodest.
kay-ash
What would she have done with it if she didn’t take it to her room? Left it in the library? Barbarous.
@@tacosmexicanstyle7846 maybe give it to maid and ask her to care about it?)
The costume set is brilliant, brilliant for every episode. Though I would have liked to have a bit more scarfs for the ladies.
I love all the clothes and costumes!!
Love, love, love!
I need more videos like this
If I could like it again, I would.
Always love Lady Mary Talbot's Style
As much as I love watching DA: I can't even imagine how stressful it must have been to have dinner.
All dressed up, always being careful with soup and sauces, eating with gloves.
Everybody watches you how and how much you eat.
Afterwards hanging around with the family, and in the late evening, you undress with the help of your staff.
I just love being on the couch in my night gown, having sandwiches and spaghetti with lots of sauce and a towel on my chest.
Later on maybe some crisps while I put on my thick socks and get my cosy blanket. 😊
It’s the downfall of aristocratic life: etiquette, manner, dress code, and ritual.
lovely
Outstanding costumes!
Che belli !!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Perfect !!!!!!!
Just wat hed the newest episode in Finland with mom and it is brilliant!
Maria Lindell I’m watching it this summer with my mom too! 🇫🇮
I'm watching it with my mother too, it's absolutely lovely^^
beautiful downton fashion
*This fashion review is incompletebwithout The Dowager being accurate*
I love the side eye between Mrs Levinson & The Dowager - I must change for the theater / Yes, you should /
Whoo, Shirley MacLaine with the stink eye LMAO!!!!
God... Mary is the most beautiful and elegant women.
But an absolutely horrible person.
@@rosiesims4180 comoon she is not.
rosie sims compared to some other women in the show, she is not
lol this is great
Lady Rosamund Painswick !
I just noticed, the dress Mary calls "yummy" she's later wearing at 3:05 in this video
Lmbo I love the line oh I thought you were a waiter.
I think I’m the only person who does not like Mary’s 20’s bob? The duck tail is just odd.
she’s so beautiful but that hair makes her look like Johnny depp as Willy Wonka .
@@christinecho779 It definitely looks better from the front.
@@christinecho779 oh lawd, now i can't unsee that
Foxy Cinnamon I know. But it made her look more sophisticated tho. But in the movie her hair looks really off 😂
Ironically Black makes Mary shine
The color and cut of a fox hunting also identifies where you are in the food chain.
👏
💞💞😻😻😍😍
i never watched the series but i loved the movie. this must have been vey expensive to produce.
It’s actually not as expensive as Hollywood’s blockbusters, but the costumes and jewelry are precious indeed
I think it's funny that Mary said she hates black because she wore it an awful lot.
Lisa Gray People kept dying? 🤷🏻♀️
@@ladyfoxwf1075 Ahaha true. Sadly. But I was talking about when she wasn't in mourning.
Especially after Matthew's death but that's the mourning colour so...
@@lisagray6148 Yes I see what you mean. Maybe she was jsut sick of wearing black in mourning and that is why she said she hated it at the time.
At the very least, let's revive the fashion of headbands, shall we? 😍 :25 to :29
“Eoh ... Yummy.”
😘
Back then Black Tie was informal compared to White Tie.
Sometimes I feel that when I bought clothes, I look a lot like Mary.
My favorite wasn't here. Mary in the black sequined gown and black gloves!!
The clothes companies must have had a time between hey day and pulling their hair out. Ha.
I want those comfy loose clothes back... just less expensive and the people less squeamish about colour, patterns, jewellery, cut etc...being reserved for occasions.
It must have been very hot 🥵 during the summers in those clothes.
0:44 Angelina Jolie dupe! Lol
people dont dress like that anymore. We all look like bums with our raggedy jeans and faded t shirts
Старшая дочь ровесница матери?
