The obstacle is the way. I first heard this saying from a podcast or video I saw you speak in a few years ago. It really changed how I look at challenges, and all the challenges I have faced in my life. It's made me grateful to have lived through an incredibly hard, difficult, tragic childhood - I know I'm the person I am today because of it, and I'm happy about that.

“Memento Mori,” or translated in English, “Remember you must die.” The point of this reminder isn’t to be morbid or promote fear, but to inspire, motivate and clarify. The idea has been central to art, philosophy, literature, architecture, and more throughout history. As Socrates says in Plato’s Phaedo, “The one aim of those who practice philosophy in the proper manner is to practice for dying and death.”

I'm 17 and I accidentally taught myself stoicism before I even found out about it, after my parents split up in a very big argument on the 23rd of December 2019... my Xmas was still amazing and I slowly taught myself stoicism from there on. But I only found out about it 3 months ago... it feels good to know that I'm not the only one who felt like this, for a while I was confused on why I thought like this. But now I'm doing great, my life's so great even when I'm in such a bad place I can still find happiness in daily life and work on myself for the better.

When I am in traffic I never think of it as a contest or a race. I am almost never in a rush. I take my time. I enjoy the trip. If someone cuts me off I may get a bit annoyed. But there is zero anger zero rage. I do not assume other drivers will do anything. I go slow and defensive. Works.

The hardest one for me was ego is the enemy. With dysfunctional parents I was imprinted with a false sense of self. To compensate I developed a mythology and an ego. For nearly 10+ years I struggled to find happiness and connection because of it. The ego creates a hall of mirrors: the more you look for your own reflection, the less you're able to see the exit door or see others trying to help you.

I had an issue with a customer that received the wrong product and was going to cost me almost $300 to ship and restock. It was a combination of errors on several levels to. I had to work with manager of the company who was able to redirect the product to a different location for use in another venue and would cost me nothing.
At first it troubled me, but then I did my best to work through the problem to find a solution with someone that could absolutely help. Now I get it.

I just bought 2 of your books. I'm 100 percent on board with stoicism! Philosophy was one of my favorite classes in college. I have my bachelor's in Psychology and so I have a lot of interest in all philosophy, it's our starting and ending blocks in understand the mind and individuals.

Go with the flow, do not force anything....be like water and flow. Look for love in all people and situations. This is how I live, it takes practice and its getting better, its actually quite fun remembering to check myself when I begin to judge and doubt others and situations................

Amor Fati and the "obstacle being the way" are for sure the most interesting to me because of this episode of "Scrubs" I watched. You see the Janitor and JD had a problem to work through and when JD asks the janitor what his plan was, the Janitor replied,"Everything works out for me." I thought this was a bold and powerful way to look at life and obstacles and now it's interesting to note that the writers were probably sending a lesson in stoicism :-)
