  • The mechanic replaced the brake pads on my BMW 128i. Although, he did not replace the brake pad wear sensors. As a result, the BRAKE light was continually illuminated on my dash. Instead of replacing the brake pad wear sensor, I disabled the sensor by shorting the sensor wires. This tricks the vehicle into thinking the brake pads are always at maximum thickness.
Typical BMW brake pad sensors warned me much too early that new brake pads were required. Significant brake pad life remained. I will now instead rely on the brake pad squealing sounds to indicate that new brake pads are needed.
Learn in this DIY video how to disable the brake pad wear sensor on your BMW. This how-to is applicable to many BMW (and non BMW) models. This includes BMW 1, 2, and 5 series.

The sensors are notorious for being faulty. Further, even when they do function, they notify much too early that brake pad replacement is needed. I can easily learn if brake pads require replacement by listening for brake squealing.
