Thanks for the shout out Leland. "Don't Lose My Number" is one of my favourite videos of all time, never mind the ones Jim Yukich and I did for just Phil and Genesis! It was a lot of fun to make in Australia. BTW George Miller didn't help us with the Road Warrior segment, that was Dean Semler our Director of Photography/Cameraman who also DP'ed the Road Warrior movie (later he won an Oscar for "Dances With Wolves."). I am glad you let people know how hard Phil works at his craft - Genesis too! Stay safe!
Nice comment, great interaction to come across!

Greetings from Perth,Australia
Paul Flattery Thanks for the info. You and Jim were the best in the biz....
As a bassist myself, there is no one in the music business that would aspire to emulate more than you, Mr Sklar.
You are a bassists bassist. Your lines are always so perfectly tasteful and solid. Not flashy but simply perfect for the song.
I enjoy your conversations with your CZcams audience as well.
Exactly
Sklar, Levin and Vega are my big inspirations. The best of the best make me pay attention to the notes they *don’t* play.
Lee certainly has great feel for the low end
You haven't met Rick Robertson, but damn, Leland can play!
Ditto. Same here. I really look forward to your posts, Mr. Sklar.
Never realized how cool the bass line was on this song. That's BAD ASS!!!
Just saw the documentary "The Immediate Family". This song really gripped me, watching Leland Sklar perform magically. Now revisiting a lot of LP's stored in the basement. Such good music back then.
So appreciate you sharing your uniqueness and amazing talent. You inspire me as a new bassist player learning at 70. Never too late eh
The power of the internet never ceases to amaze me. A total pro and legend giving us his up close and personal take ...its amazing. Thank you.
1000%
This was never a favorite song of mine, until hearing this; specifically, hearing this bad-ass bass part!!!🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Yessss!
Beautiful Leland you rock been watching you & phil over 55yrs i got all phil songs👀😂✌👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❤👌
Just tanks Leland for what you play and for what you share with us. Thanks to people like you, quarantine's a little less painful. Cheers from northern Italy :)
i dont play bass but this person is one of my favorite musicians of all time Class A
Great taste! This guy is a living legend who has played on literally TENS of thousands of recordings!
The world is somehow way less fucked up with Leland here.
I have been London for a second time in summer 2017 and i had a pleasure to went in a concert at Royal Albert Hall 2 hours after I arrived in London. You re amazing! Thanks to do my quarentine better! Regards
Hey lee. I often return to this video, when I hear this song on my playlist. Such a great song and you playing along is even more🎉🎉🎉🎉
Suddenly found this on CZcams and thought , yes I recognize him,I'll have a look.
Well I've watched 4 or 5 now, what a lovely, intelligent guy and his Bass skills are brilliant.
A real joy to watch, stay well and safe.
How lucky I am. My idol is in my living room and He is showing me that how He played these songs. Which I tried to learn and play last 20+years.
Thank You Sir. God Bless You.
I agree - this truly is a blessing for all of us Sklar appreciators :-)
Thanks very much for this. Great song. Fair winds and following seas to all.
Hi Leland. I want to thank you for coming to Uruguay and for being part of a dream come true for my family and dad that is not with us anymore. But I treasure those moments deeply in my heart. It was back to november 2007, here in Montevideo, Uruguay. You and the band (Toto) were wonderful that Spring’s cold night. ♥️🎸🎵✌🏻
Carry on, Lee; you're helping us all so much with your posts. Bless you for the positive influence you're sending into the world.
I think this was the last thing I expected to find from YT during these times but definitely one of the best surprises. Could watch your playing all day. Long live Mr. Sklar!
True Legend! I Played this song and Sussudio (among others) as Lullabies (Volume was not to high anyway...) to my then born Daughter (1985) hoping to play with her some day...she turned to be a great Pianist then left the Piano and became a Doctor... now here in Italy (as all Doctors in all the World) she is in the middle of a storm...and especially now I remember often that times ..
Du bist der Beste Bassist . Danke für die besten Jahre mit Phil . Danke !
It is so nice to see you out here my friend, I’ve known of you for many years and finally I get to find out that you are American and not English like I originally thought. I look up to you and I’m so happy to see you making videos out here. Keep up the good work. ( ^_^. )
Don't watch him play, close your eyes and just listen!! BAD ASS
Half the fun is watching his amazing technique!!♥️
I spent the last few weeks learning this song and making my own play along. Such a fun one, thanks for making this video and sharing stories about the song!
Cheers from Australia mate your playing was perfection its fascinating sitting back with a few beers watching this and taking me back to my childhood.
This, folks, is the reason Leland is on so many amazing records and tours. He's the whole package. To hear the story about the tree shows what type of person he is. And his groove, tone and vibe are so on point it's just a pleasure to watch. Leland, I'll always remember the time you and I had a slice of pizza across the street from NAMM in Anaheim. So good!
he sucks
Alpha Omega shut up, you fucking twat waffle.
Alpha Omega Jerk!
@@glengamble526 Did you 2 libtardo resisters that are loosing the cause just cry? typical lol
Alpha Omega why are you here? If you’ve nothing good to say don’t say it eh?!
No need to apologize, Leland! We appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Watching you play is an inspiration to this aspiring musician. Thank you.
Someone please pick my jaw up from the floor!!! What an incredible oportunity to hear a legend play it like he always did... Mr Sklar.. Thank you so much!!
ive been a bass player for about 25 years and ive never had 1 bass player I looked up to untill i heard about you... you are a legend
Thanks Lee - I play bass in the Phil Collins Experience with Dean Edwards (Deano) as the 'Phil'. I've studied your bass lines with great interest but, it's great to hear them 'raw' and the little different nuances and licks, that have evolved - a great inspiration (and education) for me. I also play a Dingwall (ABZ 5) which I really love; punchy, warm and clear - the business! I'm really happy that you're doing these vids for us; I'll be tuning in daily (pun, incidental). Thanks again and 'let's be careful out there' as Michael Conrad once said. Kindest regards, Chris.
Thank you from my heart Mr. Sklar ! Just for doing this and just be you. Please stay save.
That is so 'in the pocket'... Absolutely enjoyable to watch maestro 😎👍
Mr. Sklar seems like a very nice person.
Very tasteful bass work. I really like how it shows how locked in and aware he is with the drums and percussion, but also how he weaves around the vocals and finds the perfect places to tuck in and not sit in front of anything.
Thanks Lee..really appreciate your Talent and Caring for people, You have a lot of heart and soul, much needed in the world we live in!
Cool shirt. Well done! Wow it is heartbreaking to see a grand old tree fallen. Thanks again for the videos. Love your perspective on the music and life in general.
Love what ya do Leland!!! I listen and watch most everyday and never disappointed. Thanks for the memories!! Maybe someday I will run into you in an airport somewhere. Looking forward to more Leland!!!
Rosie...
That sounds awesome I've ben listening to Phil Collins music for years I grew up with it I would love to have his autograph keep up the awesome videos
Thank you so much for this, my whole life I have watched you pop up all over the industry but have never heard you speak. This is just really great stories and your amazing playing. In this time....I couldn't have asked for a better thing to watch, enjoy and learn from. Thank you again.
Leland I want to just wish you a beautiful Easter Sunday...I'm honored to able to follow you and your escapades. My best to you, Maureen and the pups...you keep my smilin' and happy...
That was freakin amazing! The stories followed by unbelievable playing. What a gift.
Leland, I am 53 years old, and a musician....altho no where near the skill level of you.
Just when I think music, talent wise, is dead....YOU put out kick ass videos like this. I remember these songs when you recorded them,, and its so nice to see you rocking and so full of wisdom at 72. My friend, hearing your stories of "Phil" was so refreshing.
Many more years of health, happiness and stellar bass playing for you!!!
12:19 Hell Yeah!!!
Thanks Mr. Sklar. Congrats from Brazil!
Hi, Leland. I have always admired your playing. I've always loved GENESIS, Phil and your contribution. I met Phil on Maui in about '81. Your stage presence is the definition of cool! Keep on truckin'!
Mr. Sklar I'm so happy that you are sharing all of this with us. A little bit of light amidst all the dark right now. Thanks!
“Great!…Great Sandwich!” Love this track. Brilliant music video. Karaoked this one night at Dino’s. DJ first thought I had requested “ Rikki Don't Lose That Number” until I had to correct him. LOL
Yes Brother!!! Love your spirit and message. Good man. Keep well brother...
Mr. Sklar: Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and musical insights with us. I work in a very different field of music, but I have always been a great admirer of your artistry. I also appreciate your spirit of community and sharing with us duriing this crazy time. I enjoy following you here and on your Facebook page.
Thank you again for doing these videos. You're making our days better with your music and stories. Stay safe.
Just superb 😁thanks for keeping our spirits up with your brilliant bass playing 🙏
Watching this makes me miss playing. inspired to take it back up now. Beautiful playing Mr Sklar
I love you dearly as a person first and as a musician who lets your personality impact your music. Your sweet vibe is unmistakable. You are like Ringo. I know who is in the mix.Thank you for you.
LOVE your small stories, your mindset and the wonderful bass equilibrist you are 🙏🏻...stay safe Leland !
What a treat! I got to see you with Phil back in the late eighties. What a show! Still have flash backs. All you you need is a fan to blow your hair around and make the effect total. Love it! Thank you for posting!
That machine sounds amazing! It's so good to see and hear you hanging and banging . It's going to be okay someday. Your video showing your equipment and theirstories made my day that day. Continue cranking, and remaining safe as you can,so we can see and hear more of your truly great stories and music. Let's go check on the neighbors. See yo tomorrow.
Perfect!
I’m singing along
“RILEY don’t lose my number”
for my kid! 😅
Ohhhhh mannnn ... can’t get enough of this... im almost crying here man.. (happy tears) ... leland... by doing this videos and little stories you’re making a lot of people VERY happy (obviously including myself).... thank you!!! Much respect and appreciation!!!🤘🏻😎
Thank you for this Leland. Back in '92 I used to play this on constant repeat, close my eyes, sit behind my drum kit and imagine myself playing drums with you and Phil on the Seriously, Live! tour.
Lee Sklar, another one of my favorites bassists. So technically sound, so steady, great personality.! I aspire to be good with my bass one day!
Love that T-shirt!!
And great story of Phil!!
Dude.... That was so cool and awesome... Great vibe.. The tune is fantastic and the playing is stellar but dude, your vibe/energy freakin rocks and the positive thing is worth more than gold. Thanks man!
Playing this tune is why you get the big bucks ! Thank U !
Leland you're a true legend, so much respect for your work. Inspired me early on when you worked with Linda Ronstat.cheers from Australia
It’s incredible! 3 simple requests: wear a mask, wash your hands, social distance. I’m in India. Yesterday, I got “My mask keeps falling off”, “I’m not sick, I don’t need one”, “oh, I forgot to put it on”.
You are a legend. As a TV music editor, I had the honor of hearing you in some sessions in the early 80’s. It’s a real pleasure to hear you in this video.
Thanks, keep safe.
Thanks Lee. You are the BEST person I've EVER seen here on CZcams. You are a GREAT musician. A cool show you've put together here, and thanks for the quote I will use from now on. The one about people's brain function. So well stated, Thanks again :)
Peace from Canada. Thank you for bringing so much light into this dark time. Stay safe and healthy... we appreciate your company. ❤️🙏🏻
It's been an honor to meet you on Judith's UK tours. Thank you for the music and stay safe and well Sir!

For the basic groove, this proves that sometimes LESS is MORE! I love the simplicity and openness of the verse groove.
So glad I found your channel, and subscribed to it. I've known your name, face (and beard), and playing style for many many years. Mostly with Phil. It's nice to get to see you in a relaxed and personal setting. Love the stories, please keep putting these out.
Thank U.🥰❣️🦋🌈☺️❣️🥰
What a blast. 🎉🎉🎉
8:44 - Bam-Bam-Bam! That short break ... with lip sync. I love it, Lee 💖
Here via Rick Beato...good to get to know you and your craft!
I still remember the first time ever I wore a pair of headphones as a kid. At night, my sister hands me these 50mm huge honkin circa 70 headphones. She was listening to Phil’s ‘No Jacket Required’ on cassette. The experience blew me away, and it was one of the most profound memories and feelings that led me to become hooked on music; the greatest love of my life. Kudos to Phil, the band, and Leland for playing such a big role in that, and again, for bringing back the nostalgia through this replay
What a great guy! Thanks for all the great music over the years 😁🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Man, haven't heard that song in forever. Way cool.
Hi Leland, that was your best performance so far! Not that every day is a beauty contest but I just felt you nailed this tune perfectly in this format. Please keep it up. You are such an inspiring and life wise person. Jeez I would resist if I were in your place ..... Joakim, a Swede currently in Kenya .... also a drummer. PS. A Collins fave of mine is 'It don't matter to me'
You nailed it !!! wow ! what a great GROOVE !!! Love every second of it !!! Thanks
I myself have been playing for a long time. And this is great. Every note spot on, perfect timing and less is more. It's so refreshing to hear this old fashioned craftsmenship agains all the fancy stuff and note-diarhrea I come across on youtube. Great you still do this, mr Sklar.
ladies and gentlemen, this is what you call CLASS!!!
Miss making music with you in the room Lee! thanks for Acapela we can still have some fun...love you.
Thanks you so much for doing this! I've admired your playing for .... decades. Pure joy virtually hanging with you and just what I needed right about now.
Hey Leland, I’m glad you took a day for yourself. As always awesome performance. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Take good care of yourself and your family. 👍🏻🙏🏻 BE SAFE.
Such a badass groove . Not so “busy verse part” then full on blast ...
The legendary Leland Sklar in action! Amazing!
My dearest Mr sklar it is amazing how good your chops are any ideas you come with for your parts are yet you don't use those Mega chops and every song the sign of a true genius I think you have taught me that and I appreciate it so much. I want you to know I'm so glad that you give your social commentary all about people not wearing masks and Taking Chances that they should not I have had the virus I was lucky I was not that sick I don't wear the mask for myself eyewear for everyone around me the keep them safe from the virus and safe from Fear knowing that people actually give a crap about each other. Anyway thank you again for making my day I look forward do your videos everyday you're the best
I love these videos, it is wonderful that you are sharing your insights to working with PC & others. Being able to watch you play a whole song is fantastic! Stay safe & thanks again. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
12:39 "I apologize for some sloppiness" ??? Let me be as sloppy as you on my best day!!!! cheers Lee, you are da man !
I see what you mean, but you can also hear that the timing is off here and there. Which i kind of love to be honest, mr. Sklar is also just a human :)
Would love to see The Times are a Changing. You really brought that tune alive.
Billy is one of my favorite solo-Phil tunes! Thanks for this!!💜
Another one of my favorite songs!!! You rock boss! Thank you
The positive constant every day. I really appreciate you sharing your musicality and your thoughts!
One hell of a Bass player!!!
Thank you for doing all that you are doing. I saw the not dead yet tour in feb in Melbourne, AUS. listening to you going through the list of the songs that was performed in the show, it’s like being in that concert all over again and what a concert that was Wow. Amazing.
Keep rocking. God bless.
It's a pleasure to listen all the notes, all the accents, all the groove in this great song, thanks a lot!
You remind me of a wizard with passion. Hopefully that doesn't piss you off. 😁😎👍🇺🇸
That old western town was called ‘old Sydney town’ I used to go there as a kid... it was like a theme park set it 1800s Sydney... was very cool.
A very terrific line; the right amount of notes at the right time. Thank you for sharing these; you inspire me to pick up my bass and play. :)
A joy to watch and listen to. Thanks, Leland :)
One more request. That's all Genesis. Thank you sir.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels that my playing tightens up when I’m beside the drummer. I play upright (jazz and bluegrass), and I find I play tighter (still, not as tight as you keep it) with the drummer right beside me, as opposed to playing with a recording. Very cool to see what you do in some of these parts. Take care, stay safe!
I've always found my best spot is to the drummers left (if their snare is on the left) so that we can make eye contact
Tom Robinson Same here!
Hi Leland!
I grew up with your music, thanks for giving a little of your soul and of course for making these videos, it's great to see you playing music.
Greetings from Chile!
Sir Sklar! You're a marvel, still cranking it out with such aplomb and generosity. Bless you! ♡ MU
