- We had the honor of touring through Gifford with the Arboretum Curator, Professor Ken Feeley ~ He was a wealth of knowledge and so, we thought we would share some of the incredible wonders we learned about these diverse and amazing trees in this collection!

Fun! That wasp story was crazy. Thanks for sharing this place. 😃
Thank you Jack for the most interesting and education video. As I go through a box of fig bars, I will think of the sacrifices the fig-wasps made.
This is Awesome!!! Thank you!!
Thanks so much for the tour of some fascinating trees; interesting information. I cracked up when you described the fig tree pollination and the queen wasp. If you ever decided to be a stand-up comedian, you could take that fig tree explanation of pollination on the road. 😉 😅
Loved this Jack! Now tour Dr Blocks Tropical Backyard for another video!
Hi Jack .. I'm behind but do pull through. You are so fascinated by the figs and wasps, and rightfully so ☺️ Nature is So amazing! Everything has a purpose 🙌
Thank you for sharing! ❤🌎
FASCINATING!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you this was a phenominal education video!! 🌴🌳🌺
This was fascinating and loved the mention at the end about environmental acclimation rates being much slower than what we, as the stewards of the environment, are throwing at them. Kudos to U of M for having this lovely space. 🌴🌳🌲🌳🌴💚
Great video! Thank you for including the stories. So fun
Hi Jack, the Lignum Vitae is Jamaica's National Flower
What a fun tour! Thanks Jack!
Thank so much for the tour!
Jamaica, my homeland
Thank you Jack for informing us how fig trees survived in the wild. Then,i bet, predators got there before humans. Rare figs I'd say😂😂💝
Love aboretums - a great place to see what grows well in your area and learn. The fif and wasp atory has me captivated. I like to eat figs and I guess I like to eat fig wasps too.
...the fig wasp life cycle is truly an enigma, isn't it?! I also found interesting the mahogany tree. I have several pieces of furniture that I have inherited from when this was the fine wood of choice (cherry, too) in the 1950s/60s. 🌳👩🏼🌾💚 =^..^=
Thank you Jack! Going to Florida in May and plan to visit Gifford Arboretum!
Thank you I sadly told you I can't identify with Naples as a Michigander and you shared you were planning much more in many venues You delivered!!! This was so interesting--taught me a lesson to also open myself to other zones and their history
The Lignum vitae tree is indigenous to the Caribbean. It is the national tree In Bahamas and the national flower of Jamaica 🇯🇲. They use the wood to make furniture as I remember growing up in Jamaica.
Thanks Jack for this great info🌴🌿
Nice video, thank you.
That was really interesting. Now I know why I never liked figs! Some amazing and beautiful trees there. Thanks for making this video :-)
makes me not want to eat any figs. loved all the information you shared from this garden. Thank you!
I have never eaten a fig and now I'm quite certain I never will. LOL Fascinating learning about all these trees. I could listen to you teach all day! Your boys are so fortunate to have you as their father.
Fascinating information, thank you!
Thank you!! Very interesting and informative 😊😊
10:00 ok, here I stop the video to digest the information 😳 my family is waking up soon, and now I have smth interesting to tell them at breakfast 😆
The story of the fig has made me not want to ever eat another one.
there's a whole key with those trees on it - and could you go to James Deerings house and garden, please😀
That fig story was definitely strange but so fascinating.
Is that just certain fig species or all figs? I got to research this! My grandmother lived in south east Georgia, had figs trees and made the best fig jam ever, with fresh out of the oven, homemade bread! That’s what I’m talking’ about!
Not every species…. But many of them~
dont think I have ever had a fig...thank goodness 😂
Just a correction…..not ALL fig trees need wasps for pollination. As an example, Brown Turkey fig trees are one very common fig tree which are self pollinating….no wasps needed or other tree necessary for pollination.
True…
Thanks for sharing! I want to go to there 💚
Yeah...no more Fig Newtons for me, thanks.🤨
🙋🏻♀️MAYANS in SOUTH AMERICA?????!!!!!
I’m not a scholar but even I know that’s NOT CORRECT!
Maybe INCAS🤔😉🤔
Both had a similar belief about that tree- , but yes, Incas further south~!
