Here in West Virginia the wild roses have had this disease for at least 15 years it is spreading rapidly and starting to move into more of the cultivated garden areas. Sadly many people don't or woun't deal with it .
This is exactly what my Mr. Lincoln's have, so sad, will have to dig it out, along with my climbing Eden that looks like is getting it too. Thank you so much P. Allen Smith for making this great and informative video.

My double knockouts are less than a year old and doing so well!……They now have the virus. I’m extremely angry. I don’t want to spend good money on 16 new double knockouts only to experience this again.

Thank you P. Allen for using your sadness toward good. I am sorry you lost your old friend White Dawn. I lost an old friend Bibi Maisoon to RRD a few years ago. It is an ugly disease. There needs to be more publicity about RRD to prevent it's spread and you are helping to provide it. Again thank you for dispensing agricultural and horticultural knowledge in a technical world.
So true, more people need to know so we can save more roses! This sounds like COVID-19 for roses!!
I started seeing this virus in July 2020 in Lt. Rock. I’ve been learning more and today recognized it at all 3 stops I made. Please share this info with your yard guys too. It can spread from the leaf blower.

I'm in Philadelphia thanks for the information. I had it last year but I didn't research on it I just pulled it up but then I notice this year when the roses started blooming it started on its own like a rose so thank you again
Thank you for this very informative segment on the Rose Rosette virus! I had no knowledge of this virus. I am somewhat new to being a homeowner, and all the hard work involved with keeping a yard and garden looking healthy. There are some rose bushes on the property that looked amazing when we got the property. 🌹They have been growing a little differently than I remember. I hope it's not this!!!😓 I will take a closer look to make sure!🌹🔍👀 I'm also a big fan of you shows on TV! God bless you and yours!

I use Neem oil on mine, but I found a recipe online with the baking soda, etc. you mentioned. I'm going to give that a try as well.

Thank you! I found a tiny rose when I moved into this house 3 years ago, moved it, and I just saw this on the rose. I’m faced with the task of taking it out now. I’m not too attached to it, but it’s grown from a stem to a rose bush with pretty flowers. There will be an empty spot in my garden. 🥲 I appreciate you telling us what to do with this.
It’s also had a weird stem coming from the side that is shooting out quickly by itself. It’s been a strange rose bush! 🌹
Thank you for the useful information. I am in Russia and very fond of roses. I saw the problem last summer but found out how bad the problem is only recently. I could not get info in due time and tried to treat my roses. Three of them seemed quite healthy at the end of the season and the rest affected will be dug out in a couple of weeks (ground is still frozen). As you say, we should look at the positive side and I've already bought a bunch of young plants

Would it help if you sprayed the rose bush with some kind of spray to help it from spreading any further while you are taking the bush out dose it matter

Wonderful video full of good information, I just discovered one of my knock roses bunch have it, I will put it out, is only in one branch but I don’t want to get the risk to infected my other roses, so maybe I will plant other bush next year, but my question is , the Rose Rosette disease only is for roses ? Can I plant diferente plant/bush? Thank and happy gardening 😊
sympathy to you! I am having to dig out two of my favorite Drift Roses, which have the disease. It makes me so sad. They were doing so well and were just covered with blooms. I’ve read that you have to clean the shovel and pruning shears with bleach after using in such an area. I’m wondering if spraying and mixing in a miticide in the soil will help prevent it from recurring.

Thank you so much Alan for explaining this disease. I am a new rose grower. I planted a rose garden with 20 roses in my backyard last Spring. One of the landscape roses now I realized it got the RRD. The symptoms were exactly the same as you described in video. I cut down the stems to the bottom last fall. Now after watching your video I will dig it out completely and get rid of it. But now I worry about my other 19 roses planted next to it or near it. What prevention I can do with these roses? I just pruned off 1/3 of the length a few days ago. Please let me know. Thanks!!

very cold in the winter
here in Kentucky, All of my mothers rose bushes have it, 7 of them, I destroyed 2 already, will have to dig up the rest as soon as I get the chance to get over there. Everything I hear is you can't plant roses in that spot for years afterward unless you want it again.
On another rose grower’s site, Fraser Valley Rose Farm (Canada), he said the “research says”, you can plant in the same spot within a few months. I’m not sure I’d do it for an entire season but I guess, if you treat the area thoroughly, it would be safe enough. But the entire root must be removed. SAD DISEASE!

I also went through this with my red double knockout roses. First I failed to understand why this happening with rust leaves n chewed up roses. I couldn't find the info. Finally I went to some university web site for horticulture as that was the only place where it described about the rose rosette disease. I was sad as had knockout roses everywhere due to flowering in bunches. Si killed everything. But only one rose I trimmed to the rock bottom with few good stems. But the new shoot were bad n cut it n sprayed neem oil again. In fall I gave a full trim n it has recovered with no rosette problem n it's flowering.

I'm sorry about the Rose :-( I too had it and yes it was a knockout. I cut it down much to the anger of my yearly Catbird visitors who use it for their nests. It's ok though because they moved on to the Barberry. I have watched the other roses closely but think I got lucky because the others are in the backyard far away from the sick one. I use Neem oil. I just discovered rose rosette disease on my knock-outs! These are in my front yard. Thankfully it hasn't made it way to my backyard hybrid teas. So sad🥀🙏
I have 100 roses and have 10 beautiful roses that are infected. I have pruned the rosettes and they have come back. I am sad to lose my Rose. If there are healthy stems can I cut and propagate the healthy parts? Some of my roses are very expensive and rare.
I would really be grateful if you can shed light on a problem of a very large bush I have- with heads of roses that come out with a diseased centre that is like a muitplication of buds and green miniature fronds- all embedded in the centre of the rose- it appears like a cancer of the 'rose within a rose' then multiplied so one flower has multi- buds at centre .?? I don't know if it is this rosette problem, but it really looks terrible and I feel sad everytime I see them. It is such a big bush and colours normally sunrise - yellow- reds in colouration. The outside petals look normal, but centre is embedded with illness.Any clues as to what this is?
How do you confirm this? I am scared but don’t want to over react.

I just purchased several roses this spring and I have 2 yellow roses that have this kind of disease I guess. So I need to throw away this two roses because I don’t want them to spread to my other roses. Thank you for this video. I purchased one tree roses but it is not growing good it has mildew on it. Do I have to throw this away too? I sprayed with mildew spray. I hope it get rid of it eventually and will grow back healthy next year.
You should be able to treat the powdery mildew. Here is a home remedy I've used before.

Here in MO ALL MY ROSES and my daughters had it and had to destroy 30 rose bushes. So SAD . GOOD LUCK. HOPE THE REST WONT GET IT.

I just lost a drift rose to Rose Resette disease. It was part of a hedge and I fear it has spread to others in the hedge
Okey my roses have developed curl leafs and double buds comes out look strange and distorted so i think they have this disease.
Its a healthy roses before a friend gave me few weeks ago. First they have black dots all over down the leafs and the leaves most of them falls off and then i cut them down. As they grow out new branches these rosette appears so sad sad for me as i can't cut them down anymore.
I dunno what to do anymore, i just leave them like this as i see some of the leaves start to straighten up. But something is not pop out right in this new growth they are so distorted and them leaves edge look burns off too. I am so sad as its been a nice healthy rose when my friend gave me now it's in this condition i am sad i told myself i should not have took the rose from that place. But who knows the trouble it is going to witnessed!!.

I guess, those gloves & perhaps clothing worn when removing the plant, must be burned too or at least washed separately & thoroughly.
I’d very likely use a fairly strong BLEACH solution, like 1 part Bleach to 3 - 4 parts water. the I’d hope rose growers will find a suitable anti-viral. With all the new investigation on viruses, maybe viral treatment will extend to plant virus too. Thanks for the info.
Oh no I have about 2 hundred roses and I have seen this I just thought it was a good thing so I have to get rid of a lot of my babies 😭

It would be better if you cut the rose from the bottom of that rose. The next year that rose can grow without any problem.
