JetLagWarriors is a Canadian couple - Steve and Ivana. After travelling here and there for a few years, mostly during Canadian winter, we fully caught the travel bug and decided to travel INDEFINITELY! Subscribe to keep up with our journey. We will be budget travelling- hostels and air BnB's and street food and the whole bit. Thanks!
Sorry everyone, our sound cut off at 14:23 - 15:01. Ivana was saying how she was surprised by Iași because she thought it would be in the middle of nowhere. But in fact, it’s a very lively city with tons of happening around. Ivana loved the vibes of Iași.❤️🇹🇩
my city where I spent 5 years of university
14:24 - 15:08 - the sound stoped to work, would be nice some text adding to it+ it could be really cool to leave romanians to add translation text to the video in Romanian
I think you just open a new bully path ;))
Lași = cowards => So the confusion was hilarious for those who don't live in Iași. Don't worry we are mock just people which are full of themself/ arrogance like Cluj-Napoca/Bucharest
Indeed, the vibe of The City is unique. The big amount of universities makes the city a center of youth between september and june each year. In july and august the city is so quite. I am glad you visit my city, from your first video în România i wondered if you ll visit Iași. I hope you ll also visit the catholic cathedral and the bothanical garden wich is in Copou, a really nice Street for sunset walks. Take care of you and can t wait for your next video. 🥰
@@ana-marialungu9076 I love your city and Saint Parascheva!
Is a very cultural and beautiful town. Is the capital of culture in that country.
I'm from Sweden🇸🇪 and i visit iaşi last year it's a student city Romania people coming from all over the country to study in this Beautiful town💙💛❤
@montiswd1620 - In Iași City there is also a famous Electronics Faculty where Bill Gates uses to get the first 6 graduates each year. Actually, the 3rd language spoken at Microsoft Seattle is...Romanian, after English and Hindi.
Iași is not a town since it has over 360,000 inhabitants which makes it 1/3 of Stockholm population or if in Sweden it would be the 3rd city after the capital and Göteborg.
Romania is a hidden gem!
what a beautiful building this Palace of Culture in Iasi is
Definitely worth to pay a visit, Chris.
you should see it at night. WoW!
yes , is the most beautifull building of Romania ever !

Iași is finally getting the respect it deserves. Great city. Is it the 2nd biggest city in Romania.
Can't believe you guys are visiting my hometown of Iaşi! So many people skip it when visiting Romania. Enjoy your stay!
Foarte frumos Iașiul! Capitala Moldovei, cu o însemnătate istorică și care a dat mari valori care au marcat istoria României!
Salutări de la București!
It's so funny hearing you trying to pronounce the Romanian words, you guys are doing a great job 👍
Fun fact: The Three Hierachs monastery initially, around 1600, was covered in gold on the ouside. Until the invanders turcs set it in fire, so they can steal the molten metal.
wow!!
The former capital of Moldavia since 1564, is 82th safest city on earth, very rich history, Stefan Cel Mare (Stephen The Great) is a well known ruler and an iconic character for Moldavia and Romania, he was the cousin of Vlad The Impaler (Dracula), he was a great ruler, from 42 battles he only lost 5 of them, he ruled Moldavia for 47 years.
wow the cousin of Vlad? Interesting! Thanks for sharing
Always respect for the Stefan cel Mare (Stephen the Great and Holy)! The Ottoman Imperium knows why.
@@JetLagWarriors if you ask the pro russian from Rep. of Moldova…it(cannot call he or she a person like that) will Tell you that this are romanian imperialist propaganda:-)))))))))))
@xhaka xhaka he was talking about the Principality of Moldavia, not about Rep. Of Moldova
@@JetLagWarriors Many of the medieval rulers of the three romanian provinces (especially between Walachia and Moldova but at times also the ones in Transylvania) were actually related :)
Before crossing the border to the Republic of Moldova make sure to spend 1-2 days in Bucovina which is known for its painted churches.. Stephan The Great is buried at Putna and Voronet is a must see!
Also Maramureș region îs so authentic and beautiful. Mocănița in Vișeu de Sus is a must.
Voroneț is called the sixtine chapel of the East.
We will go to Republic of Moldova, and then come back since we have a Romanian rental car
any recommendations for Bucovina and Maramures?
@@JetLagWarriors Bucovina and Maramureș are beautiful, traditional and authentic and you will love the food. In Bucovina, make sure to check Dragomirna Monastery, its really special. Have fun.
Mulțumesc pentru că le-ai arătat oamenilor orașul meu ! ❤
So many beautiful historical buildings. Awesome. 👍
I am from Focsani and I am so happy that you were there for a while. Focsani is actually a city with a rich history, it is the city of union between Moldova and Walachia. You were just near the border, which is in the park you visited and it is marked with a milestone.
You guys must visit the Technical University’s Library in Iasi, it’s considered one of the most beautiful in the world
Street food festivals are very popular here, as you can tell. Glad you guys had a great time, Iași is one of the most beautiful city in Romania.
What a peaceful and elegant city Iaşı is!! The food festival there sounds such a fun event! Enjoy Steve and Ivana!
OMG, you spent quiet some time in Romania, i love that you visited Iasi even more
Finally someone visiting Iași! I think it's the most beautiful city in Romania! I hope you enjoyed your visit there!
Duuuude, when I started watching your Romania series, I was wondering if you're going to visit my hometown! Iasi is amazing, lots of stuff to do and visit!
Great first impressions of Iasi guys! Beautiful city with lots of history!
Spot on, Steve. Stephen is a name of pedigree!
I know the Romanian Church canonised Stephen the Great in the early 90s, so he's now Saint Stephen the Great or Stephen the Great and Holy.
The first king of Hungary is also a Saint Stephen (reigned from about 1000 AD). So you got a classy name right there, Steve.
If you are still in Iasi, don't miss the Gheorghe Asachi Library.
Beautiful city iasi cool❤❤❤❤❤
Moldova is one of the three big romanian regions that came toghether to form Romania. Unfortunatly the eastern half of Moldova was captured by the soviets, was heavily russified by bringing people from Siberia, propaganda etc and turned into a republic that is today the country of Moldova.
We lost the eastern half to the russians in 1812 when Napoleon gifted it to Tzar Alexander to suck up to him. Literally. He wanted to "have a friend" among the rulers or Europe, so he gave away half of Moldova, among other territories. Exactly like the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact 140 years later.
After selling Basarabia to the Russians, both napoleon and hilter got exactly what they deserved for playing God.
@xhaka xhaka you on drugs?
@@adrianadi3667 maybe he is a russophile who wants to spread false info.
Thanks xhaka for proving my point. You wrote exactly like people who were brainwashed by soviet propaganda and who believe in the "russian liberators" :))))) When in fact in Romania you can go visit so many historic and cultural sites of Moldova there were preserved like the monasteries and so many others even that beautiful Palace in the thumbnail above, while in Rep of Moldova the russians tried everything to remove the culture, settle people from Siberia and turn Moldova more into like the Omsk Oblast...

True...
5:06 LOVE THIS!!!!!
wow.... really beautiful buildings everywhere!!!!!
Hey Steve, just few historical facts. Romania was build in 1859 when Wallachia and Moldavia (two old Romanian countries) selected the same leader (Alexandru Ioan Cuza). The first name was United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia. In 1866, a new constitution was adopted and the name was changed in Romania. In the same year, Romania elected her first king, Carol the First (from the German family of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen). In 1877, after a war against Ottoman Empire, allied with Russia, Romania obtained his independence. Unfortunately, Russia showed his intentions when they choose to keep the eastern part of Moldova. Romania obtained in 1878 Dobruja. In 1918, at the end of the WWI, Romania obtained Transylvania and also the actual country of Moldova. In 1940, Romania lost the northern part of Transylvania to Hungary and the actual country of Moldova to USSR. After the WWII, Romania regain the Transylvanian regions but the eastern part of Moldova remain under USSR. Today that part in an independent country, Moldova. I will close this with a link to see who was Stephen the Great: czcams.com/video/CKFhubbLQd0/video.html. You will like it! Greetings guys!!
you are incorrect about the Russians taking Basarabia in 1877. It was stolen by the russian in 1812, when Napoleon "gifted" it, along with other teritories, to Tzar Alexander, in order to suck up to royalty. Napoleon was as bad at reading people, as he was good at war or administration.
holly smokes even the tourists know about the "death road"! :))
They found out from the comments
Iasi is a beautiful city. Wow, the street food looks delicious. ❤️
Woah, all the buildings are super beautiful...very impressive !!
There's quite a crowd at the street food festival, very lively. Oh gosh, the burgers are massive...yum yum yum 😋😋
Welcome to Iași!
If you want to be really awed, go to Voronet monastery in Bucovina, not far away, called the Sistine Chapel of the East and on Unesco list of monuments
Hi, guys! I'm living in Iași and I am so proud and happy about your video. Thanks a lot for visiting Iași, for your kind words and impressions! I hope you had a nice time in Romania! 😍
Guys, you brought me sweet memories of my home town, can*t wait to get back, for Christmas. :D

i love you guys , please take care of you , and enjoy the beauty and places of Romania 🇷🇴
Cannot vlog Romania, without Iași! Great job, subscribed 👍
Thanks!!
Great video and beautiful first impressions about Iasi. Haven t been visiting there for ages, living in Paris ..and having grown up and studied in Bucharest.
Nice to see my homecountry trough your eyes..Thank you and have a great time all over you visit 👍🖐
Hope you had a good time in my home town. Calling Timisoara a small town compared to Iași will make you a lot of friends here :) . Also Romanians call Republic of Moldova either Basarabia (from a Romanian prince called Basarab) or Moldova de peste Prut ( the Moldova over the river Prut/Pruth) . Moldavia and Moldovia are foreign names that are not necessarily wrong but they are foreign constructs sometimes used in movies and tv shows by lazy writers/researchers.
Thanks for the info😊
Love from Romania, beautiful city
Such beautiful buildings! I can't stop smiling when I watch your videos. Keep safe, healthy and happy.
great video, love the enthusiasm!
I've watched all your adventures in Romania and become a huge fan. It is your description, your respect for culture, eagerness of exploration, and definitely your chemistry as a couple. that attracted me to this channel.
Amazing, keep up the great job!
Wow, that comment meant a lot to us :). Thanks for this
It is lovely to see foreigners takeing interest in my place of birth. Very nice! Keep it going! You should have seen Copou garden, Botanical garden and Bojdeuca of Ion Creanga
can't believe you guys actually went to Iași. I'm very impressed. That's the true capital of Romania but the Romanian elite at the time, thought it was too close to our friends the russians, so they move it to Bucharest
🤣🤣🤣 our friends !!
Good one 👍
Iași is the greatest city of both Moldovas (the romanian region and the country). It was the capital of the entire Moldova before it was split in two. It's not bigger than Chișinău (the capital of the country Moldova) but it's a better city overall.
I've been lucky enough to stumble upon the very start of your romanian adventures and I've been checking on you guys every other day just to see what new stuff you've discovered. And now to see that you've been to the Heroes Mausoleum, which is in my hometown (Mărășești - good luck pronouncing that one) and that I've seen everyday throughout my childhood... Absolute shock, but the best kind of shock there is! Much love to you both and thank you for promoting our country in such a beautiful way!
Thanks Andrei!!
For your second visit:
- Copou & Sărărie neighbourhoods (full of greenery and old noble houses)
- House of Museums (nice instagramable spots inside)
- Botanical Garden
- Lăpușneanu street & Piața Unirii for the cafes/restaurants
Just outside Iași: MIclăușeni Palace
Later edit: totally forgot about the Gh. Asachi Library. Also, recommend you visit the rest of the Palace's museums.
Hi guys 👋🏻 wow I'm still in aww looking at those beautiful heritage buildings 😱 really stunning 👏🏻 the structural building , the designs and interiors are amazing. Wow this is amazing I Like it 🙂🙂🙂🙂. This is very nice 👍 Greetings from Varna in 🇧🇬❤🇹🇩
Hi, guys. Really enjoyed your video, made me very proud of my city. If you stay a little more days, you should definitely visit the Botanical Garden, the Copou Park (both in Iași) and the Sturza Castle, from Miclăușeni. You won’t be disappointed, I guarantee 😀
Keep exploring! You guys are the bee's knees! Imersing yourself in local culture with zest! Thank you for allowing us to travel with you!
The crossings form Moldova to Transylvania are beautiful, especially Bicaz Gorge (Cheile Bicazului)
I second the Bicaz Gorge.
Very beautiful! In Moldova, just try the "borsch" .. good for hangover too
@xhaka xhaka really? make some research - no "borș" ciorba in Moldova? Just go there and ask and you'll have a Moldavian borș de pui, pește, etc...and who's the northern neighbours of moldavians? the chinese?
Definitely try the borscht in Iași
I'm so happy you guys enjoyed Iași. It is a wonderful city indeed. Hopefully next time it will be a meeting with fans or something. Looking forward seeing you in person. 🤗
I have no idea how I ended up watching this video, but i loved it. You have so much appreciation and respect for foreign cultures, it's very relaxing to watch. Thanks for letting me see my city in someone else's eyes!
Thanks Vlad!
Im from Moldova state, if you decide to go in Moldova, pay attention on all the Russian signs, symbols, vehicles ( Moldova is still a old Soviet country ) but there are some cool church’s like Căpriana, Curchi, and then se have a cool and picturesque place called Orheiul Vechi ( a big hill church ⛪️ island surrounded by hills ) and Soroca Fortress at the Ukraine border which was used by Steven the great to fight with the enemies. There are some more attractions like Cricova or Milestii Mici ( those are underground wineries ). Good luck!
Thank you so much for this video guys ❤ hometown
Best time to visit Iași (or not) is mid October for Saint Parascheva celebrations. It gets so busy with all the religious pilgrims from around the country.
Love Iasi! Go visit the monasteries in Romania, you are not far! Go up north to Bucovina! Iasi is home to Romania's oldest university!
Today a major Orthodox holiday was celebrated, i.e. Ascension of the Holy Cross.
Enjoy the food, the city, the elegant people there. They are famous for their exceptional medical school.
You guys rock! Have a lovely time in Romania, you are welcome here! Love to you from Bucharest!

Oh..... You are still in Iași? I work at the National Theater of Iași, I can let you visit the building tomorrow. :)
I love how you guys just blend in most of the places and explore them like a local would. Watching the footage where you stand near the old chess players was funny 😄 I remembered how I looked at my grandpa playing in the park with the other retired guys and couldn’t play because I was too young.
My hometown is Bistrita. If you have the time to visit it there are a lot of impressive things to visit nearby like Colibita (mountains and lake), Bram Stoker Dracula’s Castle (Tihuta Pass), Rodnei Mountains, Schullerwald Park and other small but cozy interesting places.

there in this Palace from Iasi was celebrated the first union of romanians - Moldova and Wallachia (Wallachia is the name gave by foreigners ,we say actually - Tara Romaneasca) in 24 January , 1859...this Palace is huge historical for romanians ,obviously...
Transylvania was added in 1st December , 1918 , after WW1 , forming exactly the current display of Romania on map (like we see it in 2021)
Tara Romaneasca+Moldova+Transilvania+Dobrogea regions = Romania in 2021
Thanks for sharing this info👍
The official name was Wallachia Transalpina not Tara Romaneasca.Tara Romaneasca was an alternative name.
@@Bogdan-uu5oe Tara Romaneasca was a real local name.
In romanian there were no such terms as vlach or Wallachia.
Wallachia is an exonym, used only by foreigners.
@@Indimenticabil So why the Wallchian voievodes and princes signed as Woivoda/Princepes Walachei Transalpine? Țara Româneascã is used in Neacșu's letter, Neacșu was a merchant not a ruler.
@@Bogdan-uu5oe They signed like that in letters or documents related to foreigers (papacy, kings, or other european voivodes etc) because for foreigners / in foreign languages, that's how the name of romanians/romanian principalities was known.
For exemple, Stephen the Great in a letter to the Venetian senate speaks about "two Wallachia", the first being his (Moldova) and the other (original text "l’altra Valachia") being Tara Romaneasca.
9:52 the kids on the right rolling down that hill, lol
hahaha good eyes!!!
Until 2011 Iasi was the second largest city of Romania, considering 2011 statistics it is the fourth. If we look at 2021 infos, it is the second again. That is not really important. Reality is Timisoara, Iasi and Cluj-Napoca are mostly the same in population and represent the most 3 important cities of Romania after Bucharest. By size, Timisoara is bigger than Iasi in numbers but more than half of Iasi is on big hills and valleys while Timisoara is flat. Both are great cities.
good to know. Thanks for this!
Iasi have more people than timisoara .. the statistics didn't update online
@xhaka xhaka Yes, right ! Chisinau is the most bigest town after Bucuresti with 600000 people who live there !
There are a lot of places in Iasi to visit ... hope you at least make time to visit the botanical gardens and some actual monasteries arround Iasi like Hadambu ... oh also the catolic catedral is so nice inside and very cool architecture the big round building in the back of the first one you showed (Three Hierarchs).

So glad you visited Iași =)) You should return to check inside the Metropolitan Cathedral ( here is the biggest pilgrimage in Romania, on 14 October, so even visiting outside the services you'll find a lor of people. Here are the relicvs of Saint Parascheva or Saint Petka, in slavic languages.) Then you should visit Copou park ( this park is related to a lot of Romanian writers, the most important, Mihai Eminescu - the last romantic composer in Europe, as a fun fact he wrote the longest love poem in the world, Luceafărul which means The Morning Star), Botanical Garden is also very beautiful and is close to Copou park. Then try Frumoasa and Cetățuia Monastery. ( Frumoasa means Beautiful in Romanian❤ and I know at Cetățuia is also a small medieval museum). Btw, at the History Museum you saw a lot of ceramics and prehistoric objects from Cucuteni Culture which is responsible of the Tablets from Tărtăria, Transylvania (some experts say that the letters from these tablets represents an older writing system than Mesopotamian one, so the oldest in the world). Have fun!!❤❤

Ask around for grilled pastrami (pastramă) with mujdei, pickles and mămăligă.
Pleshkavitza is a Serbian recipe (it's name too), that's why you see pleshkavitza everywhere in Timișoara/ Banat and rarely in other parts of Romania. "Taverna Sârbului" means Serbian Tavern.
